Lovely old hotel of character, ideally located in old town. Some comments refer to the neighbourhood being a bit debatable but it is quite safe. Remember you are in an old part of the city there will always be some people asking for money but there was never any problem. People also say there is no breakfast but breakfast is not included, however the hotel offer free coffee and croissant in the morning so no complaints there please ! It is a budget hotel, if you are looking for 4 star accommodation then book elsewhere and pay the much higher cost, if you are looking for character, good value and a brilliant location then this is for you.

The location is super great! 1 min walking to the Main independence plaza. The shopping street ( the old street that goes to the old port and market) also 1 min away. The hotel is located right at the intersection of the Old city and down town. Cozy building with gorgeous gate and elevator ( French style) with small rooms and separated bathroom, with a balcony. All cute but old and worn out. Clean but not pristine. After all I appreciated the location. Safe but after 8pm no people outside and everything closes. They don’t serve breakfast just a coffee with a pastries but there is a food store 2 min away “Fresh market”, where you can buy a cooked food to go as well as some groceries , it’s a good selection of everything( if you prefer to keep some in the room), it’s open late. no fridge in the room. But all is expensive in Uruguay, hamburger was $14. Not so many options for lunch or dinner, mostly fast food, like MCDonald.

Breakfast would help.

Central location in old town. Great value budget room. Coffee and pastries in morning even though price was room only. Clean. All necessities. Comfy bed. The hotel is like going back in time is you like vintage things such as the cage elevator. Friendly staff. 24 hour reception makes it feel safe. Balcony and high ceilings.

Very noisy both in the hotel and outside, at all times of day and night. Very basic but for the price that was ok. Not been modernized. Staff spoke no English or very little. It was a bit tiresome handing the key in every time I left the room - felt like I was being monitored. Really thin toilet paper!

The location is perfectly central for all the main city attractions and sights. Secure Parking is available about 100 metres away at a cost 360 UR Pesos per day . Beds are comfortable , hot water and showers were good . The free hot coffee or tea and hot milk for self service along with pastries and medalunas were very appreciated by the guests , and is a nice touch for guests.

Some renewal of the doors , locks , baths and patios were needed. Clarity by Booking.com on the methods of payment to the hotel is needed to avoid embarrassment in payment method and currency acceptable and cash or card discounts .

Very good location in the very center of the city. It's easy to get to from the airport by direct bus for $2.50. The hotel is not new, but it's suitable for a couple of nights. The staff is very nice and friendly, though they don't speak English. However, with a Google translator, we had no issues. They don't offer breakfast at all in the hotel, but they offer tea, coffee, and delicious pastries in the morning, which was very appreciated. There is hot water with good pressure and also good Wi-Fi. It was also nice to have an elevator in the hotel so we didn't have to carry our luggage up the narrow stairs.

The soundproofing is poor, and it was cold, but there is a warm blanket and an air conditioner that heats the room.

The location was certainly the best aspect of it. Very central, and you can walk to most of the tourist attractions. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful.

The photos made the accommodations look newer than they actually were. It is an old historic building and overall it was very comfortable and well taken-care of. Also, at night, it's better to arrive at the hotel by taxi as it gets kind of empty.

The hotel is located in the old city centre of Montevideo almost on the main square, but also close to the main square of the modern city. It is a very convenient location to explore Montevideo. It is located in a historical building and overall it is nice even if it is not a luxury hotel. The room we stayed had a terrace with a nice view.

The historic city centre of Montevideo is not really alive at night and during the weekend, even if it does not feel unsafe, you would need to take a taxi or Uber to go to other neighbourhoods to find lively areas.

Cozy and old world charm to this hotel, and incredible value at the price. They have a cute little elevator and a quaint little roof top, and the sweetest staff that works there. They even have coffee, tea, and bakery in the morning which we weren't expecting.

It was very nosy at night. Street noise not from inside the hotel (even with the AC running) we could hear all the Saturday night walkers and partiers. The hotel is charming but old, so it's a little tired, but again for the price we paid (less then $50 a night) we have no complaints it was perfect.

location is fantastic to head out and walk to most sights and restaurants, otherwise buses and taxis are very easy to get around with. the palace hotel is an old building and that definitely shows in bathroom, furniture etc, my guess is it hasnt been updated since 1980s, but if you like old world charm this is a great place at a bargain price as far as I see it. shower is hot with plenty of water. place is clean and wifi works very well even for downloading, sending attachments etc. the staff is SUPER friendly (without much english, but they use google translate if needed). balcony/fresh air of room, and view over old town roofs is another plus. there are coffee and danishes in the morning. there is a starbucks practically across the street also.

had some trouble at first understanding the different electrical plugs. look for euro style and option to plug in US style 2prong plug in bathroom by the hair dryer! a direct USB plug in option would be really helpful to have in room. there are few people walking in the old town / pedestrian area at night, so alone it may be good to take a taxi back to hotel late night.

Location. Old colonial building with charming original features. Didn’t serve breakfast, but had complimentary tea/coffee and pastries in the morning. Our room had a nice big balcony which was nice to sit out on and have a glass of wine in the evening.

The old elevator makes a lot of noise which can be annoying late at night as you can hear the noise in the hallways in your room. But it wouldn’t stop me from staying here again.
