I can’t wait to return. The breakfasts were the best I’ve ever had in 30 years of business travel. Fresh ingredients, a cook on standby, loads of choices. The hotel is idyllic. The trees in the garden are stunning, the outdoor pool and seating perfect. We were upgraded to a suite with our own garden which was very well appointed. Lovely tiled bath and shower, huge bed, large mini fridge. The communal areas are stylish and feel like an extension of the bedrooms. So unlike many hotels which have great rooms but soulless corridors, staying in this hotel felt like staying in somebody’s private and grand estate. The hotel feels intimate while also providing space inside and out. The golf driving range was fun! It’s about a mile from centre of town which was perfect for us as we got loads of gentle exercise. If we hadn’t wanted to explore though the hotel and grounds and pools would have been enough. The staff operated as a team and were kind, skilled and proactive. I’ve seen some oddly negative comments here and I couldn’t disagree more.

I really can’t think of anything I’d change.

We arrived in the early afternoon and were immediately impressed by the historic property and the lovely park like location. The staff accommodated our need to have lunch even though the restaurant was about to close; the food was most delicious and the setting in the garden was beautiful. Our room was in a new building which also had a spa and both inside and outdoor swimming pools. The breakfast was quite excellent and the service terrific. We parked at the hotel and took a taxi to the visit the university area, which is a very special place. Driving in Coimbra is not easy and hence the ability to leave the car was most helpful.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was large, with a lovely view and very comfortable, kept at a perfect ambient temperature. The bathroom had a separate room for the toilet. The breakfast was extensive, with everything you could want and more if you asked for it. Exploring the hotel was a pleasure, as it is like a small Stately Home with dozens of charming, hidden areas between the different wings and separate gardens, a wooded area of hillside, golf facilities and a spa.

Well the wooden floor of the bedroom was a bit creaky in parts, but now I'm struggling to find anything else I didn't like. The walk into the centre, across the footbridge and along the riverside cafes and restaurants, might be a little far for some at 15 to 20 minutes, but we like walking, so enjoyed it.

There is a lot of history to this exceptional hotel. It is located in a very special location and has beautiful grounds and gardens. The house itself has a new and old part to it. All of it is simply stunning. Their staff is very attentive, the room was spacious, clean, and comfy. We absolutely loved the pool and spa area. The breakfast is exceptional. The town of Coimbra is very beautiful and interesting and we would’ve loved to stay longer. I can highly recommend this hotel. It also is a great value.

From the initial friendly and helpful welcoming we received , we loved our short stay here. We stayed in a first floor spa room with terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens with the added bonus of an open air concert on one of the evenings. A quiet city location yet a pleasant walk along the riverside to the old town and all the tourist attractions. On particular hot days, tip is to take a taxi in and up to the top of the old town, then meander back along the side of the river. Pool area was also super and a great way to relax after a full day sightseeing .

Loved being able to walk out of the French windows in the room straight into the beautiful gardens. The bed and bed linen were super-comfortable, like sleeping on a cloud.

We enjoyed our meal in the restaurant but did feel that maybe the chef was trying a little bit too hard say compared to French cuisine which is more established than Portuguese which still seems trying to find its feet. Lots of 'savoury with fruit' combinations and just one too many ingredients. My ravioli dish was beautifully presented but was the wrong side of al dente around the edge.

The staff was so nice and the hotel is immaculate. Ir is very historic. Ibwas here 23 years ago and wanted to come back. Loved the indoor pool at the spa.! The breakfast buffet was wonderful and included! Suzette , my massuesse, Pedro, the breakfast waiter and Pedro at the front desk were exceptional.

We had dinner at the fine dining restaurant. The service was great but the food was a disappointment. Fine food should be about flavor, aroma and texture, not ornamental. Big white plates with small portions that were more about art than taste.

The attention to detail is something I have not encountered at any other hotel in Portugal. The staff is professional, yet warm and personable. They valet parked my car, asked about my journey, after supper I returned to my room with the lights switched on and a chocolate on my pillow, and when I left received a bottle of water for the road. These are all small details that make a huge difference to the overall experience, as it makes one feel special. The setting, the history, and the story of Pedro & Inês all set this hotel apart. Without telling the staff that it was my birthday, they picked it up from my passport, and the next morning at breakfast I was surprised with a beautiful cake in the shape of a rose with a candle. That alone is testament to the attention to detail that makes this hotel special. A meal at their restaurant Arcadas is highly recommended. The food is simply exquisite, and it is a bit like eating works of art. Definitely a hotel that makes one feel like royalty, and in the process honour its extraordinary history.

Everything was perfect.

Wonderful staff. Professional and welcoming. Lovely old world hotel, with a circa nineties Reno/add-on. Good location… an easy walk across the river to the old town on the mount.

While charming, the property needs a substantial update, based on what our room fittings were like. Some obvious immediate maintenance required also. Booking.com and the hotel itself ranks as 5-star, while Google review ranking is 4-star. More like the latter, and over-priced for what it is.

Nice rooms with fantastic view with balcony on the side of each other with a door between. Amacing service on all levels. Food very good in restaurant and ok at breakfast. Liked very much the knowledge of the sommelier. Amazing to have a walk in the garden. We had som visits from relatives on the hotel and and the service from the staff was very good. We would like to come back to this hotel, maybe to try the spa since it was challenging to try this time with to children on 5 and ten. Thank you also for patience the staff had with the children in the restaurant :).

Little much use of air-condition on the common areas, especially restaurant.
