The location was great and there was an assortment of breakfast items available. It was close to town, although for us seniors a bit too much of a walk into town (especially as weather was blustery). We had reserved a chalet w/2 queen beds and it turned out to be a 2-bedroom, which worked out perfectly as my husband became sick once we arrived and could stay isolated. The parking was easy and we were impressed with everything. Our daughter and son-in-law own a similar cabin/resort set up in Oregon, so we're familiar with all that goes into making and keeping the Chalet Hotel cozy and welcoming!

The Custer Chalet Motel is an excellent stop for the night and was a very welcome change for my wife and I who had spent the previous few nights in traditional hotels. Each chalet feels very private and had everything we needed. The staff were all very friendly and it was easy to see they cared deeply about the facility and the guests, we felt extremely welcome during our visit. We also appreciated the location of the motel, you are mere blocks away from the main streets of Custer so dining options were abundant. We would highly recommend staying here if you are in the area!

The location was excellent! A short drive to three major attractions - Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, and Custer State Park. The chalet had a kitchen with coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator. Also fully stocked with plates, cups, bowls, and silverware. Best of all is the owner! She helped me out with some mechanical problems I was having with my trailer. Even let me check out late so I could do some repairs before leaving. Above and beyond!

Nothing. Everything was excellent. This was a great place to stay and at an economical price.

Great location and room set-up for a group or people who can use their own space. We had two bedrooms, each with their own TV and the bathing facilities in the middle. Staff was nice, delivered bfast options to the room, and the room itself have good amenities. Within walking distance of a grocery store and downtown. I'd highly recommend.

The AC unit was in one room, so if it was hot out, then it might be hard to keep the entire unit cool. They use "real" keys, which as an extra thing to keep track of. Neither was horrible.

Chalets we’re charming and location was sweet for us.staff was knowledgeable in helping us getting around area. We were in area for Buffalo round up and to explore the black hills

We were put in a back unit and I couldn’t walk around the bed, I had to crawl in the bottom of bed. When one has to get up in middle of night , this presents a challenge. Just something to keep in mind when putting elderly people in those units.

I couldn't have hoped for better accommodations in Custer. The Chalet remains in tact as similar to how it was built in 1937 while providing the comfort, cleanliness and amenities one would find in a modern hotel. We stayed in three separate rooms, 14, 15, and 9, offering each adult member of our family their own private space while providing a larger gathering space with a kitchen in #9. The owner, Michelle, brings experience in operations of much larger hotels without compromising the authentic and historic ambiance of the Custer Chalet. The location towards the edge of town was in walking distance of the large grocery store, hardware store, rock shop, car wash (right across the street) and Mickelson trail. Oh, also the best breakfast in town at the little drive through, or walk up window at the cutest little coffee place. Gosh, what else can I say. Comfortable beds, privacy, great atmosphere, wonderful staff. It couldn't have been more perfect. Next time I plan a trip to Custer if I can't stay at the Chalet I'll probably book something in Hot Springs. Mahalo nui Loa Custer Chalet!

Staff was very nice and helpful. I forgot a can opener and they had one for me to borrow! Towels were super soft, bed was really comfy, especially the quilt. We didn't need to light up the gas fireplace but having that quilt was really nice.

Nothing to report here, only a suggestion for future guests. We had a 2 BR unit with one in the front and one in the back of the room. Because I wear hearing aids, I stayed in the front room, closer to the parking lot, (the office was next door) so that my friend could be further away from any night time sounds. It worked perfectly. I never heard a thing.

I was road tripping solo, this was a place to crash near wind cave. The rooms are small cabin-like buildings. The room was clean and comfortable enough. The staff are very accommodating, helping you play Tetris with parking vehicles such that nobody gets blocked in. also if you tell them you’re leaving early and would like their breakfast offering, they’ll give you a bag on the spot.

It’s no fault of their own, but it feels like a contest with these cabin designers to make the bathrooms as small and uncomfortable as possible. A suggestion- please supply a table fan at least in every room. with 3 out of 4 windows sealed shut, the only way to have some airflow was to leave the cabin door open with the one window. also the white noise of the fan would be great.

Cute little individual houses, with original 1930s tourist camp charm. Within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants downtown. I had a very comfortable mattress. Staff was super friendly.

These are 1930s "tourist camp" houses. The bathroom and shower are small. Original sink without a vanity top surface. It's not that we "didn't like" these, I just feel like people should know what they are getting. BUT, the location and ambience of staying in an original 1930s tourist camp made the smaller space well worth it.

Location was great, it's on the edge of town so you can walk to restaurants, shops & bars. The deck behind property was a nice outdoor space with tables and chairs that we enjoyed. Michelle was great, and breakfast was distributed the evening before for those that were in their rooms, otherwise you grabbed what you wanted from the office the next morning.
