The hotel itself, the room, the location and the grounds were fantastic. An easy walk into town but a wonderfully quiet location right on the edge of Verulamium Park. It's a beautiful location, the street it's located on is beautiful (and quiet) too. Highly recommended for a relaxing break

Breakfast was good although a little limited in choice - for example there were only scambled eggs apparently available, there were no menus to order extras to the table which would have been nice. The quality of the food was good, I just would have preferred more choice (poached eggs, hash browns etc.) The shower stopped working for me during my shower on the morning we left; we were on the top floor, and I assume this was down to the fact that a number of people were trying to shower at the same time. A hotel's hot water supply should be able to cope with this though, as people typically shower around the same time.

Beautiful historic property backing onto the lake in Varalamium Park. Great location for walks into the lovely town center, around the lake and to the cathedral and Roman Museum. Lovely atrium-style Breakfast Room, with buffet items plus selection from hot menu, along with coffee and tea served to your table. Excellent breakfast! Staff very friendly and professional. Nice views of the lake. Lovely Lounge area with fireplace, as well as a cozy bar with friendly service.

Our initial room was smaller than expected but had a nice (albeit a bit obstructed) view of the lake. I was able to see the Honeymoon suite next door and much preferred that. Unfortunately it was booked, but we were able to upgrade to that room on our last night, and it was much more comfortable - 4-poster bed, doors to patio all across the back of the room, very large and well-appointed room. Wish we could booked that one to start with!

The room was air-conditioned well, which made our stay during the hottest week of the year super comfortable. Dinner, breakfast and bar service was exceptional! Plenty of on-site parking and the provision of two EV chargers a real bonus for us. The hotel sits in gorgeous surroundings and just a short walk into the centre of St. Albans. Would make an ideal base for visiting London as the town has very fast round-the-clock rail services into the city. A hidden gem of a hotel!

Not much really. There is no lift service but the hotel does offer to take your cases to your room if needed.

This hotel is hidden off the main road and when you drive into the car park you can see a beautiful setting with a river and seating all around so you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We were in the Tulip room which was in the loft. It was nicely decorated with tea and coffee facilities. the bathroom had been recently updated so was brand new. The beds were very comfortable as were the pillows.

I felt the breakfast let it down. You can have a continental and a cooked breakfast. I had the full English which was one sausage, some bacon, scrambled egg and a tomato. The tomato was cold, sausage was really spicy and the scrambled egg was very watery. The bread selection they had for toast was very good, juices, croissants, cereals yogurts and some fruit.

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful place. Our room was lovely, although it could probably do with a little tlc. The bathroom ceiling had some old water stains and the basin had a crack in it, but that didn't spoil our stay. The bed was heavenly, I could have stayed in bed all day!! Loved the heated floor in the bathroom as well. Loved how the bathroom was hidden behind the mirrored cupboard doors. Breakfast was very tasty with a good selection of food.

Nothing negative to say other than the slight bit of refurbishment needed in the bathroom.

The room was lovely - beautifully furnished and a great size. The facilities were very good. Breakfast was excellent - a great choice of food from the buffet and a very comprehensive choice of cooked options. The location of the hotel is a real bonus - 2 mins walk into the centre of town, but also 2 mins walk from the lovely park. The grounds were also delightful and parking was plentiful and very convenient. One of the best things about the hotel was its lovely, friendly staff.

The bar area was very small. It would have been nice to have some more chairs in there or more space for them. I imagine the conservatory area would be nice in the summer, but as we were there on a cold March weekend this wasn't open.

location was excelent, just a short walk into the main town and attractions. The staff were very friendly. we only ate breakfast as we had plans for the daytime meals - we all had different items of brekafast and all were delicious, cooked fresh, plenty of choice. shower was powerful which i loved. heating could be controlled in the room unlike other places i have stayed which was excellent. plenty of parking, lovely gardens

if im going to be picky then i suppose the lack of lift. but stairs were not too steep and staff offered assistance with suitcases, and to he honest a lift probably wouldnt be inkeeping with the style of the property anyway

We loved the hotel. The staff were a real asset to the hotel and certainly know their customer service. Their hospitality was impeccable. Special thanks to Adil, Petra Mia and other reception staff and restaurant and bar staff who all went the extra mile. We will be coming back again!

We liked everything. I know the hotel will be going thru a refurbishment shortly so looking forward to seeing the refreshed hotel.

We just loved the atmosphere in the hotel and friendliness of the staff. Everyone was so easy to talk with and they were so helpful and pleasant. Our room was perfect for us - a slightly quirky loft room, with sloping ceiling - we absoluetly loved it. We felt so welcome there and was a superb 2 nights away to simply relax. Very happy indeed.

We felt that there could perhaps have been a slightly bigger selection of continental breakfast options. The cooked breakfast was super and again the staff were spot on.

I love old buildings. This had the charm of an old building, but they kept it up. Plus A/C. Also my husband had a hamburger from their restaurant and said it was the best he had ever had. First we were concerned because it was pretty rare, but no it was perfect. Great Chef.

If there is any complaints it would be that this is not a place for people who have problems getting around.
