I've never been to such a beautifully decorated (inside) hostel before - lots of memorabilia all around, makes you feel like you're entering a lovely, different world! I've definitely enjoyed my stay - very good location, everything that you need for your comfortable stay as a solo backpacker is offered there and the hostel is run by really lovely and friendly people (thank you so much Karen, Nick & Team! :-)) It was a great pleasure and I'd love to return there for more hiking in that spectacular area as there is so much more to explore! :-)

After a hectic few weeks I visited Plymouth, originally planning to stay for 4 days, the beds were comfortable, bathrooms were really clean, breakfast was fab, and having free reign over the plentiful tea and coffee throughout the day really made the stay too, however all of the staff were the absolute highlight of my stay. From Brian's lovely warm welcome, to the chit chats on the (incredibly comfy) living room chairs, I actually extended my stay for another night (thank you Karen!). Thanks so much all for making my stay so memorable, I will be back :)

nothing.

This property is in the City center of Plymouth. All the major attractions are within walking distance. Karen and Brian are amazing! Every corner of this property is filled with historical relevance and there are hundreds of paintings, photos and incredible naval collections. The breakfast is free with a variety of options and it has a fully functional kitchen with most of the ingredients/utensils. Bonus: There's a dishwasher! Rooms are spacious and beds are in good condition along with a private bathroom for each dormitory within the dorm. They even provided a map of the city for exploring the city which was very kind. Highly recommend!

Nothing!

I lived in Plymouth for many years so knew that this is a great central location at the Millbay side of the city. The building has several landings and half-landings, each of which contains a treasure trove of interesting art, books, memorabilia & collectibles. The combined kitchen, dining and lounge area is very spacious & equipped with everything you need and more( inc. some free food), as well as an excellent choice for breakfast, which is generously available for a total of 4 hours. The staff are very helpful and friendly and security of the main entrance and dorms is excellent, with individual door keys. I had an injured wrist and every help was given to me during my stay. I met many interesting fellow travellers and will definitely book to stay here again. A real home from home.

The idea of it! A hostel run by a couple of mainly seniors (and a much younger man) that lived in the house too. The house itself is old but bearing history and a very personal note with steep and inclined stairs. Besides it's a wonderful museum of all things (military items, old posters, models of castles and ships), that were kept clean and without dust. The people running it keep it clean. You could have a little chat and our child even got an absolutely unexpected present from the landlady! The house is situated finely within Plymouth so you can explore England's ocean city without the need of a car. An affordable carpark is just around the corner. Breakfast consisting of cereals and toast is free and you can always have a cuppa in the common room (but no alcohol allowed). The kitchen is rather small but we could cook our dinner without any problems. For little money the hostel crew washes your laundry and folds it perfectly.

The only things to really mention would be the mattrasses (not very good) and the rather old shower (we did not mind the latter though) For some people the charm of the house, the age of the shower and the lovely community running may be "out of date* but for us it was just fine. If you are looking for a less personal and standardized place... Go elsewhere. But if you want to get to know a lovely and for us as foreigners very "British" place, come here! We will certainly do so again.

It's a basic breakfast but plenty of it. The common room is nice to sit in. The staff was very friendly (except from this one lady -I always had the impression I disturb her watching TV, but she was helpful as well). Rooms are old but very clean. I also liked the smell of the towels and linens. The location is very good, close to the city centre and a very short walk to Aldi. You can also order Nigerian food at the reception for less money and there is a bar opposite the hostel. Hostel is very cozy inside.

Beds are bunk beds but I did know that before. I had a room for myself that I booked which was brilliant. With 3 other persons in the room it would have been a bit too cozy in the room I guess.

The location is in an area which has seen better days, but it is very interesting and has a lot of history. Karen, James and Brian were all really helpful and genuinely interesting people, who have led extraordinary lives, who make visitors incredibly welcome. I was not sure what to expect, but was blown away by the friendly and generous welcome. Do not expect fancy. Do expect tea and coffee ad lib and interesting fellow guests. I would recommend highly!

The staff (especially Karen) were lovely, I wimped out of sharing a room so I upgraded to a family room which was lovely and has an en suite toilet and shower. It was very clean and had the use of the kitchen, free breakfast is a bonus! I'm actually trying to book again now but it's fully booked. I'll definitely be back. It's a backpackers place so remember you're not going to be staying in a 5 star hotel.

There wasn't anything I didn't like. The only thing was the location is a bit of a hike from where my son lives. But that's on me not checking the distance, however now I know where it is and I found some shortcuts so I'm sorted for my next stay😁

The hostel is homely with lovely pictures, and nice funiture and fittings. The ladies dorm was perfect and only 4 beds. The single room was lovely too with a beautiful writing desk and so clean. All the staff were so kind.. James, the manager was super helpful. Karen and Neil were also great. I felt at home. Free breakfast too! 😊

The location although it is only a short walk to all the attractions, the street itself was not the best. You could hear shouting on the streets late at night. But, saying that, I still felt safe in the hostel as the staff were there.

Outward appearance of the hostel didn't match the interior. Very quirky unusual building inside..really interesting. Was given a room on my own with ensuite shower and toilet. This was much appreciated as I am getting on in years. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bonus free breakfast in the morning with huge choice of cereals, breads and spreads. Right in the middle of Plymouth 5 minutes from the ferry port. Excellent value for money.
