Christchurch City Hotel

The location is excellent as it is very near Riverside Market and Botanical Gardens. A good hotel to stay to explore Christchurch city center. It is also not far from the bus terminal where there are several buses to and from Christchurch airport. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. He allowed us to have a late check out upon request as we arrived late when we checked in.

Very roomy rooms. When we checked in we were originally allocated a rooom with the shower over the bathtub. No problemo, we will just upgrade you to a better room with full shower. That’s great customer service.

Main restaurant upstairs wasn’t open Sunday and Monday

Lovely modern facilities. Fridge and nice range of teas in the room. Iron and ironing board. Good quality shower toiletries supplied apart from body lotion. Netflix service is a bonus. Great location with $10/day parking agreement with Hereford parking building close by. Would stay again

Fantastic central location, I could walk to all the places I wanted to go - Market Place, Ballentynes, Coffee Culture, Therapy Cafe, Scorpio Books, Shut the Front Door, Te Pae, City Art Gallery, Chch Museum (temporary mini version), the bus station and everything in between. I was delighted that the room was so spacious, tastefully decorated, comfortable bed, great bathroom with a spacious shower with most fantastic water pressure! A great rooftop restaurant bar, indoor with a great outdoor deck. Uniquely decorated, beautiful and cosy. Dinner and snack options are good and the food was delicious. Breakfast is in the same place, self service small buffet but adequate with everything you need. Cereals, juices, tea, coffee, fruit yoghurt oats, mini croissants, eggs, bacon e.t.c. Very good. Wonderful, friendly staff.

Almost nothing, just the toilet paper holder is in a tricky spot - almost behind the toilet!

The Hotel was great, very new, staff very friendly and helpfull and we got our room for a very good price. The only thing we missed, was a second comfortable chair - but probably we could have ask for that. A bit more space for sitting at the window would have been very appreciated. It seemed to us, there is more space to make this happen. But I don’t know… Unfortunately we couldn’t use the rooftop restaurant because it was closed, but we got a short glance before we left. It looks terrific and also the outside view is amazing. The train station is just 5 min away. Great spot to explore the new City Centre of Christchurch. Even if there are still quite a few pockets of almost untouched earth quake ruins, it became very lively again and it was great fun to explore it.

The staff are exceptional. They are friendly, helpful, always happy to answer a million questions, provide suggestions for nearby shops, etc., and to give advice on local cultural customs like tipping and pronouncing Māori words.

There were none of the typical toiletries I’ve become used to in hotels such as hair nets, cotton tips, bathrobes, slippers, etc. However, there was body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. But it had quite a strong masculine scent which wasn’t to my taste, but there was nothing wrong with it.

Check in was great and being able to store our bags/suitcases for a couple of hours the next morning was also a bonus. Staff very helpful.

I thought the top floor lounge was great for drinks and dinner but not suitable for breakfast. There were lit candles on the tables for breakfast, it was too glitzy (and dark) for breakfast, didn’t feel right. Our room was nice, very clean and tidy. The vanity in bathroom was small and not much space to put things. I can only assume as this room was designed for wheelchair access would be why the vanity was small and there was a shower curtain rather than glass shower. We had pre booked this room some time ago, so was surprised to get a wheelchair friendly bathroom.

The One Bar was fantastic. Beautiful food and lovely staff. The downside was it wasn't open on the Monday and Tuesday we were there and we only found out it was open on the Sunday we arrived when we enquired. The information was not given to us on arrival. We would have liked to go to the bar for cocktails on the Monday and Tuesday evening. Would recommend the Botanic Gardens and bus trip to Akaroa

Communication - lack of.

Optimum location and even though there were no overnight parking lots at the hotel, they partnered up with a nearby parking space to offer per-exit parking of just NZD$10. The room was very spacious and the bed was very comfortable! This was the best stay we had in New Zealand.

Would be nice if there were bathroom slippers as the bathroom floor was so cold, especially since it's nearly winter.

Great location, close to the riverside markets. Bed was comfy and it was quite quiet for a city location. No on-site parking ( most other places in the city don’t have parking either)but a great carpark a block away and reception will give you a ticket for only $10 which we thought was great value .

The in house ads said breakfast was available at the restaurant ( you get a $10 voucher per person ) but when we asked in the morning it was closed.
