Holiday Inn Birmingham City, an IHG Hotel

Location within steps of the New Street train stating was perfect. Room was bigger than expected. Both the room and the bath/shower were very clean. The included full English breakfast buffet was excellent. All of the staff, from the front desk to the breakfast room, were welcoming, pleasant, and helpful. Well done!

My room faced out onto the street. People and traffic noise was much more noticeable at night, which necessitated sleeping with the windows closed. Next time I might request a room that doesn't face the street.

The room was big and spacious. Check in staff was friendly. We decided to have breakfast at the hotel on our last day. Staff was helpful and friendly. Location was excellent, near the train station and bull ring. Lots of dining options.

Rooms were great, clean, comfortable, roomy. Location was great and not so great at the same time. Great for our destination of the O2 Academy. Breakfast was the same - great and not so great, excellent, tasty and lots to choose from

Location - not so great as the main road was very noisy until around 3:30am/4:00am, and the windows in the room did not keep the noise out - I actually had to check they were all closed it was so loud. Breakfast - not so good was that one of the two coffee machines ran out of 3 of 5 coffees on offer just after breakfast started at 7:30am, including cappuccino and latte. Also the website stated parking was available without booking - there were maybe 6 spaces at most, all taken or reserved!!! We ended up in the very expensive NCP next door.

Room very clean and comfortable. All staff I met were friendly and helpful. Although the hotel was quite busy I was not aware of background noise and slept well. Good view of the city from my window. Nice powerful shower. Breakfasts were amazing - fresh and everything clean and tidy. The one room service meal I had was delicious and promptly served. Location is perfect for central shops and rail station. Reception staff extremely helpful when I had to unexpectedly stay another night due to a Megabus travel failure (another story but please don’t ever book with them!!).

The lifts seemed a bit unpredictable - the display in one jumped from floor to floor with door opening delays. This was quite unnerving so I used the stairs from then on - bit of an ordeal to and from the 5th floor. A staff member told me that the lifts break down a lot and sometimes people can get stuck.

The room was fantastic and the bed was huge! & very comfy! The best breakfast I've had in a hotel. The staff were all welcoming and accommodating. Will definitely stay here again.

I ate in the restaurant twice during my stay. The first time, the food was hot and service was quick. The second time it wasn'r very warm, drinks were forgotten and service was slow despite only having three tables eating in the restaurant. The restaurant tables are situated directly next to the door out to the carpark at the rear so every time someone walked in/out we ended up freezing. Also, when ordering through the app there is no way to remove the "discretionary" service charge which makes an already expensive meal exceptionally pricey.

The Hotel was conveniently located as I was going to a concert in the City Centre which finished late. Being on the 8th floor, the view was fantastic both in the day and at night. The room was clean and bright but the best feature for me, was the ‘Desk’. As I travel with my laptop and use it a lot, I hate the little coffee table that most rooms provide. This room actually had a great set-up of which, the desk was used a lot. I slept well on the comfortable bed and the bathroom was adequate for a single traveller although, the shower didn’t work all that well but, at least it was clean. It also had the small coffee bar and fridge for my bottle of wine. Breakfast was a self service all you can eat with everything from cereal and toast to the full English, of which I had everything and thoroughly enjoyed. From the moment I walked into the reception area to booking out, the Hotel staff were very helpful and professional so I would recommend this Hotel within the budget range of which it is marketed at.

The curtain’s were coming off the rails slightly, but for one nigh it didn’t spoil my comfort.

Usual options for breakfast. All presented well. Some of the ‘hot’ food was not very warm, but most was fine. Staff were very welcoming, and showed us where everything was on the first day. Room was good, spacious, with a modern bathroom and a great shower. A good hairdryer, but strange that there is not a mirror near a power point! Location was good for what we needed. Very central, near the railway station, shopping centre, and a half hour walk from Edgbaston cricket ground.

A mirror near a power point to be able to dry your hair in front of a mirror would be helpful

The location was perfect, the staff was incredibly helpful. We turned up to the hotel around 11am and did not expect a room to be ready and for them to be able to check us in there and then. The hotel bed was the best I had for the price, the pressure of the shower was good too. The staff was incredibly helpful over breakfast and was meeting and greeting all guest with a smile. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and I would 100% come back.

If I had one, it would be that the bathroom was a little dated and could do with an update. A few broken cracks in the tiles, the two way door was a little odd as the person on the bed could see you in the shower, although it was a king size room so suppose it doesn't matter.

Breakfast was really good. Room comfy and big enough for one person. Very comfortable bed. I would come back if I need to stay in Birmingham.

Flickering lights (I heard another lady has the same problem in another room). Small but annoying - there is no plug by the bed, so you have to charge your phone across the room. Staff who are friendly but too much. No help with your suitcase to your room or doing the extra effort when you come with a question or request. Also, the last night I stayed there were no hot water in the shower.

Late set up of breakfast in the morning which opened late Hotel entrance frontage was a little unfriendly and exposed clients to city revelers, opportunists and beggars at night Frontage entrance was very dirty sticky and used to urinate by passing revellers at night.
