What a great place to stay when all you need to do is hang your hat when visiting the DC area. Speaking of area, I don't think one could ask for a better location. Owner was accommodating, staff was great and it perfectly met all my needs. In my opinion, it is great value for money.
I am a coffee-aholic and it would be great if there was a coffee machine (not the little 2-cup) available. Not too much of an inconvenience because Tryst (a darling coffee shop two doors down is open at 7:00 a.m.). Laundry would also be amazing, but the laundromat wasn't too far away - just a pain for a weary traveler.

I had a fantastic time at this hostel in Washington DC! The free breakfast was a nice way to start each day! The dorm was spotless and inviting, ensuring a pleasant stay throughout my time at the hostel! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, always ready to assist with any questions or recommendations about the city. Their warm and welcoming attitude made me feel right at home. The overall mood of the hostel was lively and positive, creating a wonderful atmosphere for socializing and meeting new people. I made wonderful connections with fellow travelers from around the world! The location of the hostel couldn't have been better: it was conveniently situated close to various museums and public transportation, making it easy to explore the city. All in all, I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during my time in Washington DC. I highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for an enjoyable and memorable experience. I'll definitely be coming back on my next visit to the city!

This is my go to spot when I am in DC for a night or two; luxury it is not, but it is safe, clean and fun. Why drop $200+ on a room I do little more than sleep in when I can grab a bunk in one of the best neighborhoods in DC for less than I spend on lunch? The dorm rooms have A/C, the staff is super friendly and helpful, kitchen is decent sized, and there are private rooms if you want one. It is literally in the heart of Adams in one of the most walkable and vibrant parts of the city that is also a short uber ride away from Union Station and the heart of the city. As a 40+ year old married lady I feel safe strolling the colorful streets of AdMo that are lined with a variety of restaurants, shops, and entertainment spots frequented by locals and tourists alike and love the convenience of this neighborhood. It is an old historic building though, so there are stairs, but free wi-fi and delightful conversations more than make up for it. See you soon Steve and crew!
A new stepstool for the girls bunk. But then again I am not as agile as I used to be. Other than that I had a delightful time as always.

The curator of this hostel, Elana, puts her all into it and it shows...she made my stay extraordinary. The location can't be beat, amazing area! If you can't find something you enjoy here including comedy clubs, rugby bars, food of the world, Marijuana, bar after bar, hookah inckuded, great people with the nearby Smithsonian free attractions and free Smithsonian zoo (please donate!)... I'm pretty positive you need psychiatric help and to be marked as a potential terrorist!
Little bit warm in the room because the fan didn't work and I sense it will only get warmer in the summer. Breakfast is pb&j with milk and sunny D so bring some eggs! Great living room area with plenty of chess, chess, board games, and television. An outdoor grill would be nice but the kitchen and 2 fridges are adequate, they'll do the trick. Please donate games you aren't using!

The Rate Washington International Student Center is a clean and snug hostel that offers a basic continental breakfast. It is located in a safe neighborhood with many entertaining pubs and restaurants with tasty affordable food. The White House and most of the major sights are all accessible by foot. The staff is exceptional kind and helpful. I enjoyed my stay very much and I can recommend this hostel to everybody who is kind without any restrictions. Thank you very much.

The place is nearby everywhere like eateries down below us, zoo are just easy to walk to. Bus 96 from union station is in front of the postal museum. The people where nice and chatty. Bath is clean. Room is cold and comfy esp. After a long walk on the heat.
A bit old place. It's just that u cannot open the window for some fresh air from time to time except the kitchen. Now it's really hot so understandably no opening of windows is fine. Bathroom maybe can put up a hook to hang the towels and clothes.

Nice and clean room with AC. Very friendly and helpful host. The kitchen and bathrooms were clean. I recommend this hostel for few days in Washington. Good price
The water in the shower was a little bit cold, in the evening WiFi connection was bad but mornings okay, the bus to the centre was every 30min

Liked the people, but shouldn't have too much expectations. I didn't have any problem with the place, but it's cheap and as such you should expect it to be cheap looking as well. Don't be a princess and you will enjoy it.

Hostel is in the great area. Nightlife and nature is just around the corner. There is cable TV , ok common room and kitchen! Steven, the owner of the place is intelligent, wise and ready to help you! He would even entertain you with stories and jokes!
Seems like some of the people are long term visitors ! Personally I don't have an issue with that...but not having long term stay people would give place more energy and more dynamics
