Location is great, close to center, just across the train station. Crew is kind and helpful. Hotel bar and restaurant is pleasant with a nice garden. Mattress is so comfortable. Rooms are spacious enough.
There is no fridge in the room. We asked for milk for our coffee/ tea, and ended up having a clumped milk. For 180 GBP, we expected to have better facilities. Pillows were uncomfortable. We had to fight throughout the night to keep them under our head. All in all, for the price we paid for a weekend, it was a bit under our expectations with the facilities provided.

Location for a family visit in Stroud. Clearly a lot of investment gone into renovating the building, even if much has ignored heritage and gone full tilt at contemporary, a LOT of scaffolding boards which I guess ticks sustainable box. Great breakfast, make up your own eggs benedict? Lovely.
UPDATED- Just seen other reviews making same suggestions going back months... worrying not addressed! More coffee in room. 2 pods for 2 people overnight? Bit mean. Maybe add coffee bags if not pods. No milk! Not even UHT. Pain to have to ask reception or bar for fresh... so no cup of tea first thing. No pillow cases on spare pillows in wardrobe, only two on bed. No iron in room, again having to ask reception? Smart TV... nothing worked or rather connect, couldn't even stream to it, just a shame as last thing at night would have been good to stick a movie on and wouldn't have wasted time trying to get it working! If aim is 'boutique hotel' then its the details and extras that really count. Front rooms overlooking station, woken around 5-6am by rubbish collection...

This was the 5th one night stay in a hotel on my current trip. Three of them have been great and two were pretty awful. The Stroud is certainly up there with the good ones. If I understand well from my friends in Stroud, it has recently been refurbished and that has been done with taste. I loved the bedroom and the bathroom (see photos) and both had some very nice touches. I especially liked the pale green night lights, the lighting behind the headboard of the very comfortable bed and the lovely mirror and clothes rack in the bedroom. Normally I prefer a closed clothes cupboard to an open rack but the one here, in wood, was a work of art. I also loved the minimalistic sign about towel changes (see photo) which effectively achieves its purpose without trying to make you feel guilty about environmental impacts. That's all not to say that a few improvements could be made, especially in the bathroom. For older people like myself, this would benefit from having hand grips whilst standing in the shower and for getting out of the bath. The bathroom mirror could be replaced by fitting a mirror in three parts with hinged wings to allow a view of the back of the head and, though the hand gel is of good quality I personally prefer a small tablet of soap for shaving purposes. Also the little hallway leading to rooms 15 (my room) and 16 could benefit from having automated lighting. The hotel bedrooms are on the first and second floor and there is no lift, so the hotel is not really suitable for persons of reduced mobility. I think though, that the stairway to the first floor would be wide enough to allow the installation of a stair lift. The staff are extremely welcoming and very helpful. Add the free parking area - though this has limited space allocated on a first come basis - and the proximity to the station and you have all the ingredients for an almost perfect stay in what is a charming town set in beautiful countryside.

Fabulous room, very clean, comfy bed. More characterful decor than most hotels. Calming vibe. And given I'd booked the cheapest room ('cosy') I was surprised to find out it was a very good size. Nice selection of herbal teas in the room - you don't get that in most places. Staff were very nice. Very central - right across from the station (but didn't hear any train noise).
Given it's Stroud, which is a pretty alternative place, I was a bit disappointed with the food options - all fine, but pretty mainstream, with no obviously healthy options. Breakfast was a bit limited. And they lose a few points for not having gluten free bread (although they did give me a GF bread roll - it wasn't the best though). Stroud is such a foodie place, there's no excuse for not having GF bread around - and you can get nice stuff there, not the normal plastic stuff.

Great location for the town centre, lots of pubs and restaurants within minutes of the hotel the bar in the hotel was lively and very friendly if a bit expensive. The bed was super comfy and never heard any noise from the train station opposite.
Could have put some water in the room and a few biscuits for the price we paid I would normally expect this. I did have to go down to reception for normal English breakfast tea bags as only has one all the rest were Earl Grey etc, I had to search for the TV remote as it was down under the bed. Parking was VERY VERY limited however it was reasonable to park in the train station car park.

Very modern, very fitting with the area around about. The staff were incredibly friendly and polite and helpful especialyl when i went to stay an extra night they got everything sorted. The hotel is situated right next to the train station which is handy if you travel by train, although the parking could be a bit hit-and-miss becuase you are at the mercy of the station sparking. Facilities and amenities were excellent in the rooms. Didn't sample the restauraunt but i did take a coffee and sit on the terrace one of the mornings which was nice.
My only criticism is it is a bit noisy at night. The rooms above the bar you could hear music until late, especially on the rooms that were above the terrace. It was okay becuase there was a 10pm cufrew but the corner room (first one i was in) you could hear the music quite late through the walls. Also you hear a lot of outside noise with the single-pane windows. But i'm not going to mark down becuase the rest of the hotel was great, i'm a fussy sleeper thats all!

Very welcoming & friendly staff and a location that could not be more convenient for the railway station (and was not noisy). The room was spacious, light & airy with good storage and an extremely comfortable bed. Fantastic bathroom and shower. There has clearly been a lot of thought put into the renovation and the attention to detail shows.
Breakfast was slightly disappointing in terms of choice and quality. Vegetarian options were fairly limited, if you don't want to eat ultra-processed meat substitutes (e.g. vegan sausages) and hash browns, which have limited nutritional value. But I know it may be what people want...I'd prefer the type of options they serve at Woodruffs cafe in town. Also, some of the fruit on offer was not ripe (rock hard kiwi fruit!) and there was no yogurt offered (where as the menu indicated that the Continental breakfast included yogurt).

The room was nicely decorated and very comfortable with a large (maybe king-sized) bed and a bathtub - it was perfect to unwind in the chilly autumn evenings. The location was also great, with the hotel being right next to the train station and only a 5 minute walk away from the town centre. The staff were very friendly and helpful!
The room was slightly cold, and the radiator didn't seem to be on any time I checked. However, I'm sure that this is only because I was travelling at the time when the first truly cold days are starting.

Very nice hotel. A little more expensive than I would have liked. Nice bedroom and bathroom. Good location right in the middle of Stroud and near the station. We were given an early check in, which was nice and could leave our bags there the following morning.
No parking space at the front of the hotel, so had to park in a local pay and display, which was only £3 but a 5 min walk in the pouring rain. Someone got into the hotel from the bar and spent time upstairs banging on the doors and the walls late a night. Was scary and very disturbing.

Great location by the train station and friendly staff who are very helpful. The newly renovated hotel is stylish and nicely presented with everything very clean. Handy to have a public bar/restaurant with access for the guests as well as the public. Good to have a kettle, etc, in the room and the bed was comfortable.
A few little issues. In the bathroom the wall mirror is fixed far too high to see into and so I think there needs to be a larger mirror that is fixed at the tiled shelf level, just above wash hand basin. Also some wall hooks would be useful. For me, as light affects my sleep at night, all the green LED ceiling lights illuminated the room too much to sleep well. The breakfast had limited buffet choices available and I suggest it would be better to be presented as a larger range of options in the self-serve buffet, just with the hot food menu served via orders, as it is very slow to have the drinks and most options all served by the waiter.
