Beautiful and exceptionally clean. Staff were superb and considering the property is a short stride from everything, it’s lovely and quiet with very peaceful grounds. Outdoor seating provided also to enjoy a coffee. There’s very little not to like as the place is outstanding.

Had to pay £12.50 to park whereas if booked direct with the hotel, parking was free. Breakfast is lovely but had to book a time slot. As we were there for leisure, was neither ready to wake up or eat at the time we had booked. It’s difficult to assess what time you will wake up or be hungry in advance.

The room was nice with good facilities and a good tea selection. We particularly enjoyed the air conditioning with the very hot weather. Beds are also very comfortable, and the bathroom was nice and roomy with a bath. The staff were also friendly and efficient. A bonus feature of the hotel was that it had a 24-hour bar, although we didn't get a chance to try this out. Location wise, the hotel is well located within walking distance of the city centre and other parts of the city, whislt being in a quiet location where we wernt disturbed by the noise from the city. The hotel itself is very pretty with lovely gardens.

The only minor issue was, the towl rail in the bathroom, which seemed to be permanently on, and we couldn't find a way to turn it down or off, as it made the bathroom a bit toasty. Also, the pipes seemed to be a bit noisy but not in a disruptive way and the floors do seem to carry the noise from upstairs so you can hear people on the floor above walking around, this is probably due to the age of the building, but no-one seem to be moving around at unsociable hours to this wasn't really a problem.

Lovely little touches like robes, coffee filter bags etc in the room made the experience 4 star. The location was perfect, quite side of town and easy to get to the centre. Breakfast was great all served by the staff, no buffet or waiting for toast etc..perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful as well. I have a hatred of soggy pillows so first night wasn't great but the notice said ask for different pillows so the second night I had a memory foam one provided which was perfect. Parking was also easy and reasonably priced.

The only thing we didn't like was the small window in our room which made it feel a bit cell like but as we weren't in it for long it didn't really matter.

the room was perfect for a family and had plenty of snacks and drinks and very clean, I simply cannot fault the room, there was a male staff member who was extremely helpful and bought our 2 daughters cookies and milk at bed time which I thought was a lovely touch.

the food in the restaurant was of a limited selection and fairly over priced for the quality and quanitiy. some of the staff were at times austere and not friendly at all, this was our first time staying at the hotel and we were given no imformation at all and the receptionist simply pointed out of the window where our room was, apparently there was a Terrys chocolate orange in the room, which we only found out upon check out, im not sure if it was hidden and it was something the children had to search for as again we were given no information when we checked in.

Staff were so friendly and helpful with pointing out where to visit in York... location was perfect too. We stayed in the Heritage Suite, found it hard to leave!!!! It was beautiful, very comfortable and just what we needed for a city break. Fluffy robes were so good!! We said we would come back again, very nice reception and bar area too.

I think maybe one half of a bagle with the smoked salmon and scramble eggs was small for breakfast.... should of been a whole bagel. Quality of taste was lovely though! My partners bacon on his breakfast was very fatty, he would of preferred if the kitchen noticed to of cut a bit off, and bacon a bit more crispy for the breakfast. Also he said no black pudding but would of been nice to offer something else to replace it with...and extra egg or sausage.

The setting is beautiful and the gardens are stunning. The main building is full of history and very interesting. The receptionist staff were very welcoming and helpful. on-site parking and EV charging available. It’s central location is great and key site within walking distance.

The restaurant service was slow and orders muddled. Staff seemed harassed and in some cases, surly. The food itself was mainly lovely but, there were signs of plates of food having been standing for a while before bringing to the table so it wasn’t particularly hot. The restaurant wasn’t busy so really no excuse. We felt that our room was over-priced with a very small bathroom but the bed was very comfortable and the room quiet.

The hotel has a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, quirky set up in a series of old buildings sewn together, lovely garden area. Location was brilliant, just a relatively short walk into the city but set in a quiet back street, very little noise in the evenings. Our room was clean and very comfortable with an nice outlook onto the garden, facilities in the room were good, everything you need. We only have breakfast there which was very nice but I would be tempted to stay for dinner now I have seen the quality and service. Parking was fine in what seems like a secure carpark on site.

I only have positive comments to make, if I were to be unjustly critical I could say that the room was on the small side, but we only booked a standard room, we could have upgraded, which on our next visit we may do.

Middletons is set in beautifully maintained gardens and is just a short walk over the bridge from all the attractions York has to offer. The hotel staff are all very polite and eager to help. Our room was situated in a separate building and was very clean and very well equipped with anything you needed for a short stay.

Our room was situated on the ground floor and therefore we were unable to open the window as people were passing by on the street. this made our room feel quite stuffy unless we had the air conditioning on which we didn't want during the night.

Delicious! And the staff were wonderful - extremely courteous, helpful and friendly. My elderly dad lost a carrier bag of biscuits and they were super at tracking it down for him as though it contained the crown jewels - so grateful to them for their patience and professionalism. My aunt also hosted a family party there which was great - very comfortable function room, nice food and again great staff keeping our drinks topped up :)

Rooms were near the stairs and the races were on that weekend, so my dad found it a little noisy through the night.

loved the older style historical building with lovely new interior decor. all the extras in the room really made a difference too! definitely would love to return for a longer stay.

only 2 things that raised concern really. first - on arrival, we checked in and we’re told that our room wasn’t ready yet when I had requested early check in at 12. the room wasn’t ready until 1, and I was still made to pay a full early check in fee at the end as well as parking. not the best but overlooked it at the time. the other thing was whilst checking in and waiting for room, we went to bar for some cocktails (as it was a birthday trip) and the first cocktail I asked the barman to make (espresso martini) he said he wasn’t able to make it as he didn’t know how. a shame but I suppose it saved me £25 on two cocktails!!
