Maldron Hotel Sandy Road Galway

Location was great, staff friendly. Room and bed was comfortable.

As a paying customer, the only downside was the hotels being used to home those fleeing from other countries (which I've absolutely no issues with) but the children where running around and it was hard to enjoy a peaceful break away with my partner. I think it should be made public that it's being used for that purpose. To give members of the public a choice to stay or look elsewhere.

The staff were fantastic. Having worked as a corporate hotel restaurant manager myself I know the demand having tours in can create. Despite this the staff still went above and beyond to be helpful. An extra special mention must go out to Emma at breakfast who was super friendly and took an interest in our stay, what we were up to etc. Our 8 year old son adored her, he even gave her a hug at our last breakfast <3 thank you!

Nothing of any great nature. It would have been nice to be given more info at check in re ideal breakfast/dinner times, especially with having tours in and the hotel generally being rather busy.

Our room key device had to move room to around the corner from room 105 were our kids were staying. We were moved to room 124. Upon trying to enter the room there was already a guest in the room. He had to move all his belongings to another just like we had from moving from room 104. We didn’t have a fridge so they had to find us one. It took about two hours for all this to settle down. They told us our rooms would be next to each other… which they were not. We didnt get a fridge til later. They were fully booked so they were very busy. The shower panel in room 124 does not cover enough to prevent water from spraying onto to the floor… even with shower head pointing inwards its a poor design.

Staff were lovely, we had afternoon tea and it was fab

Access to an ice machine would.have been great and air conditioning was hard to use, with now windows to open the room was quite hit and stuffy

Family room was spacious and beds were comfy. We had a corner room with lots of windows along two walls, this was great to have the curtains open and let in lots of natural light. Breakfast was good. My kids loved the hot chocolate from the coffee machine.

There wasn’t any little bottles of shampoo or conditioner. I had been looking forward to arriving and being able to wash my hair, thinking it’s a big hotel surely they’d have those. But was just a Shower gel & shampoo mix in one dispenser. Which I can’t use on my long thick hair as I need conditioner to help with the knots. Was a little further away from the city centre than I thought, so would probably stay somewhere else that’s closer if I come back again.

Cleanliness of room, comfort of bed, free underground parking, and front desk staff were very friendly and helpful also

The restaurant staff apart from one were awful, the tall guy with the afro was good and knew what he was doing but the other two were diabolical, soup took 25 minutes be served, a table of 5 or 6 walked in 10minutes after we ordered our soup but for some reason they received they're mains well before we got our soup, took 45 minutes for turkey and ham, following this the waitress 'Saoirse B' cleared the table in silence didn't ask was anything ok or even if we wanted desserts I had to ask her myself for a menu, then another waiter brought our desserts out and didn't give us spoons 😂 all the food was nice but shocking service, and this on a very quiet Wednesday, no excuse for this whatsoever I think there was maybe 3 other tables in for food that's it, don't think il ever be back

I like the location, the room sizes were brilliant and the rooms were very clean and not stuffy, also well presented Lovely hotel and a great location but I have stayed in better for less

Some staff were ignorant and rude when leaving I was not asked how my stay was after spending €300 on 2 rooms When we got there we were told that the room were guaranteed for 3pm l, one of our rooms wasn't ready until 3:30 The trays in the bar and grill that the drinks were brought over on were filthy and looked like they hadn't been washed And there were 2 bath towels but only one hand towel in the bathroom which was a first and I travel a lot Also there was not a ceiling light in the bedroom area. The bulb in the standing lamp had blown also

Location is very good for accessing central Galway, Salthill, Spiddal etc. Decent amenities in the immediate area too, shopping centre, children's play centre cinema etc. Staff very friendly and helpful, rooms nice and clean, free parking, not a lot wrong in fairness

It was a little loud in the hallways at times its a family friendly hotel, and we had children with us too, but it was hard getting them to sleep as there seemed to be kids running up and down the hallway for a few hours in and out of rooms etc. Had breakfast and dinner during the stay, dinner was very good breakfast was fine, selection a little limited.

Nice friendly staff, good size twin room with two double beds. The room and facilities also seemed clean and looked after.

It wasn't clear about recycling options although there was a bin in the hallway by the lifts which may have been for that. I would prefer less towel changing for the environment. It was a bit of a walk into the main city center. I'd prefer not to have to ask for beans at breakfast and also the coffee situation was a bit unclear and clunky. The tv in the room was hard to use which may possibly have been a dodgy control.

The rooms were spacious, quiet and clean. And the staff were generally helpful except for one male staff whom we felt was a bit curt. The breakfast was good. There was a convenience store at the nearby petrol station and a supermarket nearby. It will be good for people who drive.

It was a bit of distance from the town area. At least 30 minutes walk and if it rains, it’s even longer. Which means the eating places are also further. The hotel does not provide bottled water (except at a one euro fee) though you can get a jug of water from the cafe.
