Octant Douro

Spacious room with stunning view. Kettle provided in our room, together with fresh bottles of bottled water provided every day. Very dog friendly - dog allowed practically everywhere, including the dining room, when treats and water bowl were forthcoming. Or perhaps our dog was just spoilt because she is old an quiet. Great location with picturesque riverside walks in both directions. Plenty of quiet outside areas where you could sit and read, both in and out of the sun. Two outdoor swimming pools with sun bathing/lounging areas. Wonderful breakfasts and meals in the restaurant. Private moorings for guests/ visitors boats, provided lots of interest.

Their pizzas (from the terrace cafe bar)- worst we had had for a very long time.

Fab three day stay in this lovely, peaceful corner of the world. The hotel feels very serene, decor is taupe and white throughout and the focus is very much on the stunning landscape and views. We had dinner at Raiva restaurant, which was absolutely delicious. Breakfast is really good too.

The only small quibble we had was that service was slow and occasionally incompetent (but always very friendly).

During my stay at this extraordinary hotel by the Douro River in Portugal, I was thoroughly impressed. The experience was nothing short of fantastic. The hotel's ambiance and amenities exceeded my expectations, and the restaurant, offering fine dining, was a culinary delight. Every meal was an exquisite experience for the taste buds. What truly made this stay exceptional was the staff—extremely pleasant and accommodating, going out of their way to ensure a memorable visit. Moreover, the breathtaking view of the Douro River from my window was simply spectacular. It added an unforgettable touch to my time at the hotel. I highly recommend this remarkable destination for anyone seeking a luxurious and delightful retreat along the beautiful Douro River.

Hands down, one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The location is stunning, the rooms are amazing, the food and service are all next level. The staff were absolutely wonderful, from reception to housekeeping to everyone in between, this hotel clearly prides itself on exceptional service and it shows. Additionally, while I would never describe it as a family resort, there were several small thoughtful details (like a tasteful play area adjacent to the main restaurant, a kids menu, child-s-zed bathrobes, etc) that made children feel very welcome and cared for. Truly, honestly, one of the best places I've ever stayed. Highly recommend, both as a romantic destination and for a family holiday.

My child accidentally ate a small peanut butter cookie served by the hotel (note: we had not informed them about the peanut allergy), and quickly had a severe reaction. The staff were incredibly helpful and genuinely concerned, offering support in every way possible. I really can't praise their reaction enough, I've never felt to genuinely cared for while staying at a hotel. Thank you!

The hotel is in a very beautiful setting, right on the river. We were upgraded to a river view room, which was a very nice surprise, and there were lots of little complimentary perks in the room: tea, wine, apples, sleep kits, hats etc. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful in arranging reservations at a vineyard for us. Breakfast spread was very nice. You'll most likely eat at both restaurants as there is not much else in the area without drive in the curvy mountain roads, but we enjoyed our meals.

Not too many downsides, but if I had to pick a few: pool is small and requires reservation, our room had a strong cleaner or air freshener smell (better than other smells, I suppose).

It was a pleasure staying here! My BF, our dog and I all enjoyed our stay. The highlights were our wine tasting with Bernardo, the indoor pool and the beautiful views surrounding the hotel.

There were a few things i think are worth mentioning: - We booked over Booking.com and mentioned in the chat with the hotel that we were bringing a dog. They did not mention until checkout that the charge was +40 EUR per night, per dog. I think is important to know upfront. - One complaint I have was with the experience in Ravia, the Michelin-star restaurant. It lacked the professionalism of a Michelin-star restaurant. We took the 4-course tasting menu (with wine pairing) and although the food was delicious, the timing was off for the service, with wine being served far too early so you were done before the food come, or, the food being served way before the wine. Was just all a bit messy....

The setting and views are beautiful, and the design of the hotel is lovely. Our room had a wonderful terrace with views of the Duoro River. Both of the hotel's outdoor pools have gorgeous views, and the indoor pool is beautiful also. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Nice surprises in the room at turn-down.

The cream carpet in our room had a couple prominent stains on it. There was an unpleasant (possibly damp) odor in the room. The toilet seat in our bathroom was loose. Would expect better maintenance/attention to detail in a hotel of this category.

Breakfast was great

Too much air conditioning in corridors with windows open. Waste of energy, aircon noisy and it wasn’t even needed. We had dinner there one night and somelier dissapeared and nobody brought us wine. That was very dissapointing. Also never any towels at the lower levwl swimming pool. When i asked for towels after one hour nobody came. Also - why would anyone put white carpet in a dining area?? Makes no sense. Lots of nasty stains that are not compatible with that level of hotel

The position and quiet position,along with the comfortable rooms.

Various positions in the inside of the hotel had a problem wiyh dampness,with the result that the carpets smelled. The garden in room we had,had not seen a tidy up in some time. The restaurants were good,but you got bored with the choices if you stayed more than few days. Maybe a daily special would help,or rotating the menus every three days. The snooker table needed recovering.

The suite Ribeira was enormous with great views to the river. 2 restaurants offering great food, cocktails and nice wines. The indoor spa facilities were very sophisticated. The pool is heated, a sauna and steam rooms were also amazing, with great views to the Douro river.

The location of the hotel is quite remote but you can literally spend days there without venturing out. First because the hotel is really nice, the views are stunning and secondly you can get your meals, beverages, use of the spa facilities and treatments so why go out? You will need a car if you want to explore. Expect to spend at least 40 min each way if you want to visit a winery or a castle nearby which was what we did.
