Hotel Sete Cidades

My second time here & first choice for possible next time. Great location in a walking distance from city centre (marina & restaurants), shopping mall and cultural attractions - one museum and Jose Canto botanic garden are just around the corner, and so is e.g. self-service laundry. But the main bonus is the parking lot for hotel guests (for free), which turns the hotel into a hassle-free base for exploration of the whole island.

Sure, rooms are old and worn. But everything works and good prices compensate it well.

super clean and centrally located hotel. friendly and helpful staff. bed was comfy and bathroom was nice. can walk anywhere in Ponta Delgada from the hotel and the free parking is certainly an added plus. the rooms also have nice big desks for students or those who need to work

the hotel would really benefit from some basic soundproofing measures (carpet and some furniture in the halls, new doors). you can hear what goes on in the hallways a bit too well

The location of the hotel is excelent. It is on a small and quiet street. So a good night rest is quaranteed. At the same time, it is located in the centre of the city. Everything in the city is of a hands reach from the hotel: shopping, restaurants, cafes, museums and seaside promenade. Having a car on the island is a must. Ask the hotel about rental cars. They have a partner company and when staying at the hotel, you will get a better deal. Parking in Ponta Delgada can be a headache but do not worry! The hotel has it's own parking with plenty of spaces. So no worries about finding a place to park your car. The hotel staff are very warm, friendly and helpful. If in need of assistance, they will gladly help. The hotel had a rooftop terrace with a view of the city. It is easily accesible by stairs.

I had my doubts when I booked after reading some of the completely unfounded disparaging reviews on Tripadvisor. The property is lovely, well maintained and operated by the nicest staff I have ever encountered. I had a sunny, air conditioned room at the back of the building (balcony rooms are facing the very busy street on the front) with a wonderful view of the town, the sea and the surrounding mountains. FREE wifi was excellent. Breakfast was good, although the selection might stand a little improvement in terms of better breads, a variety of cheeses and meats. The entire hotel is older, thus lacking unnecessary extras like pay TV, card locks on the doors, and safes in rooms, but it had a lovely bathroom with plenty of hot water and a bidet, a desk for my laptop with plenty of electrical outlets close at hand, flatscreen TV with plenty of English language movie channels (no charge), and screened windows (rare in most of Europe) for the fresh air fanatics. Black out blinds are also provided. The crowning touch is a rooftop terrace with breathtaking sweeping views of Ponta Delgada and environs. There's a vending machine in the huge lobby area for snacks and drinks, too. For those renting a car or bringing their own, there's a huge, FREE, secured and monitored car park to the rear as well. Bearing in mind that this is a 2-star (official category) property, it's an absolute find and jewel. Those expecting the Ritz at bargain basement prices need to rethink their strategy or, better yet, not travel at all.

The location was great. The room size was huge.

The windows don't seal well, you can hear everything around you. The street was extremly loud every night. There could be more different choices of breakfast...some eggs, prosciutto, cereals...

The hotel is old, but if you need a simple and clean place just to sleep at night (while you explore San Miguel during the day) this a perfect option quality/price. If you are a person that loves to enjoy the hotel room and lobby, with beautiful furniture and decoration that might not be the best option for you. Very good location, near the centre and all main restaurants, free parking. The breakfast is very basic (hot drinks, milk, juices, yogurts, bread, cheese, ham, cereals, butter, jelly), but for the price you are paying I think it is OK.

Weak internet connection on the 3rd floor.

Lovely staff on reception were very helpful. Good value and nicer inside than outside, spotlessly clean room plenty of space, lovely toiletries. Excellent breakfast more than expected at that price.

Outside could do with a bit of cheering up but as mentioned inside is very nice.

The location was very central, while still being a bit removed from the louder areas in town. The staff really went above and beyond, especially Emilia who always gave us lots of recommendations for restaurants, ice cream shops and sites.

All was absolutely excellent, except breakfast. the Personal was really friendly and helpful. The loved staying in this hotel.

breakfast quality. there were is something wrong with it. I had a bad feeling in my stomach until one day I stopped use hotel breakfast. and it is strange that there weren’t any eggs. even boiled.
