PHI Hotel Canalgrande

The location, in the centre of Modena, was great, especially as were able to park right outside the hotel. The bed was very comfortable.

We liked the hotel overall but it’s quite shabby and could do with refurbishing. The selection of food at breakfast was quite good, but there was hardly any hot food - just fry-looking scrambled eggs and bacon. We’d usually a 4-star hotel to at least make eggs to order.

We had a large corner room on the first floor overlooking the rear courtyard gardens, giving added tranquility. The room and bathroom were well-heated and comfortable. The terrace overlooking the garden is a pleasant place to sit and catch some sun, including on a winter’s day. Breakfast included a good range of food selections with coffee proved by the waitstaff. We found the staff cheerful and welcoming. The hotel has some grand public rooms, albeit representing some faded grandeur. We thought the whole experience pleasant enough - plus the hotel is in easy walking distance to the various attractions in the Modena old town area as well as the Enzo Ferrari Museum. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars in nearby side-streets.

An excellent variety at breakfast - health and good quality. The huge bonus of this city centre hotel is its delightful planted garden area for breakfast and a spacious outdoor first-floor terrace for drinks. Well-equipped bedroom. Ideal central location if you have legs for walking. Both the city and the hotel take the eco-agenda seriously

Drinks at the bar ordered through reception if you wanted it on the room-tab. The big downside was the lack of light snacks on-site, but there are plenty of trattoria nearby

Excellent central but quiet location. Lavish breakfast buffet which in fine weather is served on a beautiful terrace. We had a suite to which we were upgraded as our first room was rather shabby,

I was disappointed in the first room to which we were shown as it was in need of decoration. We were told we could not change rooms until the following morning but then magically we were moved into a luxurious suite. The only thing which was a bit odd was that there were only paper cups in the room.

The location is great, just two minutes walk from the nicest areas of Modena. The staff is helpful and kind. The room is comfortable and clean. The wifi works well enough. Breakfast was excellent. The building itself is a gem of a building, wonderfully decorated with frescos and with a lovely garden outside.

The room was maybe a bit dark. The building is old, and some people may not like to stay in an ancient building.

central location it is perfect. The breakfast room was huge with the wonderful option to eat out on the patio. It was a pretty standard continental breakfast and we were happy with it. The room was super comfortable and beautiful. We even enjoyed a little "work from home" there.

The breakfast could have been maybe more "fresh" but overall pretty good and up to standards.

The hotel is old style with beatufil afresco on the wall and it is located in the city center. The rooms are clean and the bathroom is big with a great hot shower. The staff was very professional and kind. Breakfast is huge and great.

The room door was very thing and it might be noisy. Be careful cause the hotel is located in a traffic limited zone. Better to call the staff to get more info.

Great location on a quiet residential street and easy walk to main plaza and central attractions. Staff in all departments--main desk, dining area, front door, corridors--were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and multilingual. Although main lobby and room decor are showing a bit of faded glory, everything is functional and comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding.

Location is in a restricted car-access area and not easy to find, even with navigator, and the pre-arrival guidance via email was invalidated by ongoing roadwork. As a consequence, we finally parked a few blocks away, arrived on foot, and left the car to the doorman.

The room was simple but nice, lots of pillows, comfy bed, AC worked great. When I checked in the staff went out of their way to find me a parking place on the street in front where I did not need to pay. The breakfast was excellent and the setting - a lovely garden filled with flowers and large trees- was beautiful and relaxing. The hotel was a short walk away from the historic center and all it's sites and the hotel provided me with a map and directions to all the places I wanted to visit.

There was no bathmat in the bathroom so I used a spare towel, and the tub shower had no curtain, but otherwise all was good.

The location of the hotel is so good, close to restaurants and bus stops. A few minutes walking in the main attractions in downtown. The room was good and the breakfast had a diversity of fruits, cakes, juices, and much more. The local where is served the breakfast is divine, so charming. The bistro has good food and the and the super helpful people.

It is not well a problem, but the hotel could invest more in soup options in the bathrooms. Maybe create some kind of soup using the flavors of the region and with a fingerprint of sustainability.
