Savoy Palace - The Leading Hotels of the World - Savoy Signature

The staff at this hotel really are exceptional and truly make the difference- lots of hotels could learn a lot from the Savoy Palace! From the moment we were greeted at reception we felt very comfortable and at ease at the Savoy Palace. We had paid for an upgrade and it exceeded our expectations when we arrived at the room- a real WOW to start the holiday! we found it impossible to find anything to fault with this hotel! The food here was excellent- huge choice at breakfast and nothing any trouble for the staff-again they made the difference. Service levels from them were exceptional across the whole hotel. the choice of eating at night within the hotel is vast- covering every palate. My wife is vegetarian and asked for one of the dishes from the Almeda menu altering to be vegetarian- happily changed it for her. The quality, choice and presentation of food and service at all the restaurants is almost Michelin quality- impossible to fault we would say! This is one of the few hotels we have ever said that we were sad to leave! and the final mention must again go to the staff- they ALL made this such a wonderful experience- we will definitely come back to both Madeira and the Savoy Palace and highly recommend it to anyone!

Only that we'd just booked a 7 night stay!.......next time it must be 10 days or 2 weeks!!

The design of the hotel is stunning, gardens and pool area lovely

Service was very disappointing for a hotel of that standard: - Not enough staff in the bars - Waiting staff that were not aware of standard drinks / delivering drinks to wrong table - Reception queues long - Wait for taxis long and unclear as to which taxi was for whom - Usually a hotel of that standard would have small touches such as offering a welcome drink/hot towel on check in - Night - Some of the reception, bar and breakfast staff generally not particularly friendly or helpful - Usually a hotel of this standard would approach you with a beach towel when you attended the pool We have travelled widely and stayed at many 5 star hotels and were disappointed with the service at this hotel in comparison.

We could never get through to reception. We had to use our mobiles to call internationally to the front desk. Also - the dining experiences/recommendations of food were not unbiased - they were solely to the most expensive food on the menu rather than what was actually good. This seems like a consistent thing amongst the restaurants which was quite dissapointing as we ended up ordering more food to satisfy us. Other people would have left and given the business outside of the hotel

We stayed in a Standard Ocean Room on the 8th floor and the view out to sea was beautiful. Very little noise from below and the balcony was a good size. Staff were very attentive and helpful We enjoyed breakfast in the hotel everyday which offered a wide selection and was generally tasty. Pool was clean and large

Some style over substance ..... Whilst the room was nicely styled they forgot when planning it to include any storage for your clothes. Luckily we were only staying for 7 days but we still had to leave half of our clothes in our case.

The breakfast is superb. The view of our room as well (we upgraded it to superior ocean view)

The kids room has no natural light. That in an island full of water all over, you don't get to have breakfast with a sea view. The fact that the early check in has been requested, paid and not granted. We had to wait a lot for the room. The staff were kind and returned us the money on arrival, once the room was not ready and offered us a nice gesture of allowing us to go to the spa. Still, i would expect a hotel of this category to be able to have the room ready on time, considering the request. When you spend three days on holidays, two hours of waste waiting for the room to be ready can be slightly disturbing.

I liked a lot the Pool side restaurant on the ground floor in general. But it could have been an outsanding experience if certain staff were more smiley and it took a little while get our order and food. I think maybe it was bad day. But, I loved the overall experience. It is important that the Savoy Palace takes care of its staff as that way they can take care of their customers. I am big believer in helping staff first to feel great, and their customers can feel amazing :)

We loved the Savoy Palace! From the moment we got out of the taxi and the doorman had our names on his list and greeted us warmly to checking out three days later this was a pretty much perfect stay. We entered the lobby (beautiful as is the whole property) and the front desk manager greeted us by name and took us to be checked in. The front desk team are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Our room (an ocean view junior suite in the 7th floor) was stunning… we’ve been so lucky to have stayed in some of the worlds most wonderful hotel rooms and this is right up there at to the top of the list. Big shout out to housekeeping (and Fernanda in particular) who keep the hotel spotless and to the grounds keepers… the gardens are immaculate. We ate in Pau Lemu and the pool restaurant twice… the food is great but it’s the lovely service… attentive but relaxed. All in all one of the nicest hotels and hotel teams we’ve stayed with in some years so thanks to everyone who made our stay something really special. We really appreciate it.

Breakfast was excellent, rooms are spacious and service impeccable. Lots of sun beds and amazing cocktails. Really nice restaurants in the hotel and nearby. There are always a couple of hotel staff near the reception happy to answer your questions so that you wouldn't have to wait if the reception is busy.

Buffett dinner is quite overpriced and not that good comparing to other hotels in the area. Used it once and opted for other restaurants in the hotel and nearby. No wonder those were quite overbooked. My advice - don't book half board. Reception will give you comprehensive advice and arrange reservation.

Very good facilities (the various swimming pool and sun bed areas, amazing gym), incredible breakfast, high level of service (including good turn down service at night). Amazing staff (from front desk to cleaning team). The must: they noted that my partner’s birthday was during the stay (probably took note of it during check in when we gave our passports) and they left a cake, a bottle of bubbles and a card in the room as a surprise - we were both extremely pleased of this nice gesture.

Not always very quiet as located in central Funchal (can be quite noisy at night if you want to sleep with windows open). Decoration is quite tacky/nouveau riche. You need to pay for car park space and access to the indoor spa facilities.

Staff are incredible - friendly, willing to go the extra mile and all seem happy in their work Amazing hotel - Fortunately we were able to upgrade to the Premium room and the service that you get is outstanding - personalised WhatsApp , no holding on the phone for various departments, everything available via WhatsApp Room styling is modern and contemporary and spoilt with a small high tea everyday. Views are stunning and breakfast in the Jacaranda room was first class. Even without premier service the hotel would still be attractive - many beautiful eating areas and the large swimming pool is a win for those with kids. The mattress, linen, bathroom were all fabulous I loved that we also had access to the Royal Savoy and waterfront to swim in the sea - so many different areas Tapas in the sports bar with live music was also great The location of this hotel is perfect and we found a lovely beach promenade walk and we enjoyed eating in the nearby town of Funchal at night - lots of atmosphere

Although they have many restaurants on the property many were empty at night - thing menu's are limited perhaps and maybe too pricey to compete with the many restaurants in Funchal. Perhaps they should have some kind of discount for hotel guests.
