Stunning views, super friendly and helpful staff, always fresh and delicious breakfast, not to mention hotel offers all these transfers to the popular places to visit/hikes to do. We were happy to get all answers and help regarding our tours, car rent and even we were offered lunch boxes on the days when we had to leave hotel before breakfast (for sunrise tour and early flight). To sum it up we were endless happy we booked this hotel and definitely would come back. It is amazing place for holidays.

Before arriving we read all those reviews about broken elevator but to be honest those complaints sounds really strange as in Madeira you will have to climb steep hills all the time, it's everywhere and there are no elevators on every corner, so if you want to avoid climbing hills just choose other destination.

Hotel and location has definitely exceeded our expectations! A great place to relax and and enjoy the calming wave sounds :) Rooms and balcony are very spacious, all staff is very friendly and helpful. We loved the two hotel dogs and cat, they earned an extra star for the hotel in our opinion :)

Breakfast was unbelievable, such a good selection of foods. Great location and always able to get some sun, no matter the weather. Room was spacious and had a nice view up the island. Nice bar area where you can relax and wide choice of cocktails and beers. Restaurant was good value and food was lovely.

Parking was the main issue as there was no real car park, so alot of street parking under cliff edges which puts you on edge when you have a hire car. Pool table was only in use during the middle of the day when most people would be out of the hotel anyway.

We liked literally everything ! The hotel has a variety facilities including an infinity pool, indoor heated pool, sauna, Turkish bath, lots of outdoor lounge seatings. It offers complementary daily shuttle to Funchal and transfers to nearby levada walks. Breakfast was super delicious with many options! Best of all, the people are just amazingly friendly and kind! They went above and beyond to help us! One day we had to miss breakfast for a sunrise hike, the kitchen staff packed us sandwiches, water, fruit juices etc. Do yourself a favor and book a room in this hotel :) I hope we will be back soon!

This was our second time staying at Estalagem. Amazing property, facilities and staff. It feels both comfortable and very safe to stay there with our two small dogs. Already looking forward to our stay next year!

The only thing I wish would be improved is the fitness room. It would be great if it could get some upgrades or be expanded a little so that it is possible to get a proper strength workout in during our stay, especially since there are no other nearby gyms. The receptionists are super friendly and it is possible to borrow tennis rackets and balls in order to play at a nearby court, so that way we were able to stay active during our stay this year.

Very helpful staff, lots of different parts to the hotel to relax in such as the pool, pool bar, regular bar and library. We had a sea view balcony room which was very private and had lovely views. We visited in late October and found the hotel to not be too busy but had enough people to create a pleasant atmosphere.

Since it was late in the season we at times felt as though they were winding down for winter despite the weather still being pleasant. For example the hot tub wasn’t checked very regularly throughout the day so often there was lots of tree debris in it and there wasn’t cushions for the sun loungers. Nonetheless the staff were very helpful and would have undoubtedly sourced us more had other guests asked.

Hotel is in a fantastic location and our room overlooked the cliff with stunning sea views and the sound of waves. Excellent breakfast and food and the pool bar is also an honesty bar when not manned and also has a terrace with awesome views. Excellent food in the restaurant and makes for a romantic meal when eating on the outdoor terrace sea views to the sea and town below. Lovely pool area with amazing sea views. View included dolphins one morning. The hotel puts on live music events where non-residents can attend. Makes for a great atmosphere but it does get busy and it also means you cannot eat in the outdoor restaurant area and getting served at the bar becomes a real challenge. A lift takes you down to the town and it then a short stroll to restaurants, bars and the beach.

On the day we arrived whilst there were sunbeds available there were not enough cushions for the sunbeds. The bar tender when asked about this then simply removed towels from sunbeds that had no other personal items and passed the cushions to other guests to use. Service in the bar can be slow at times, especially when there are live music events in the hotel.

Everything - from the stunning views from the room, the incredibly comfy and big bed, the infinity pool, the sauna and Turkish bath, the breakfast, the bar, the Friday party, the sunset views, the airport transfer, the transfer to Funchal, the welcoming and at all times helpful staff. We had a dreamy holiday.

The shower tends to flood the bathroom so you have to ensure the bathmat is in the right place. Also, would be nice to have a bottle of water in the room upon first arrival - we bought some from the supermarket.

This is an extraordinary hotel. We loved the architecture, the location on top of the cliffs, the minimalistic and artful style, the friendliness of the staff, the fantastic breakfast (one of the best and freshest I ever had in any hotel in the world), the billiard room and the cats.

When in doubt, book a room with sea view. This time around we had a room with garden view. While the view is just fine, the traffic noise is annoying at times. The sea view rooms are heavenly. You'll just here the sound of the waves.

The hotel offers free transfer from/to the airport, Moreover, it offers free transfer to visit Funchal and to several hiking areas. This was a big advantage for us. Also, they can organize a rental car for you, which is much more reasonable than at the big rental companies with higher price and a big deposit on your must-have credit card. Staff was very helpful all the time.

Regarding being a four-star hotel, furnishings a bit outdated, some small problem with the shower for example, but there were much more on the positive side.
