We loved the quirkyness of the historic building, the location was excellent and the staff were great.
Our check-in was complicated because Dee (the manager) had tried to contact us in advance but we didn't have internet connection whilst we were travelling. We resolved this easily with the help of the restaurant manager from the hotel's sister company. (which was also a great place to eat!)

Dee is an absolute PLEASURE to deal with. He is so knowledgeable about the property. We came in on a very late flight and he sent me a message with step by step directions on how to get in and get to my room! My husband and I were only in town for the day and we didn’t rent a car as we were just going to explore old town and he even allowed us to keep our suitcase at the hotel so we could look around without having to lug it. The room with the wooden tub was gorgeous. If you have the chance to stay here, do it!
Everything was up to par. We couldn’t have asked for a better place or host. We will be back! It is pricey though!

Ghouls, ghosts and Mr. Dean!! Wonderful stay!! Amazing vintage rooms with there fair share of ghostly energy. Huge porcelain bathtub, comfortable beds and so much to do within walking distance. Check in was easy and the property felt very secure! I loved the privacy provided. The interior courtyard was gorgeous with fresh fruit trees, birds and butterflies… The continental breakfast provided was very nice. The hotel provided good items to grab in the AM!! Coffee, bagels and plenty more. I would stay here again in a second!!! Thank you!!!!
The restaurant was still closed … wah wah

Besides the amazing history and paranormal activity from the moment we stepped foot on the property we were greeted by Dee the manager who was the kindest most welcoming hotel manager I’ve ever had. He took the time to answer all of my 9 year olds questions about the ghost encounters, history and other stories. The grounds are peaceful, only 10 rooms so you don’t encounter too many people when there, we stayed in room 4/5 which was great, everything old and authentic, no tvs! Super big and comfy bed. The wrap around porch on the hotel overlooks the shops and restaurants of old town San Diego. Breakfast is included, it’s a light breakfast. Bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, coffee and juices. We experienced some paranormal activity in our room, lights flickering, orbs in photos, heard foot steps on the porch at 1 am and no one was there, heard a little girl laughing at the same time.
Considering the historical past and that the hotel is trying to preserve that I think they captured it perfectly. If you’re weirded out by ghosts or the idea of it maybe this isn’t the best place for you.

The hotel is so cute. It's mostly original. The rooms are decorated in period decor, but the amenities are new. The bed was SO soft and comfortable. Our room had an old copper bathtub the size of a car! haha My daughter and I took a huge hot bath, almost like being in a hot tub. The hotel is right in the center of old town. We could walk to so much fun stuff. It was so nice to just have everything right there: candle making, candy shop, delicious Mexican restaurants, etc. There isn't a TV in the room, but there is wifi, so we just watched our phones at night. There is parking right in front. Dee, the manager was so nice and accommodating. We loved the experience of staying in this old hotel. So much more memorable than your standard hotel!

The location is perfect! Right in the heart of Old Town. The service was above and beyond. We were greeted at our car and called in advance to verify check in time. Continental breakfast was just enough to start our day and super convenient.
It’s everything that was promised and a quaint old fashioned atmosphere. The bed could use a bit of upgrading as it was a little soft and squeaky but cozy enough. I think a coffee pot in the room and full length mirror would help improve without taking away from the charm. But overall, a unique and fun experience.

Beautiful old hotel with vintage furnishings and plenty of atmosphere.
When you arrive, you have to call a phone number for someone to open the gate and check you in. When I called the number, I reached voicemail and had to leave a message. Luckily, another guest exited the gate and then went back inside to tell them I was outside. Being stuck outside and unable to contact anyone at the hotel after being on the road and stuck in a road construction jam for two hours was very stressful.

Knowing this is a historic hotel is what attracted us to this property! Nestled in the heart of Old Town San Diego, this gem is so worth everything to stay here!!! Upon check in, we were greeted at the door and given personal service. Knowing this building has been around since the founding of San Diego before it was even San Diego, We expected some old ascetics. The hotel only has 11 rooms. We selected Room #1 (With a pine tub for up to two people). Being a classic historic building, every room has air conditioning that works soo well!!! Every room has a quiet air purifier. The doors have modern locks but the old school original door knobs. All rooms are on the second level. there is an elevator but it is just as easy to take the stairs if you can. Our room had like a little changing room/parlor that had a notebook with the history of the hotel and the old town district. What I loved was a little notebook that is left there to read about every one's experiences. We added ours last night. There is parking in the lot in front of the hotel but be sure to put the pass they give you so you do not get towed. We received a 10% off card for Casa de Reyes... GO!!!! We had such an amazing time!!! The bed and sheets and quilt on the bed were so comfy!!! There is wi-Fi but there are no TV's in keeping with the old West motif. This was perfect! You will not regret staying here!!
I would have liked to have had one more day. that is on me, not them. Parking can be a hassle early in the day but as business close or the night, you can move closer. I really have nothing bad to say about this property!

The arrangements are unusual but easy to work with--staff not always on site but accessible. It's like going back in time! You should expect a room and experience that is more similar to the historic experience that matches this historic site. Within that frame, I was surprised at the excellent condition of the antiques and fixtures. Very comfortable.

We absolutely loved the location, right in the centre of beautiful historical Old Town, San Diego. We were welcomed by Dee who was just the best person you could ask for to check you in. He was amazing. The room was just so pretty and representative of where we were, it was spotless and provided us everything we needed. Don't take photos of this beautiful hotel from outside, inside is just as beautiful.
There was absolutely nothing about the accommodation that we didn't like, the hotel currently has some staffing issues for their bar and restaurant following on from the last couple of years, but if they had been open it would have only added to our enjoyment of the facilities. You're also so close to everything in Old Town that it certainly didn't detract. Looking forward to our next stay when everything is fully up and running.
