A retro/quirky hotel - great change from the big chains. Food in the bar and restaurant are excellent, service is good and provide a shuttle to Universal Studios.

a little noisy - but it’s near the freeway, hence the great location. not a problem, I used earplugs!

Nice hotel with a nice atmosphere. Location was good, away from the madness but close enough to drive to most of the attractions. Room was excellent, we had a Portolla suite which had lots of space and was very clean. The food on site in the restaurant and pool side take out was very good.

The traffic noise from the freeway adjacent at night was very noticeable in the room. The hotel shop doubles as the concierge, and on the two occasions i asked about local info/tours, i didn't really get much back. Whilst food generally excellent, was a little disappointed with the quality of the breakfast buffet.

It really is an Oasis in North Hollywood. On entering the hotel there is a homely and comfortable feeling, it’s a great place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of LA. Loved chilling out by the pool, room was great, plenty of conveniently located parking. Nice bar and restaurant on site with good ambience. We would stay there again.

The restaurant is expensive and caters for outside guests as well so it can be difficult to get a table. For these reasons eating outside may be preferable but options are limited if you don’t have a car to get around. Also, the area does not strike me as being particularly safe to walk around at night, Hollywood in general has an edgy vibe. Hence there is a feeling of being a bit restricted food wise when staying there without a car, especially for a longer stays.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Garland. The location was excellent for Universal Studios but also for looking around LA. We had a rental car so did not use the trolley. The room had everything we needed, including coffee. We loved the pool setting and ate there twice. We had two children 9 and 12 with us and they had so much fun in the pool with other children around this age. (we stayed in July). The menu is great. We also ate brunch at the restaurant and it was delicious. We made use of the laundry facility which was useful after two weeks of travelling. The staff was friendly and helpful and we would recommend this hotel for families.

The hotel is beautiful, family friendly, the staff is nice and helpful. The Front Yard restaurant is excellent. The hotel is in a great location and near a lot of attractions. It is definitely a unique hotel to stay at with a lot of charm! Even with my complaints I would stay there again.

The room was really loud at night because our rooms balcony faced the highway. Even with the door closed it was pretty loud. It didn’t bother anyone else in the family, so maybe it’s because I am a light sleeper at hotels anyway. Definitely couldn’t open the door or sit on the balcony and chill without it being too noisy.

This hotel is truly a luxurious gem and highlights California in all the best ways. The trolley is so darn cute and we would’ve loved to utilize it but we needed to get to universal by 630 am. Everyone was helpful kind and always had a smile. Everyone clearly loves working there. The rooms were immaculately clean as well and the beds were literally some of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in and I am extremely hard to please! The pool area is very cool but small and can’t accommodate large amounts of people comfortably but the bar has amazing drinks! The little shop is so cute and I bought so many things to take home! You won’t be disappointed when you stay here 🩷! We will be back if we find ourselves needing to be in this area again!!!

The only things I think could be improved is more pool beds and staff watching chairs so if new people come in they know which chairs are taken and which aren’t on very busy days, also more poolside staff to take drink orders. The other thing is the ac units in the bedrooms are extremely loud but I wear earplugs and my daughter & husband were able to sleep regardless of that. Maybe some robes and slippers in the room for adults too :)!!

We requested the top floor since we are light sleepers, and they put us in a nice room facing Universal which was nice to watch the fireworks from our balcony since it was the 4th of July. The pool was nice and clean, and it was great they had a hot tub for families and adults.

Only downside was we arrived early and was told we'd be called when our room was ready and never were. Luckily we were able to access the pool early and had a nice time while we waited. It also would have been nice if the shuttle to Universal had a shuttle earlier than 7am for those who have early access to the park. But was nice to use the shuttle for the other times.

Brilliant location for getting access to interstate to get out of LA as quick as possible. Bed really comfortable. air con did not really cool down room so spoiled sleep. Only one takeaway cup supplied for drinks in room. Pool area small and VERY crowded. Ambience spoilt by private parties taking over most of hotels small public places. Felt very safe. Laptop safe would not take our laptop. Checkout and valet at 5am very good, although advised that we would be in Vegas in two hours, when it really takes 4!

Air con did not get room temp below 70. Pool too small to be relaxing

We occupied 2 rooms with a connecting door, which was very convenient. We were a couple in 1 and my sister and her 2 kids in the other. We all really enjoyed this retro mid century modern hotel with a spanish-Cali style, which is totally us! From the colors, decor and comfy seating in the lobby, halls and rooms - it hit the right notes. The Shuttle to Universal was so convenient and the drivers were top notch, so friendly and accommodating. Bed, bath and seating in our rooms were fantastic, in the Portola building. SO Smart to have a hole in the shower glass so you can reach in and turn on the shower water before you step in, so you don't get wet. What a concept - whoever thought of this should get a year-end bonus! The cute shop on site is SO well-curated with eclectic CA taste and thoughtful items for gifts. We bought clothing and were tempted by snacks. Store staff were amazing there as well. The Front Yard was delicious for a quick dinner and also is the result of someone's gorgeous direction. The pool was a welcome spot of relaxation after a full day at the park. Hot tub was perfect in the morning. Parking is plentiful. Named for actress Beverly Garland, a gifted talent (My 3 Sons and much more), her portrait graces the lobby (we asked the staff). A must stay hotel for the true Hollywood experience!

One thing that would be great to change is the height of the grab bars in the shuttle for those needing to stand. They allow more guests than they have seats for, so we had to stand. If you're average height, it's impossible to try to hang on to the high bar. you end up swinging into seated people and it's very uncomfortable. Hopefully this tip will give people the best experience possible. Thanks
