Hotel Spaander, BW Signature Collection

We had a lovely room with a king sized bed upstairs and a sofa bed for our child downstairs which gave us some privacy. The bathroom was clean and we had a balcony with a wonderful view of the lake. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and the swimming pool was spotless. The artwork was incredible!

No bin in the bathroom! No towel rails in the bathroom! Stairs to the top deck were narrow as expected so suggest anyone who is significantly overweight or who has mobility issues thinks twice before booking.

Amazing artwork throughout the hotel ….. in lieu of payment for food & lodging by visiting artists over the years. Some directly onto the wooden panelling of the restaurant. Sea views. Free parking not far away.

Small room. Overpriced for what it was. Also had average restaurant meals. Definitely not value for money. Our room #53, was near some sort of exhaust system for the hotel. The noise of this, coming through the fan vent in the bathroom was quite loud & very annoying. It was on for most of the day time ….. and couldn’t be turned off by us. When we returned to the room around 9.30 PM it was off ….. but recommenced again early the next morning. It was a buzzing noise in the bedroom and “ rumbled “ through the bedroom wall & bed. Reception staff advised they would be “ looking into it “ ……. BUT NO OFFER of compensation, a drink, a snack, a coffee …… anything at all ! Very poor customer service …… could easily have been avoided.

Fabulously quirky hotel. Great staff all round. Spacious room with good facilities. Sea view from room/balcony is exceptional. Great little touches in the room like a safe, fridge, fly screen fitted to balcony door, and a fan. Outstanding breakfast buffet. Location was spot on.

No refills on bottles of water (only got it on 2 out of 5 days). Shower gel empty after day 4. Our room was on the second floor and the balcony as well as overlooking the sea (which was beautiful) was also very close to an air con unit on the next building's roof, which made sitting outside very uncomfortable due to the noise. With the balcony door open we had to turn up the TV because of the constant buzzing noise - very annoying. Couldn't use the balcony for long. Guess we got unlucky with the room at the corner.

Room was quiet and pretty big. We stayed in "retro room", which simply means not refurbished lately, but it was ok, we knew what to expect as it was visible at the pictures while booking. The wellness facilities- swimming pool and saunas were included in the price, what we found great. Not many guests used them, so we had it practically just for us. We also used the parking next to the hotel, we expected it to be very busy as some of the streets in the vicinity seem to be pedestian zone only, but surprisingly it was not a problem to find a spot just in front of the hotel.

Very difficult to drive to hotel, through several blocked barriers and a pedestrian shopping street. It would have been so easy for the hotel to email us before hand with driving instructions, especially how to get through the barriers. Our room was tiny. The wind blew our balcony door shut and we were locked out, three floors up, with no phone and nobody about. We had not been told the door was self locking! We had to shout for help. Very embarrassing and upsetting. We were offered no compensation when we complained the next day.

The hotel's location is perfect. It sits right in the heart of the tourist convergence area, and by the sea. The front of the hotel is right on the street where tourists pass although, at the northern end of the pedestrianized street section. Parking is available at the back of the hotel but it is very difficult to find and one has to be aware that there are bollards on the street that lower to allow vehicles to pass. It is important to know the times these bollards operate when a vehicle stops in front of them. It will be best to ask the hotel reception for instructions and for access.

Well, the parking lot was a bit difficult to find. One has to know exactly where one is going. Even Google Maps is a bit confused when only the address is used to find the place. There are bollards that rise and lower when a vehicle stops before them. One has to call the hotel for accurate information on how to reach the parking lot and access to it.

The staff was very nice and professional, from the reception to the breakfast staff. Pascal, Jesse and more were fantastic. They also gave great local advice. The location is perfect if you want to be located in the center of Volendam but in a quiet corner: the lake is just in front of it and the beautiful typical doolhof houses are behind it. The breakfast is nice and has variety (they even had gluten-free bread when I asked for it) Keep in mind that it's an old hotel with history and not a super modern hotel: but it's comfortable and full of art and stories that make the place special. A totally authentic experience to immerse yourself in Volendam :)

First I was scared because when I was the City I asked the locals how I can take there, and they told me it was dangerous area since it is racist place but I didn’t felt any of that. The people very welcoming, sense humor and just very welcoming. The place is located good very good and I had a balcony, the stuff is very welcoming and Thank to Mariam the receptionist really good and very welcoming. If you like history and sea, and art u should go this place. I loved it. //From Sweden

The location was great. The staff were very nice. When we got moved to newer part of hotel it was fabulous.

They put us in a room at first which was noisy, very hot, no air con, we asked to be moved and they gave us a room equally as bad, mosquitoes, darkness, fan broken, sweltering hot. Basically older part of hotel is not up to standard. The new part is fantastic.

The Hotel Spaander is a place to fall in love with. The artpieces skattered on the walls of the old hotel tell the history of this place but also the history of Volendam. The people are very friendly. The views on the IJsselmeer are superb. What can I tell more: I certainly come back and bring my wife next time. Thank you.
