Hotel Jardim Atlantico

The hotel in Jardim do Mar has apartments with fully equipped kitchens, more suitable for couples or families for 2 or more nights. The room I have is huge with two large beds, a large bathroom and of course the kitchen. The lady at reception is very helpful and friendly and there is also a dinner buffet (excluding drinks) for 20 euros, with a choice of chicken, meat and fish, plus salads and desserts. The location is perfect for those who like to hike. The place seems to have been around for a while, as you can see from the 80s? 90's? deco. There is a cottage-style common room with sofas and a small library. The beautiful footpath PR Vereda Prazeres to Paul do Mar (700m, 1.80km) is right on the hotel grounds and is a great way to visit the small fishing village of Paul do Mar. Unfortunately, the weather was at its worst when I was there, but of the few hours of sunshine I did get, the view from the balcony was simply stunning.

In general, I must confirm that the positives described in the majority of reviews are correct. Especially, this concerns the quality and quantity of meals offered for breakfast and dinner which are certainly reasonable and sufficient. The dining room is well suited for its purpose and offers a very pleasant and decent milieu for eating. We lived in a suite in the dependance with a breathtaking view of the ocean from the spacious balcony.

The suite was a little bit chilly due to the colder weather during our stay. This has been mostly due to the cold, fresh mountain wind and the temperature at the hotel's sea level. In spite of the excellent care, one can see the older age of the hotel. There is a shortage of parking places around the hotel and some 60% of cars must park outside the hotel premises. In the third decade of the 21st century, the absence of a Wi-Fi signal in hotel rooms is hardly explainable. The locker room next to the swimming room was not available. It is surprising and regrettable that in spite of year-long well-meant criticism to be found in most reviews, the hotel owner did not and could not modernize the hotel in order to better suit the contemporary requirements.

One thing that this hotel is worth staying at is the stunning view at the ocean and the mountain. When it's sunny, you can see things that are very far away. Sometimes it's foggy, and then you feel like you're above the clouds. The staff is super friendly and speaks a good English. Even the cleaning ladies do. We were welcomed with a fruit basket when we were checking in. We had to leave earlier due to an emergency at home. The hotel staff helped us to arrange everything and didn't charge us for the nights that we cancelled.

The hotel looks quite old and requires some renovation. There's a kitchen area in the room, but we'd like to have it equipped with a microwave. There's not a lot to do around the hotel, so a car is a must-have.

Lovely hotel miles from anywhere so if you like peace and quiet this is the place to go. Very polite and helpful staff. Great food in the restaurant, plenty of choices.Wonderful apartment overlooking the ocean and fantastic views all round. Indoor pool and sauna very good and even used outdoor pool..though a tad chilly in January! great location for walks and there's a courtesy bus to Calheta and the rum distillery...all in all a great holiday.

Staff was super friendly and helpful, beautiful location, very nice hotel, the view from hotel is breathtaking! Always clean room, prices are reasonable, cute wellness center which is included in the price which is really comfortable after a long trip. It’s a pity that the wifi or even internet (data) doesn’t work at rooms so every time you are planning a trip, which takes sometimes a lot of time, you have to go downstairs, but not a big deal, I always enjoyed it. Definitely would recommend everyone and totally coming back some day!

The location was absolutely fantastic, I like the fact that the hotel is next to the mountains that you can walk down if you like the steep. Me and my wife spent seven nights here and I was completely satisfied. The rooms are very well equipped and spacious. Delicious buffet breakfast with variety of food. Nice swimming pool. The staff is super nice and friendly. I found the prices very reasonable too, highly recommended place to stay at if you plan to visit Madeira.

Sunset views from your balcony. Local entertainment almost every night. Good buffet style breakfast. It's 1h drive from the hotel to Funchal one way. Most of the visitors in the hotel were older couples. The hotel is quiet and no lounge noises late in the night. 10+ parking spots by the hotel. Another 5-6 on the street, and plenty more on the parking 100m away. Great hotel. Away from the busy city life. Beautiful sunsets, every day.

Everything was great

Great location, on cliff overlooking the ocean with amazing views. Big comfortable room (studio) with small kitchenette, bathroom, twin beds, seating area and balcony; very spacious. Friendly and helpfull staff. Nice common room with fireplace. Some other reviews were unimpressed by the food but I disagree: it's not a gourmet restaurant but the breakfast and dinner buffets were varied and of good quality (during my 5-day stay). Excellent value for money - would stay there again.

Easy to reach by car; less so by public transport. Limited parking, noticeable even when the hotel was far from full. Wifi only in the common areas (ground floor), not in the rooms. I found the mattress a bit too soft. The finishings were dated but who cares; I wasn't there to sit and watch the furniture.

Was in a beautiful area with amazing views. The hotel was clean. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Was initially disappointed there was no AC in the room but realized you didn’t need it - just kept the balcony door open and the breeze was adequate. Food was good, desserts were great.

No WiFi service in the rooms- only had in the lobby common areas (can be seen as a positive as well since my children couldn’t just stare at their phones).

The cliff of Prazeres is one of the nicest spots of the island, overlooking the coast from the large balcony facing west for the sunset is simply fantastic. Easy access to various hiking trails. Small pool and simple sauna are nothing extraordinary but great to relax after a day's hike. I also enjoyed that they have a indoor fireplace in the library where you can sit with a glass of whiskey from the bar. Very friendly staff. Great value for money (I traveled in low season)

No Wifi in the room was a big downside for me. I had to sit in the hotel lobby to send some emails.
