Very nice, historic hotel. Loved all the old photos & plaques around the hallways. Very large room. Nice bathroom. Great shower. My teen daughter & I slept in the same bed. I was very uncomfortable (too hard) & she slept well. Good location. Plenty of parking while we were there, with more public parking available. Short walk to Barbican Harbour or town. Small shops just minutes away. Very friendly staff. Would stay here again.

Seemed that in the evening the corner is a bit of a youth meeting ground. It got quite loud most nights with cars racing and such. But I don't think the hotel can't do anything about that.

The location is very convenient close to the city centre and walking distance to the Plymouth Hoe. The room was a good size, the beds were comfortable and the room had a very good new large TV. Breakfasts were excellent with a good choice and freshly prepared full English breakfasts. The dining room had plenty of seating with some great historic ship paintings on the walls. The car park at the rear of the hotel always had spaces available and entry to the hotel from the car park is convenient via the first floor back entrance. The work taking place on the front of the building didn’t cause us any inconvenience. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Nice room, comfortable bed, tastefully refurbished to retain the character of this classic hotel. Staff lovely. Nice view from my window

This isn’t the hotel’s fault. It was a heatwave so I needed to sleep with all the windows open to get a lovely cool breeze. Sadly, the local Plymouth youths seem to use the road and traffic island outside the hotel as a race track for their loud motorbikes and cars with loud exhausts. Tyres screeching, exhausts howling, for quite a few hours. Seemed to stop at about 1am. I guess Plymouth can be a bit rowdy at times. Not the hotels fault. But meant I didn’t get much sleep as I had to get up at 5am to catch my train.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely old hotel. Great ambience. Front covered in scaffolding but it didn’t matter at all. Car parking so easy and cheap. You couldn’t get a better location in a city centre. All in all a superb three days. We will be back.

Difficult to fault. Tiny lift but you can’t improve that given the age of the lovely building. There was a lack of information about the history of the hotel and Plymouth in general. No information about what’s on in and around the city. Maybe they should have told us about the building works but it really didn’t matter

A beautiful Grade II listed Grand Hotel with incredible architecture and design (Covered in scaffolding at present- which I see as a good sign!) We have stayed here several times before and will stay again, I'm sure. Our room this time was large and comfortable with a great shower and a comfy bed. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfasts were lovely with plenty of choice. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient.

The room (317) could do with some drawers and the car park could do with a tidy. Apart from that, all very good.

I absolutely loved the old fashioned grandeur of the building. It is stunning and far more relaxing than modern, sterile hotels. The history of the building is really interesting too. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and had good local knowledge.

The bed was a little harder than I am used to but this is a personal preference rather than a fault. The bar could be better stocked. I normally like Sauvignon Blanc wine, which is quite a popular drink, but there was none available so I had to settle for Pinot Grigio. My friend asked for a whisky and ginger ale but was told there was no ginger ale so she had to have a gin and tonic instead.

After mentioning about the condition of room 507, I was put into room 205 by reception. The woman who dealt with the request was absolutely delightful and didn’t make me feel bad for complaining. She has great customer service skills and was approachable and quick to attend. The new room was absolutely lovely and I would stay there again.

At first, I was given room 507 which simply was not acceptable. The wall paper was all water damaged, the furniture was damaged and there was a bad smell to the room - I will remember this room number well! There was even scaffolding across the window, letting in no light. That is understandable if the room was acceptable but just added to a bad experience. Possibly the worst room I almost stayed in, and I visit a lot of hotels! Also; the parking was a total headache.

Room was great. Clean, spacious, comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bar meals and drinks and restaurant for breakfast were very good and staff great. Did a special meal for my six year old daughter that wasn't on the menu

No children's' menu in restaurant (or bar) but very helpful to accommodate from the bar menu Parking is limited and alternative is expensive (on a meter). Could do with better parking information before the visit as payment is easiest on an App Outside of the hotel is being renovated and this seems to have been going on for a long time (I was also there last year). It didn't affect the inside of the stay though

Once inside building, like stepping back in time which makes such a change from the Premier inn style, which I enjoy also. staff were professional and friendly. very accommodating and helpful. We were staying to attend a Muse concert, just one night, bar was open when we got back and sandwiches available, fantastic. Breakfast excellent. bedrooms ok, bed quite firm. shower excellent, best ever. Blinds quite difficult to get up in morning due to height of windows. no double glazing in my room, however I was able to open window and as warm night, air was lovely. no air conditioning.

approached hotel and scaffolding around building, render and brickwork coming away from building. in need of TLC, desperately., was quite off putting. Very small car park

Restaurant is excellent the chef is v good. The location to explore plymouth is great. The hotel has a long history and interesting anecdotes.

There is a lot of refurbishment going on. With scaffolding all over the building which we didn't expect. There are literally no grounds or gardens to this hotel.. even the car park is not theirs and you have to pay. They seem to be struggling with costs...the restaurant had ran out of marmalade at breakfast two days running and the bar was short on brandy. Neither a big deal but left a bad impression.
