Hotel Mondego

Great location, friendly and professional staff, excellent rooftop view and bar with delicious cocktails. Very comfortable room with an extra large bed.

Parking was an issue. If you were driving to Coimbra, I wouldn't stay here. The hotel would do well to partner up with a local parking garage and offer guests discounted rates as part of their stay. We had to find our own parking as the 'available spots' free of charge are 3 in total, which were not available to us during our stay. There was no safe in our room so we had to lock our belongings in our bags. We also found it a little strange that reception staff kept asking our room number when we left in the mornings.

This place has new hotel energy! Everything is pristine and sparkling, and the staff put in a lot of effort and were super kind. Beautiful selection of tropical fruit and melon, cheeses, pastries, and espressos at breakfast. Cozy rooftop bar. Good room AC, and I haven't seen such a well-made bed in a long time, so kudos to housekeeping too. I liked the hotel and the location so much I stayed an extra night. The bus station is about a 15-min. walk on perfectly flat ground with some shade, not difficult at all if you arrive by bus instead of train.

There is some slight street noise at night on lower floors, but the windows easily block out most of it, so it didn't end up bothering me.

Location is excellent for exploring the town on foot - close to the river and shopping area but be prepared for uphill walking on cobbled streets when exploring- comfy shoes essential! Breakfast was good with buffet-style hot food in addition to continental breakfast. Cleanliness throughout the hotel is excellent. The staff are warm and friendly and very eager to help with anything. The rooftop bar is cosy and offers a wonderful view of the old cathedral and university on the hill.

There was no safe in the room. Evening food is limited to snacks and toasted sandwiches - a few more options would be nice for those not wishing to dine out. Very limited parking outside the hotel - if you’re lucky enough to get a space, there are about 3 places across the road where you can stay. However- not too much of a problem because there is underground parking very close by, and it’s quite easy to pull up outside the hotel to unload your bags before parking. We paid €50.20 for the duration of our 3 night stay - our travelling companions were lucky enough to park for free, roadside, opposite the hotel (🤬 🤣).

This was a good hotel, decent location with easy access to the old town and plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The staff were friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable, maybe just a little more firm than we'd like but not bad. The bar/restaurant on the top floor has a really wonderful view of the city, definitely worth going up there at least once. Breakfast was pretty good, plenty of options.

The bathroom was so small the toilet was almost in the shower area. We had to kind of climb around it to get into the shower, and it felt really cramped. From looking at pictures, it seems not all bathrooms are this cramped, but this was not a pleasant set up. Also, the curtains were decent but not quite enough to block out the street lights from coming in around the edges. I'd probably request a room that didn't face the street.

It was v clean and modern. V comfortable bed. I would definitely return just better prepared.

Parking is really difficult and don't expect to park that close by. We had to park across the river and beyond to get free parking. My room was on the left side with no balcony but a fab view of the city but I did ask for a quiet room and it was a bit noisy as I wanted fresh air so had to sleep with my window open. Plus I was under the rooftop bar so scraping chairs annoying. Would have liked to make tea but had no milk and same at breakfast as no normal teabags just fruit teas.

The hotel is well located and the room was comfortable. We also enjoyed the breakfast.

One reason I chose the hotel was because it had parking. Unfortunately, the parking area is very small and was full when we arrived. As a result we went down the block to find another parking area, which we did, but which was difficult to negotiate (very steep entrance and very narrow access requiring some backing and filling to get around corners and in and out of parking spaces). I was disappointed that the parking was not more available.

the stuff in the reception was nice and very welcoming! the shower , the bed and the view from the room were very good! The breakfast was very nice as well!

The fact that there are only 3 spaces available for the hotel guests to park (on the street in front of the hotel). When we decided to reserve the hotel we were looking specifically hotels with parking. It was said that there is one and that is why we picked this hotel at Coimbra. Unfortunately, we had to park on the street and pay for it (not much, but it is not very nice to worry about it during your vacation.

Very good breakfast with a lot of choices. There is a really nice bar terrace on the roof with a wonderful view of the town and historic buildings (see attached photo). The room was very clean and new and the bathroom had the best shower ever. Super friendly staff with excellent English who gave great tips on where to eat and where to go to hear Fado singing for free. We stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed it. There is no parking at the hotel but a cheap garage is close by.

It was on a busy street but the room was well sound proofed with the windows closed.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Mondego. The location of the hotel is perfect - so close from the train station, as well as from all major sightseeing points of interest in Coimbra. The location will allow you to do what's the best way to explore Coimbra - walking. The hotel room gave an excellent view and was very comfortable; due to an unexpected heat wave, I really appreciated a good, strong, adjustable air conditioning. Everything was new and perfectly clean. The staff was excellent, very approachable and welcoming.

The breakfast could have offered more options/better variety, but it is rather a minor worry, compared to the high standard this hotel offers overall.

The hotel was recently remodeled and is in great condition, all facilities modern. The room was nice, and was large. The WiFi worked very well. The location is excellent, right at the base of the old city, making it possible to walk everywhere. There is a small but very nice rooftop terrace bar with a great view of the old town.

The staff at the reception would sometimes mysteriously disappear and I would have to go looking for them (although I managed to find them within a few minutes).
