Hotel do Mar

We stayed in a room with a lovely sea view, taking in the harbour with the ocean beyond. The balcony was spacious, including a table, chairs and sun lounger. It was also partially covered, providing shade and shelter from rain, if needed. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The building is interesting, with wide, light common areas and a fascinating rotunda at the top. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was perfectly acceptable. We liked the period (70’s?)style of the furniture and layout The waterfront area and the little town were both delightful, nestled in a cove below granite cliffs.

The bathroom fittings needed updating and this would then give a fresher, cleaner impression.

hotel do mar is a throw back to the time it was built reflecting the charm of that era - we were given an upgrade to a sea view room and we always enjoying looking out to the marina and ocean during our 5 days there - the breakfast included with the price of the room had many selections and we used the pool and hot tub one evening - staff were congenial and helpful - the town of povoacao is attractive with good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel - there's also a great picturesque trail starting from the beach to the nearby village of ribeira quente (or reverse) if you're into hiking

the only thing that bothered us was that the rooms weren't very soundproof and we could clearly hear other guests in adjacent rooms

Perfect location if looking for peace and quiet. Close to furnas :) Breakfeast offers anything you need and good quality. Beds were comfy and good size balcony looking to the ocean :) that was the best part! Beautiful view if you get a ocean view room.

Could hear someone in the room next to me snoring. Better sound insulation would be great but I understand its not a new build. Cleaning ladies left the aircon at 16 degrees and when we came back at 10pm the room was freezing.

The room was quiet and had a beautiful view right on the water. Breakfast was a nice variety and the hotel was within walking distance of the town center, including the grocery store. We were able to easily see the sites in the area. The waiters at both Bellisimo and A Requiem went above and beyond to provide great service.

The beds weren’t super comfortable but they were fine. Staff was nice but not overly helpful or friendly compared to other places we stayed.

We loved this hotel!!! It's in a really quiet cute little town. There's not lots going on but it has everything you need to have a lovely time - a couple of restaurants, a pool, a nice beach. The hotel is in a great location, right on the harbour so we could sit on the balcony and watch the world go by. The rooms were spacious and clean. The breakfast is nice. The pool area is good with a lovely and hot jacuzzi. We ate at the bar too which was tasty and a reasonable price. I would recommend this hotel!

Nothing to improve. The only addition that would have made our stay better was interconnected rooms - we had 2 twins for a family of 4.

The personell was very welcoming and very helpful with this and the other, always ready to help us. For the day we went bathing in Furnas, they lent us some older towels we could use with no worries at the baths (the water is brown and you don't want to use there the best stuff you have).

Povoacao itself is the kind of place that seems to be parmanently in a sleepy state, not much going on. There is also no decent restaurant in town, unfortunately. But Furnas ist only 20-25 minutes away.

Lovely rooms, traditional modern in style, had a fridge, air con and were cleaned daily. the pool and spa in the middle of the resort is lovely, no view though. the breakfast selection and staff were great.

there is not much going on, the bar doesn’t open till 5pm and the atmosphere is terrible. Some lighting, comfier seating areas and maybe live music would much improve.

This hotel is a pure gem! We loved it from the first moment - its architecture is unique and genuine - it perfectly complement lovely city of Povoacao. There are peaceful beach and harbour in front of the hotel. We saw many fancy and overcrowded hotels around the world, compared to them this one has true character and when you seek place to relax, this is it. :)

The room was clean and just as shown on the pictures online. The breakfast buffet was very good. The staff even offered milk alternatives when asked. There were plenty of parking slots available. The staff was very nice and helpful.

The outdoor jacuzzi wasn't working properly.

The staff - day and night, front desk and kitchen, maintenance and housekeeping - were all exceptional people. What a great team! The hotel is wonderful - great location on the waterfront in the small uncrowded village of Povoacao, easily walkable with restaurants and stores close by.
