Fabulous staff, got a really good feeling as soon as we walked through the door. Nice old (in a nice way) building, with great character. Nice room overlooking the narrow main street, lovely bed, great shower. The food was fab, although I wee bit expensive, although we did go all out with 5 course, including steaks, and desert wines!! :-) Lovely evening dinner, and good breakfast. Make sure you book a table in advance for your evening meal, as we had so we were OK, but lot of people got turned away as they were fully booked.

Unfortunately the bathroom radiator was on full blast and we could not switch it off so it was pretty hot in the night, as was a warm night anyway, but we reported it on our check out so hopefully this will have been fixed for the next customer.

Having booked two rooms to celebrate a birthday and Mothers Day, I struggled to speak to book a table in the restaurant. I was pointed to the Open Table app when trying to email the property. I was only able to book a mid-afternoon table which we were going to work round. When we got to the Hotel we were told we could check in and access our rooms a early. We were then offered a table for the evening which was fantastic so we had an afternoon brunch and lovely evening meal. We also enjoyed our full English breakfast on Sunday morning. :) Will be visiting again hopefully soon.

Limited parking on site but large public car park on a 100 yards away.

Clean hotel and friendly helpful staff Breakfast and dinner were good quality and on the upper end cost-wise (10% added for gratuity so be aware.

Unfortunately people are the unknown and in our experience it was the thoughtless dog-owners. We sat down to enjoy lunch and a family sat next to us. The smell was horrendous “sorry but the dogs have been rolling in sheep crap” really doesn’t excuse it.. it’s a restaurant. We ate elsewhere (very good food so it wasn’t disappointing) Through the night it was incredibly quiet and peaceful - except when the dog in the adjacent room barked at every sound. Again I blame owners but the experience was tainted by them.

location, character, staff

all good - would only suggest that Booking.com make it plain that, at this point in time at least, there is no kitchen service for evening meals on Mondays and Tuesdays. it’s clear on the Black Bull’s website, but we booked on Booking.com for Monday and Tuesday nights, on a non-refundable basis, and we’re unaware until after payment was made that we would not be able to eat in house on either night. I must stress that this is not the fault of the Black Bull, whose two ladies looked after us immensely well - our thanks to them both!

The room was comfortable and stylish.

We were walking the Dales High Way, but this wasn’t a walkers pub. The restaurant is fancy, and we didn’t realise the room rate didn’t include breakfast. There was a breakfast menu but it didn’t include an all-in price for breakfast so it was difficult to tell how much all the separate elements would add up to. Also breakfast started at 8.30 which is a bit late when you have a long day’s walking ahead.

The restaurant was fantastic - very interesting and inventive menu. Be warned they offer 'Nibbles' which are like normal starter portions and then 'starters' which are like small plates and then main and dessert! Plus the wine list was fantastic with some very unusual wines on offer - which the charming waiter knew all about. The staff were a delight. Young friendly, knowledgable and efficient The room though simple was exceptionally comfortable (lovely bedding and comfy bed). We had a double shower in our bathroom with full sized artisan shower gels and shampoo etc Excellent tea tray

Only thing missing for me was better lighting by the bed to read with and a magnifying makeup/shaving mirror in the bathroom. Obviously a theme here with us having older eyesight!

Great stay at the Black Bull. Welcoming and cosy in a sleepy little village. Bed was very comfy and room was nice and quiet. Do eat in the restaurant it is fabulous! Breakfast was good too with a good selection to choose from. Staff friendly and helpful.

Milk in the room is fresh and in canisters with no fridge so very quickly went off, we had to go and ask for more a couple of times. After a long walk a cup of tea is definitely needed so some UHT milk in the room would be a good back up!

The room was bigger than expected plus we had a balcony. This was great to enjoy the birdsong in the morning with a cup of tea. Also - good for the dog to have a sniff around. The shower was great. Breakfast was really good. We also loved the beer meadow with the pigs and chickens at the back. A great place to take the dog for a morning and midnight pee stop and sniff. I'm sure it is lovely to enjoy al fresco dinner and drinks too. The drive from the M6 to the pub was outstandingly beautiful. Wish we were staying longer than one night so that we can explore the place. We will be back.

Just to note that the restaurant isn't open on a Monday which was the night we stayed. We ate at a local pub around the corner instead.

The inn is a little hard to find along a narrow one way street and the turn in to the car car park is very tight and not for the faint hearted ( not much the hotel can do about that). The hotel has been refurbished to a very high standard and was much more than we expected. Good room at the front overlooking the street and very comfortable. Very pleasant and helpful staff. The restaurant was a foodies hotspot(make sure you book) with lots of choice produced to a high standard. Breakfast was excellent with again lots of choice. An amazing find in Sedburgh.

Dinner excellent, Breakfast fine, room lovely as normal. The pub spend sits money on the right things. The basic decor is pretty basic but thats fine; the important things like the bathrooms, the quality of the sheets, the atmosphere in the bar, the kindness of the staff, the quality of the beer and food - these are perfect.
