The Green Man at Stanford was ideally situated for where we planned to visit on the Saturday. The double room (room 11) was very spacious and light. The bathroom was very clean and the size of a mini ballroom., with jacuzzi, shower and wash basin. We decided to have our evening meal in the really spacious dining room and we were not disappointed by the food and drinks served. We also had a light breakfast on Saturday morning. All staff were very helpful putting us at our ease. Would we return again? YES, if a future need arose.

Sadly the downside was on Saturday morning we couldn't have a bath or shower, as there was definitely NO HOT WATER. We had to make do with a strip wash in cold water. As there was only the chef on duty Saturday morning, there was no one available to make them aware of this. Whilst having breakfast, a telephone conversation we overheard between the chef and a possible client, it was mentioned it would be better phoning after 11a.m as no one was available to answer their query..

The staff could not have been more accommodating, the pub was very homely and inviting. The food for dinner was great - very good for the prices charged. I had the fish and chips, which was genuinely nice. My wife had the ham, egg and chips - which also was good. Both had really good presentation, and good flavour. In terms of accomodation the room was nice and warm, and the bed was comfortable. They had everything that we needed, and they really went the extra mile to help us out. It was a basic stay, but a really good one, well priced, and exactly what we needed for one night.

It's hard to find fault really. Perhaps the rooms were a little dated in terms of decor, but they fitted with the age/style of building, feeling rustic and homely. Either way they were very clean and decent.

The staff were absolutely wonderful and went above and beyond to make sure my stay was great. Check in was easy and my room was lovely. It was big enough for a wheelchair turning circle and had rails for using the toilet. The breakfast was excellent. My bed was really comfortable and the ceiling fan was lovely on a hot night. It was really quiet and had a very homely cute feel. There was a nice grassy outdoor area too. The staff spoke with me afterwards to discuss accesibilty which was fantastic - If you aren't sure about if the room will meet your access needs then I really reccomend contacting them as they are really respectful, helpful, friendly and will do their very best to accomodate. I was initially worried about being able to get my wheelchair over the gravel to get to my room however if you contect them the staff will tell you a gravel free way to park and get to your room. Overall it was such a relaxing and lovely stay with a really friendly and welcoming vibe. I would definately stay here again and recommend it to others.

There wasn't an accessible shower or bath in my room but after speaking with staff this is something they are looking to provide in the future.

I was surprised at how good the food was. I had a selection of options from the varied menu and it was obvious that the chef knows what he's doing. I'd recommend the Nduja scotch egg to start, perfectly cooked, with a soft boiled egg, then the watermelon salad was surprisingly good. Be careful with the desert menu, I ordered the cheese and didn't notice it was a sharing platter so had an enormous amount of cheese on it. The staff are really pleasant, the maitre'd is brilliant - funny and knowledgable - and the rest of the staff are very bright and cheerful. It is obvious that there are a lot of regular customers as the staff knew many of the people eating there, which is a good sign. The rooms are very spacious, if a little dated, but are clean, which is the main thing.

In room 10, the emergency exit LED light was incredibly bright - see the photo I attached! I had to put 2 towels over it before I could get to sleep! I don't know if this is the case with the other rooms, but if you stay here, it might be worthwhile investing in a sleep mask.

There was a small mix up over rooms when we arrived, these were quickly & efficiently sorted, all the staff involved were very friendly and apologetic. Rooms were clean & sufficient for our one night stay. We had our evening meal at the pub & were all very impressed with the food & service, though due to the lack of staff, paying for our meal took a while. Breakfast was buffet style, there was plenty of choice & it was delicious. Staff were very welcoming. Really enjoyed our stay, thank you.

The shower in room 14 - couldn't get it to heat up.

The breakfast were cooked to order, were piping hot & very tasty

We had booked a disabled twin bed room & had that confirmed by email both at time of booking and a week before our visit by my phone call to the Green Man reception but sadly we weren't given the disabled room on arrival and initially we were put into room 11 which had the wrong beds altogether which was a double instead twin beds. Then we were given room 12 instead which sufficed but the shower couldn't be accessed by my wife due to her mobility issues.

The staff were great and the evening meal was outstanding. The breakfast was really good but they could have done with a plate warmer. The rooms generally were clean and and well presented.

I booked a superior room but asked the hotel on the booking.com website for no stairs as my father is elderly. When we got there we find that the superior rooms are all upstairs with no lift! We didn't get what we paid for. The room on the ground floor we did get was a double not a twin. This was sorted out by the nice young lady from the hotel. I will be asking the hotel directly next time and not using Booking.com

The location was stunning , the staff were faultless , the food was really nice and the wine particularly the sav blanc New Zealand was really good

The only thing I would change is I would request the rooms my family had as they were much more to my taste regarding style and size - my brother had the honeymoon suite which was stunning , our room was still lovely and great value it’s just my personal preference
