Pousada Convento de Tavira

Pousada Convento is in a fantastic location very close to the castle, with a short walk up/downhill to the city centre. We loved the serenity of the courtyard on arrival where we sat and enjoyed a drink. The variety of breakfast options, the quietness of the pool area and, of course, the courtesy and attentiveness of staff. The large open spaces and decor around the hotel gave it such a regal feeling. We spent 9 nights here for my 60th birthday and we couldn't have picked a better stay for this occasion. It was made so much more special when I was greeted with cake and champagne left in our room. I booked a facial and massage which was worth every penny. We also ate a superb meal at the hotel restaurant one evening. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Thank you for making our stay so special.

There wasn't much not to like. Perhaps at least another cabana at the pool.

Hotel is in a great location, close to Tavira town, easy to get ferry across to the beautiful island, walking distance to bus station. Staff are super friendly, welcoming and helpful, hotel itself is beautiful with a lovely pool and grounds. Breakfast was plentiful, great choices, attention by Chef at all times.

The air conditioning wasnt very effective, it was particularly hot the week we stayed (high 30's) so maybe this didnt help. Other guests asked to be moved as had same issue. We found the tea facility in our room slightly odd, there were 3 teabags, no coffee, no milk and you had to pay 3 euros per teabag if you wanted any more. You could request a Nespresso machine but were charged 3 euros per pod! For a 4 star hotel found this to be disappointing. These were our only issues, everything else was wonderful.

The best place we stayed in the Algarve, it exceeded our expectations by far. One of the calmest and most easy going hotel experiences we have ever had. Even though fully booked, there was so much space and calmness to find in the building. Fantastic location to walk to all main attractions of Tavira. The pool area was an oasis in the middle of the town. Fantastic breakfast, with fresh regional products and specialties. Very good and friendly service from the staff and the most amazing setting to eat inside the courtyard of the old monastery.

There is nothing to complain about our stay, the smallest inconvenience was taken care of by the friendly and caring staff. If you're not a morning person it is best to take breakfast indoors, the courtyard chairs can make an awful noise. But the experience of dining there makes up for it!

Unique historic building, superbly converted as a high quality hotel. Excellent range of services and facilities. Ideal location for visiting the town of Tavira, whilst offering a quiet and tranquil location. The hotel was spotless and it was great to see that the local people took great pride in their lovely town.

It would help if the website described availability of tea/coffee facilities in all bedrooms as these appear to be only in superior rooms and suites. The website could also mention that beach towels are provided for guests using the pool.

We appreciated an early checkin and room upgrade, also the treats, chocolates and fruits. The views from the windows were lovely. The bathroom was great. The staff were really helpful and communicative. Because we left before breakfast we were provided with a picnic box and juice/water which was much appreciated.

We decided to have dinner in the Pousada and loved the ambience and being able to sit in the cloister area. Unfortunately we had to wait a very long time for our meal which was a pity. The waitress was clearly embarassed and apologised several times. It was not her fault and she did her absolute best. The food was great but by the time it came we were getting tired. Were there not enough staff in the kitchen? The bill was wrong when it arrived.

I liked the tranquility, closeness of hotel to different restaurants, places of historic interest all within walking distance and in at least one restaurant the cuisine was of a standard matching any of the top restaurants in London

In terms of hygiene and with Covid still in evidence the beds should have quilts (low tog) and blankets dispensed with- the matress was firm but pillows were brick hard and very uncomfortable- a complimentary bottle of water should be provided daily and more teabags

We really loved the property, the location, and the fantastic staff. Breakfast was amazing. Overall we would highly recommend and visit again.

The only little niggles were: the coffee with breakfast - sorry, but it was undrinkable; and the hard mattress with hard springs that bruised my hips and kept waking me up! I also think having some more information about the area, walks, sights etc. would be good (the tourist info in town was shut the first few days we were there). Obviously you can find stuff online but sometimes it helps to have real life copies! But really, minor niggles as I say, this was lovely and we’d definitely return.

The whole building is beautiful and the central courtyard stunning. We stayed in room 1 which had a Juliet balcony overlooking the park and chuch at the front of the building. Pool area is lovely and relaxing. Location is excellent for a short walk into the town centre, whilst remaining quiet. Staff went out of their way to cater for us and really made the whole stay wonderfully enjoyable. Breakfast was excellent offering, fresh juices, a huge selection of cold meats and cheeses with the choice of freshly prepared omelettes etc.

The breakfast excellent, opening hour very accommodating, at our age,82, we don’t need raucous music all the time nor loud aggressive behaviour. There was an essence of calm and tranquillity,possibly due to the cloister architecture and the building’s history. It was in an ideal spot for everything else in Tavira. The staff were more than helpful with a smile.

The power in the shower in the bedroom could have been stronger

The location was excellent, near Tavira castle. The hotel itself was a lovely building with old world charm and a nice relaxing pool area. It really was a haven. The staff were for the most part helpful helping with things like tuk tuk booking. The room was elegant and comfortable.

The hotel could have been a bit better with helping with restaurant bookings. I was just told to try my luck as apparently it is hard to get a booking this time of year, though I would have thought a hotel of this reputation would have had links to good restaurants where it would have priority to book. The breakfast was decent though there could have been more savoury vegetarian options. There was also an odd incident where they decided to change my mattress during the middle of my stay for no clear reason.
