The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the hotel itself is lovely and cosy with lots of space for quiet drinks and a chat, lovey garden out the back to. They didn't do evening meals when I stayed, everything you need is within minutes of the Whipper so you haven't to far to go for food. They do do a lovely breakfast though. I would definitely stay here again

Nothing really, the hotel is currently going through some minor renovation and upgrades which will help modernise it. Also be aware if your driving use the car park at the rear of the hotel and not on the market square outside as there is the local market stall on Wednesday and Saturdays.

Excellent location for Oakham and the nearby birdwatching centres. Staff were friendly and helpful; the refurbishment of the hotel has been carried out in a sympathetic and attractive fashion, and the whole place had a relaxed atmosphere. Food was very good (breakfast and dinner). Enclosed courtyard made a very attractive and comfortable sitting out area. Our room was comfortable with a good bed.

No gluten free bread available for breakfast on both mornings despite request when booking. The plumbing for the sink didn't work well, although in fairness we didn't bring this to the hotel's attention. There was some unavoidable noise because of the hotel's location - but remedied by using ear plugs.

Lovely old quirky hotel, decor of the bar area is fabulous and comfortable, staff very helpful and friendly, dog friendly which is great 😃 Lovely big room and big bed, central location to some lovely little shops, bars and park. Oh wow!!! Breakfast is just AMAZING, a must have

Our room was on the ground floor, now I know it's an old building, but we could hear all guests going upstairs to their rooms as the floor boards were very creeky, the room directly above us was exceptionaly creeky and the occupants were up every hour during the night to go toilet, we could hear everything even their snoring which kept us awake all night unfortunately. The room are very clean but could do with a bit of care and updating, the bathroom was very dated, the shower screen was very dirty underneath and a lot of repair cement was exposed, shower dial was ill fitting, and generally old and tired.

I originally booked the Whiper-In for myself & husband as a relaxing break after running a marathon & 50km race not too far away, i wasn't too sure what to expect after reading some of the reviews. From the moment we entered into the reception area we both felt so comfortable. The building is quirky & beautiful. The staff are incredibly helpful & friendly, especially Paul. We had breakfast which set us up for the day & was delicious.We gather that after many years of neglect the hotel is being brought back to it's former glory & due to it's age, parts creak & groan but i like to imagine that it's like a grand old lady being woken from a long slumber. We are looking forward to returning & seeing the results.

What a lovely hotel this is :) Upon our arrival we received a warm welcome from the young man at reception and throughout our stay the staff were friendly, helpful and polite. Our room was clean and cozy as was the whole hotel with a lovely open fire in the bar. We had breakfast twice over our 2 night stay and it was delicious on both occasions. Free car parking too, along with free wifi in the room so all in all a lovely weekend and we would definitely stay there again.

Only a small niggle really but the shower was the old mixer type over the bath so was a little tricky getting the temperature just right and the flow wasn't that great, but it did the job and we appreciated the fact that to upgrade the plumbing on this kind of building would be a major undertaking.

The layout. Back entrance had a feel of being in the south of France, large courtyard with outbuildings surrounding it. The inside was quaint and really inviting. The chef was off ill but the staff still had a reduced menu on offer and the sandwiches were superb. They even had two different 1/2 bottles of champagne to chose from. The full menu, which wasn’t available, looked exciting. I would def stay there again. Staff were really helpful and friendly. My room was ready well before the time.

Staff were fantastic! There was one member in particular whose name I did not catch. We arrived at the hotel early as we had a wedding and he was so accommodating! Got us in our rooms slightly earlier than he was meant to so we could get ready in comfort. Breakfast was lovely too!

I would not say I didn’t like anything! It was slightly annoying to find that the shower had to be held which was a slight inconvenience and every time my partner rolled over in bed it squeaked and woke me up! My friends in other rooms slept well however!

During my one night stay at the hotel I have to say it was the staff that made my stay the most enjoyable...extremely pleasant especially the young lad on the bar in the evening and the lady on reception and breakfast in the morning...they made you almost feel like family 🙂 Overall the room was clean, fresh and excellent value for its prime location. The bath was fantastic, plenty of hot water which defrosted me after a day of working outside in freezing temperatures. Breakfast was good. I had the vegetarian cooked option. Poached eggs were excellent and the lady on duty very attentive and provided me with plenty of coffee 'top ups'.

The only slight downside that stopped me giving 10 out of 10 was the fact my radiator wasn't working. However, the young gentleman on reception and bar that night offered me a portable heater before I realised there was one in my room. In hindsight I was probably warmer than if the radiator was working as it soon heated the room up.

All of the staff were so friendly especially Lamin and Paul. the new owners were also a pleasure to meet and chat to. We look forward to visiting again especially after completion of the ongoing investment. The food was amazing and the chef a really pleasure to chat to. We invited some family members over to Oakham and had book another venue for Saturday lunch but after a fabulous meal on Friday night changed our plans to eat here instead. So happy we did as the meals were all excellent.

The property is a bit tired but is in the process of being done up. We look forward to visiting when the work is completed

It was comfortable, clean and well served. The building has plenty of character. All staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfasts were excellent and service beyond the call of duty. E.g. when we asked for skimmed milk we were told that they didn’t use it but next morning it was on our table. That was totally on the initiative of the lady serving us. We only had one evening meal as the next day renovations had commenced. The food was excellent with a friendly caring chef and service.

The building is a little tired but it didn’t really distract from enjoying our stay. Of course we then learned that a full renovation,top to bottom, will take place and indeed had already commenced. All staff seemed excited about the venture and we hope it all goes well taking the current climate into account.
