The view across Rutland Water from the conservatory at breakfast is stunning, especially when the sun is shining. The bed was also very comfortable. The staff were also very friendly.
We were a party of six staying for 2 nights and spent a lot in the bar and on wine with dinner on both nights. It is a pity that the bar staff are not equipped with the correct glasses to serve drinks. When you are paying bar prices you expect drinks served in the correct glasses - not tumblers!

Check in was easy at this hotel that backs onto Rutland Water. Our first floor room looked out over the water with stunning views. We had one breakfast and two evening meals at the Hotel and the food was very good. At the rear of the hotel is a gate that leads straight onto the walkway that goes around the shore of Rutland Water. If you turn left out of this gate with the water on your right and walk around 150 yards you will find the start and finish of the local Park Run held every Saturday morning at 9am (roughly adjacent to the Church on the waters edge). What's not too like ?
The evenings meals when we stayed were from a Valentines Day Menu which was available for several days whilst we were there. Over two evenings we tried most things on this menu and we had no complaints. However on our second evening meal I asked for a particular bottle of red wine from the wine list and the waiter who I believe was Bulgarian brought it to the table already opened on a tray together with two glasses already poured and ready for drinking. In all my years of eating out this has never happened before and I sincerely hope it never happens again.

Huge room to loose one's stuff in! Nice and warm as electric fan heater was provided, no need to ask for central heating to be switched on. I did have to ask for the towel rail to be activated though. Superb location on shore of Rutland Water helped by fine hot weather. Had good day out shopping and visiting the nature reserve sites birdwatching.
Food in restaurant for evening meals was poorly presented and over cooked. Drinks selection was ordinary basic pub stuff. Breakfast was USUAL LARGE HOTEL CHAIN SERVE YOURSELF STUFF.

Room , View.
The bar area could be so much better with ambient lighting and less of a thorough fare...The staff have to carry meals through this! The log fire is lovely , but the seating arrangements are rubbish...it could be so much better and create an atmosphere . An historic building that has enthusiastic and loyal staff that could build on a lively and defuse customer base. We come here twice a year , as a fishing party....spend money... Just feel the hotel could build on its character and not rely completely on weddings and social events. There are another 8 months in the year! Couples, dogs , fishermen, work....dont forget us!

The staff were very accommodating, especially the cleaning staff. The room had a good view over the lake. And what a weird bidet/lavatory combination!
The room was very noisy particularly from people in the room above. The soundproofing is not good. Also, the breakfasts were variable in quality from one day to the next. The shower controls were very sensitive in getting a good temperature. We turned off the bidet/lavatory - it was just too much! The bed was very hard.

The location of the hotel was just perfect in a beautiful setting right next to Rutland water which was accessable from the hotel gardens. The restaurant was pleasant and friendly staff, we had a delicious meal in the evening for our wedding anniversary.
We found the staff at check in were quite abrupt and not very welcoming when we arrived, we asked where our evening meal would be later and she told us the wrong location, we had booked a meal in advance as it was a special occaision for us, we would have liked Cocktails to be available in the bar area but was told they did not do them.

We liked the room and the fact it was separate from the main hotel it felt very private and with a nice view of the lake and the bed was very big and comfortable we enjoyed the weekend very much
I think the room needs a little maintenance and there’s a leak from the balcony to the ceiling that needs fixing asap and it would be nice if it had a fridge and a microwave or something to cook ourselves a breakfast but that’s not a fault it’s just a personal preference that would have been a nice extra

Excellent location, good food. Really friendly accomodating staff. Lovely garden area and patio leading to the waterside. Minutes walk from Normanton church.
Only thing, we were in a bedroom in the eves which was a very small double. It had everything needed but felt claustrophobic and it was hard to relax comfortably in such a small space particularly as we had our dog with us. Luckily the weather was lovely so we were out and about. Also, no charging points for phones in the bedroom. Saying that the location trumped these points by far and we would not hesitate to return but would book a larger room!

The room was huge and had a great view of the garden and Rutland water. Just a quick walk through the grounds and you were on the path to walking around the water. We booked in overnight to allow for an afternoon tea I had booked the next day. The staff were amazing. We booked in on Friday night and the same member of staff was around chatting to us making the stay really pleasant. He went above and beyond.
The room although big felt a bit dated and I think the bathroom and the bath (mainly the bath and screen) was in need of a little makeover/TLC. The Juliet door windows were great but one side was hard to close once opened.

Honestly, couldn't praise this hotel enough. Its a gorgeous building in an unbelievably beautiful location. The room was clean, spacious, comfortable. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was lovely and well equipped with complimentary goodies and nice towels. The staff were lovely and so helpful. We ordered room service and couldn't believe the quality of the food it was superb. Huge, huge burgers and everything was delicious.
There really wasn't anything we didn't like. We were overwhelmed by how fantastic everything was.
