Hotel do Carmo

The location was superb, the staff helpful. The parking started weird, but that was an issue with the booking app not refreshing messages. On arrival I planned to quickly stop and pay for the parking, but this blew the fuse of the gentleman taking care of parking. He did not speak English and did not let me park anywhere, until the super helpful hotel staff helped out.

Pool is not heated on the top floor, I did not have wetsuit with me :) We did try but couldn't stay longer than few teeth-shattering minutes.

We wanted with my fiance celebrate a birthday at Madeira and therefore we chose the Hotel do Carmo in the main city of Funchal. And that was the best decision we could ever had! The hotel was super nice, located in the walking distance to the ocean, Marina and as well to the main shopping centre with all the little bakeries. As we had a vacation during the COVID situation and the shops were closing at 6 PM, we had the grocery store right behind the hotel, about 5 minutes walking, which was super handy and therefore we could enjoy our trip around the island longer. The rooms are not new, however very clean and tidy, the housekeeping did great job. What we liked the most about our room was the wonderful terace, where we spent almost every evening and enjoyed the ocean and mountain view at the same time! There was also a terace and the hotel swimming pool on the upper floor, where we could enjoy the sunsets with our newly favourites Brisa nad Coral beverages! Last but not least, the reception staff was amazing! We had a great exeprience even before our arrival, as they booked us an airport transfer, which was great and very punctual, and then we felt more than welcome even at almost 3 AM, when we arrived at the hotel. The front desk agent Tania was exceptional, she was always there for us, whenever we asked for help. She recommended us a few options to choose from the car rental companies (and it was great!), helped us with the early breakfast because of the early flight back home and as well recommended and booked us on the COVID test we needed, which was super close and therefore very conveninent. Once again, we would like to thank a lot all the Hotel do Carmo staff for a great experience, their lovely hospitality and for making our vacation so special. We will definitely return back in the future and recommend your hotel to everyone we know.

The staff and their service were really nice. They really tried to please us and always greeted us with a smile. The location was perfect, very close to the city center and the beach whilst being quiet and reserved. The bedroom is really simple, so don't expect luxury (but the price is really adjusted). The breakfast is good: a lot of fresh fruit, different types of bread and so on. Also, a good positive point was the rooftop and the swimming pool on there.

Overall this was a very good experience, so nothing to point out on this.

The hotel is really well located and a bit tucked away so it's not too noisy at night. My room was huge and very comfortable. The swimming pool was a nice addition, especially welcome on a hot day. The breakfast had a good variety, especially for cold items, the hot ones left a bit to be desired but I find that's often the way!

I did have a few ants in my room, I think a sweet had been left under the bed which encouraged them in. Nothing too awful though and the value for money made up for it.

Good price, location within a 10-minute walk from the total center of the city, friendly staff, welcome drink, clean room, tasty and rich breakfast included in the price of accommodation, swimming pool on the roof of the hotel with a nice view. I will recommend the hotel to friends who are going to Madeira.

My only objections are the bathroom - the window could not be opened and the old door should be replaced, otherwise everything was fine

The location was the best part. In central Funchal, close to everything. Breakfast was good. More than just bread and coffee. The room was clean and had an excellent balcony.

The sink faucet was difficult to use. It would stick so it was very hard to regulate the water stream. You would push and it wouldn't move, then suddenly it would blast. The big problem with the room was the lack of a refrigerator and an electric kettle./

The hotel is in a very good, central location. The seaside and city center is just 5 minutes walk, the shopping center is 3 minutes away. We really liked the rooftop pool with the showers. The staff is very kind and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel.

We missed a small cooler/refrigerator in the room (for drinks, baby food, leftover food, etc.). In the 4 single bed bedroom, the 4th extra bed was a spare bed that was quite noisy during the night even under a small kid. But these are only some minor remarks.

Amazing roof top pool in the centre of funchal ,spent every evening in the pool area watching the sun go down and the Town light up ,The staff are very friendly and the cleaners are meticulous, The area around the Hotel has loads of hidden bars in narrow streets well worth searching for ,definitely do the west island full day tour and the lift up to the top of the island is well worth it

Only stayed 4 nights 🤣🤣

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff was very kind. Our room was comfortable, we could sleep well. We were able to reach most attractions, cable cars, beaches, public transport etc. on foot. I liked the decoration of the hotel, the breakfast was very good with local fruits. In the evening we used the roof where we could see the hills and the ocean. The spectacular floral festival in Funchal was a nice surprice for us.

Everything was great! Our flight was leaving in the middle of the night and it was no problem after out check-out to leave out suitcases at the reception and we also appreciated being able to use the pool in the afternoon on our check-out day, amazing! Thanks to this hotel we spent a wonderful last day in Funchal Breakfast was delicious. Thank you!

We only had a fan in the room and no air conditioning, so it was hot at night. Nothing that can't be handled.
