Astor Hotel Motel

The Astor is a good basic motel, clean and tidy and perfect for an Albury stopover. It has a terrific colourful retro facade which outshines all the ordinary brown brick motels in the area. Having the restaurant and bar on site is a bonus, but only a few minutes' drive into town. Although it's an easy walk and a chance to visit some op shops on the way! Not everyone's thing, I know.

It is a basic room with no bathroom vanity or basin, but not such a problem to wash hands, clean teeth etc in the basin in the main room. It's not priced as luxury and I'm sure people understand that. I rarely travel with a hairdryer nowadays because all accommodation, even the most humble, have one. But the Astor doesn't, which was a bit of a surprise. It's an item the owners could supply very cheaply and would be appreciated by those of us who have the expectation it will be supplied.

I stayed in the 2 bed apartment which had a well-appointed kitchen and comfortable beds. The apartment was located in a quiet laneway behind the hotel. Close to main street with many coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance. The property also has an excellent restaurant onsite.

Cobwebs and spiders in room corners. lounge was very old sagging and stained. These minor issues did not bother me personally but did for other family members.

Great location, staff at the pub were all really friendly and helpful. Had a great dinner at the pub. plenty of parking. room was immaculate.

Mattress was comfortable enough but a little saggy. I had a room that had a (locked) door to an adjoining room - a lot of noise from next door leaked through to my room (I could hear every detail of this persons showering, television habits etc). But for such an affordable stay this wasn’t a huge problem. It’s a busy area with the pub and nearby businesses so if you’re a light sleeper, you may want to bring earplugs. Otherwise a fantastic place to stay.

Return traveller here - Loved the customer service, arrived late, and got keys from the bar. Super helpful, friendly and just nice people. Great experience. Room was clean. It's renovated set up and you can see the bones of what it was once - now a big improvement. Parked outside. The place was packed. Reasonably quite for a Friday night.

The mattress is a bit thin. The aircon a bit noisy. No way to open a window (Lots of cars out there so not a huge prob)

Room was clean and quiet. Bottom floor meant it was easy to park directly outside the door making it easy to move between the room and the car. Easy location to the shops and food. With Aldi, fruit and vege store, restaurants and take away options just across the road.

The room felt a bit cramped, standard single motel room in reality. Wifi / phone coverage at the desk wasn't available (I guess being in the back corner meant that no connect could get through). Which resulted in having to sit awkwardly on the bed to by the window to accomplish work.

This is a great place to stay if you are travelling down or up the Hume. It's comfortable, close to both the highway and Albury's main street, quiet, and convenient. If you are after luxury and all the cake icing of a four star place, this isn't your jam. It's an old style motel. You park, eat, and sleep. It's not 'an experience.' It's just a pleasant place to recharge before continuing your trip. I had a great sleep.

Glass in the room would have been nice. The garbage hadn't been emptied under the sink and the fan in the bathroom needs some TLC. Otherwise, it was fine. Check in was a bit hectic in a crowded bar but not a big deal.

Staying here is like a step back in time, how motels were in the seventies, very simple and sometimes odd layouts. The hotel has had a facelift and looks quite funky so it by in far looks loved and well maintained. Our room had a car parking spot right out front the door our bathroom with just a toilet and shower, the hand basin was located in the main bedroom. Our room was clean, the beds were comfortable (I have a sore back so bed comfort is always high on my list) and the air con in heater mode worked fantastic on a very cold winters night. The room rate was ridiculously cheap considering we booked late and there wasn't many rooms available in town. The pub/dining facilities are fantastic and although new are themed in the Miami 80's styling and are as good as you'll get anywhere with multiple options for drinking in a cosy room or an atrium with fireplaces. We ate here both nights and the meals are great with lots of options. The place gets very busy and seems to be a favourite with locals hosting parties, so it has a great vibe. I would definitely choose staying here again because of the overall package this location offers.

To be honest, there is nothing I didn't like, the room rate was reflective of the level of appointments our room had (I'm not sure if there are more modern rooms in the hotel as there seems to be many rooms) so you honestly can't complain.

Located on the North side of Albury, the Astor had all the convenience of a motel with a pub/ bar / restaurant attached. Also a short 15min walk into Albury town centre. The fact that one does not have to leave the premises to park, eat and sleep is fantastic. The pub / bar / restaurant was clearly a favourite with locals (and not just guests) as it was packed for dinner service. Would def stay here again.

I wished the interior of the rooms matched the aesthetic of the exterior - however, that being said, it was comfortable and did the job. Noise could be heard outside from our ground floor room but it's a minor point and it is a motel after all (not a hotel).

Quirky motel two seconds from the off (S) exit ramp. Love the 50's design. Bed was comfy and warm, just what you need on a road trip. As a regular traveller from Newcastle to Ballarat, I'll be adding the Astor to the top of my sleepover list. Thank you for a lovely night. My only regret is the Sydney traffic keeping me to 55k/h, I missed the opportunity of dinner there as well. Fingers crossed for my return trip next week. 😁

Exceeded expectations! We stayed here for one night on our drive to Melbourne from Sydney. The hotel has been nicely done up and looks great. The rooms are a bit dated but quite clean with a good little kitchen area. Staff were lovely and the food and drinks at the hotel were great. Highly recommend eating here.

Bed was a little springy and the rooms could do with a refresh to match the overall vibe - but for the price absolutely excellent.
