It's always a joy to return to the Falcon, and catch up with the ongoing soap opera. The same faces were there: Dan, Ollie, Danni, Hannah, Lorelei, Imogen, and Cameron. Dan seems to be pulling them together. I watched a team meeting in the bar, which they all seemed to enjoy. There were one or two nice touches: I noticed tall candles on the tables, which, now the evenings are drawing in.... Even those who left during all the unpleasantness seem to have forgiven them now, and I had a long chat with Kate and her polyglot boyfriend. But two unanswered questions remain: I cannot understand why I have a mental block about Hannah, and I never got to the bottom of Danni's bad hair day on Monday. Both of these issues bother me greatly, so I suppose I'll have to return soon, to make further enquiries. Paul

Not much.

I don't know how they put up with me: I've stayed here many times now, and just as I got over my mental block about Hannah, I've acquired one about Lorelei. Never mind. She'll be off to Exeter Uni quite soon, for her final year, and taking those delicious mannerisms with her. Everything's "amazing" or "perfect" with her, and I can't get enough of it. Anyway, she brought me my veggie full English this morning, but without my sausage, which arrived later, with apologies. So, inevitably, I spent several minutes pondering the hidden meaning behind my sausageless breakfast, and eventually concluded that there wasn't one. Or, at least, if there was, it's between the Dalai Lama and me, and I'm keeping it to myself. But I must be doing something right: they put me in Room 6 this time, which, in my opinion, is easily their best. It really is a very nice room.

Not much.

I have written more extensively on TripAdvisor, but I keep coming back to Painswick, which must say it all.

I think I've reached the conclusion now that Balfour have got the business model for the Falcon all wrong. They should go and take a look at the Oak. It's packed ... every night. More specifically, the Falcon is carpeted throughout, when you have walkers coming in with their muddy boots. The carpets are stained, and will always be so. Balfour need to understand that the Falcon is a country pub, and not an upmarket hotel, and then the locals will return. If Balfour don't know how to run a country pub, they will have to bite the bullet, and sell the Falcon.

We had a view looking out the front over St Mary’s church. It was stunning. The decor of our room was lovely as was the bar/restaurant. We had a fantastic evening meal there and staff were very attentive and friendly and offered to take our bags up to our room. Breakfast was full of flavour as well as a good quality local juices etc. Would love to stay again!

It was a very hot night and although they provided a fan, it could have done with air con but understand it’s not often we have weather like this but also would detract from the look of the bedroom (so not a negative review at all)!!

The atmosphere was noticeably more relaxed than before. I have no idea what effect my recent constructive criticism had on top management, but staff turnover seems to have stopped now, and people are much happier. Dan, the new General Manager, is settling in nicely, even if he frieked a bit last night: "I can't handle this. It's Princess this, and President that here tonight. And the place is full of spies. They're using false names, and paying in cash." And I got told off for using indelicate language in a recent article. Apparently I should not talk about willies being "sliced off." They are "surgically removed." Never mind. They put me in Room 11 this time, which is a lovely big room in the Coach House. I must be doing something right. I'll be back soon...

Nothing.

I arrived early, and already there were log fires blazing in the library and restaurant. They upgraded me to Room 11 in the Coach House, which is massive, and has exposed beams and rafters, as well as dado boarding all round, a beautiful Edwardian fireplace, a large walk-in shower, and a megacomfy bed. Lauren's new broom is having an effect, and I noticed the improvements to the menu, especially the veggie options. In previous reviews I have commented on the deafening silence in Painswick. But the Coach House really is something else. I spent much of yesterday sketching in my room, and being just blown away by the tranquility of the place.

Not much. Hence the high rating. But a couple of things really need sorting: 1. That front door closure still isn't fixed, so the menus fly everywhere whenever there's a gust of wind. 2. I really enjoy sitting in those winged armchairs by the bar, but sometimes the disinfectant smell from the gents' toilet is overpowering.

The room while adequate was nothing special and certainly not a £127.00 a night room without breakfast. If breakfast was added it would have pushed the cost to the £155.00 a night which would have overpriced. Staff were very friendly but service for the evening meal we booked for they seemed rushed off their feet without enough staff to cater for the amount of people in the pub. Food was good when it arrived. Overall, nice place, friendly staff, clean rooms, and good breakfast but not what I would call value for money.

Overpriced.

The location was wonderful, in a pretty Cotswold village with lovely countryside nearby. Our room was quiet, spacious with an enormous comfy bed and a large sofa and the bathroom was top notch. The choice at breakfast was amazing, we had a terrific dinner in the evening in the hotel restaurant and the waiting staff were exceptional on both occasions.

My only small niggle was the lack of a dressing table: there was a large mirror but the nearest plug socket was too far away to blow dry my hair in front of it.

Travelling on my own is sometimes a little dull, but the Falcon is a very friendly place to stay with nice staff, excellent food and a cosy feel. My room had a super comfy bed and a nice selection of pillows. The evening meal was superb, and mid-week this was a very relaxing place to spend an evening. Breakfast was included with my room and that was lovely too. I would definitely stay again.

The Falcon is in a lovely part of the country and, if I had to be ultra picky, my room didn't have a view (not that I asked for one), so I went for a walk around the village instead. I can't fault this place; I'm very impressed.

Conveniently situated in the middle of the village overlooking the churchyard. Private parking was a real bonus. We booked a suite so had a good size room with a huge and exceptionally comfortable bed. Bathroom had bath with rain shower over. Had a great night sleep!

The lock on the door seemed insecure and looked as if it had been forced. We went elsewhere to eat as were told there was a large Christmas group coming in so we’d have to eat early or late (though there was never any sign of it) Breakfast was poor quality - rock hard sourdough toast, no fresh fruit and under cooked eggs!!
