The George

The George is my "go to" hotel in Christchurch. Great rooms, quality restaurant, excellent service, good location and value for money. Highly recommended.

An abundance of toiletries which were of a high standard. Also liked the turn down service & chocolates (which is getting rarer & rarer in todays mad world) liked the touch of the George Bear on first night stay which has been given to our granddaughter. Location was fabulous as you can walk into where all the action is or you can catch the tram which is highly recommended. Bar staff great, friendly & pours a great Martini.

Overall Staff were great apart from Male Concierge. Rang room service for a bottle opener & upon opening door was very rudely & abruptly told that there was only one bottler opener in Hotel & he would wait until we had opened the bottle. (Maybe The George Hotel could nip down to the 2 bob shop & buy half a dozen of them so this doesn't occur again), Breakfast girls were great, yet again let down by one waitress who clearly did not want to be there on the 2 occasions we had breakfast in Hotel. Was totally not happy when asked for a teapot of boiling water for my tea that I had brought down to breakfast with me. Otherwise would have given a 5 star for staff.

Staying in the Luxury Suite with Spa Bath at The George was a delight. The kitchenette was well stocked, the walk in wardrobe was perfect and the bathroom luxurious. Lots of suitcase storage space too. Spacious seating areas and views of the Avon River, with the ducks paddling along, added to the enjoyment of this suite. Even when it was raining, it was lovely to be in such a green and light filled space. The staff that impressed me most were Scot (facilities), Concierges Mark and Matthew, and, in the dining room - Quentin, Ben, Vivian and the lovely Taylor (who had just started working at The George) and her supervisor, also a helpful and personable addition to the team.

My partner and I have never stayed in a hotel like this before, so we though we are on holiday let's book a night just for the experience. I cannot express in words how amazing every aspect of our stay was. We were greeted warmly with smiling faces, the check in process is quick and efficient. One of the team members showed us to out room (took our bags for us) and explained how all the lights and aircon worked. The room was beautiful, well laid out. Came with a shower with two seperate shower heads so no need to worry about temperature. A bath that all shapes and sizes would fit in and happily enjoy. Stunning views of the garden and a coffee machine. The attention to detail with the little things was something I really appreciated. Little shower bursts that dissolve in the shower, they smell amazing and help you relax ,little bath salts with lavender to enjoy and after dinner chocolate and water set beside the bed. The dinner service and food was to die for. My steak was a wee bit under what I normally like and I was half expecting just the steak back but no, my whole plate was redone it looked perfect, again no word just every aspect was spot on. We have felt so spoilt on our stay. We highly recommend any couple looking for a night or weekend escape to come here. You will be looked after from the moment you walk in, it makes you feel so special and relaxed. We will definitely be coming back and honestly we are counting the days. Thank you for an amazing stay

reception was open 24 hours, very fast turnaround on any service, helped us immensely with finding our luggage with the airport, great with directions etc. really makes you feel like a star. was the perfect room for our honeymoon. they even gave us a little note and a few gift chocolates when we said it was our honeymoon! very good.

the view was not good, but its nothing to complain about. you're right next to the park and the botanic gardens is like 5 mins away. i do wish they gave bedroom slippers, but not a problem, floor was heated.

Everything went well. We were greeted upon arrival with the news we had been upgraded, which was wonderful. Staff were helpful, friendly, informative, and the room was superb. One of the best we have stayed in. Layout out of the room was excellent, bed was better than comfortable, bathroom was gorgeous, kitchenette was a bonus. Coffee machine was great. We just simply loved it. And went immediately down to reception to thank them and ask for another night!.

Perhaps the only very minor complaint was that the coffee was not served hot enough in the cafe.

The room was large and comfortable, large tub/shower full of extra bathroom amenities, heated floors bathrobes ..honestly couldn't want more. We travel frequently and loved the fact you could put 2 suitcases side by each on a luggage stand rather than just a position for one case.

We both felt the restaurant lacked management. When we arrived there were no tables so we were squished under a hanging lantern on my head in a corner for a bite in the bar. There was no priority for house guests. We experienced this table situation every time..sitting in direct sun, tons of empty tables but we felt it was more about what suited staff and kitchen than the customer. Food was lovely and staff were friendly but seating is a problem and lack of management directing the team. Breakfast plentiful but buffet was not replenished.

The staff were extremely attentive, helpful and informative, especially the Concierge, Mark. The location is very central to most parts of the city and bars and restaurants are within easy reach. The hotel facilities are first class, with free laundry services and car parking onsite. The room was very comfortable and we slept well, there were a few minor noises from other room door opening early in the morning but certainly no encroachment into our room.

Well located and well appointed, the bar staff are lovely and the concierge service amazing.

Reception staff were good but on checkout, done in the evening for a very early morning depart, I am informed that they forgot a charge and insisted on payment. It was not elegantly done and as I had thought the payment, nearly 1000$nz in total , had already been paid, did not appreciate the nagging for 29$. A contract is when you are in accordance with a service and a charge, you can’t decide to add stuff later because something was forgotten, and not appreciated at 2 am. The elegant image took a battering here and I feel cheated, what were they going to do if I had already left the hotel? Take me to court for there error?

Comfortable room, very nice staff. Loved the little bear gift. Location was great and e-bikes were a very fair price which we hired out from the hotel.

Expensive, overpriced we felt but thoroughly enjoyed the stay nevertheless. Our ground floor room overlooked the car park and there was early morning noise both days with guests checking out so I would definitely request a room with a better outlook if staying again.
