stayed the weekend in room 6 and from the moment we stepped inside checking in until the moment we left this morning was nothing but amazing! the staff there go absolutely above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and do anything and everything they can for you! the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD!! completely faultless! didn’t know what to expect with such a last minute booking and saw how cheap it was compared to everywhere else but it’s turned out to be the best choice of hotel we’ve ever picked! will certainly be making a visit back there soon already miss the place and the people! keep up the incredible work

A superb location at the end of a road in the middle of a very quiet village. Rooms well equipped and comfortable. Always spotlessly clean. The 7th century church opposite the pub is worth a visit, it's the oldest in the UK. Visitors from as far as New Zealand according to the visitors book. Some lovely walks along the river Wear which is a short stroll from the pub. Great selection of meals in the evening and all very tasty. Breakfast choice is made the evening before which means its ready as soon as you arrive. Always my choice if staying in the area.

Limited space in the car park, but plenty of parking on the roads surrounding the pub. TV reception kept breaking up at times.

The Saxon inn is exactly as described on the website. It is furnished to a very good standard, with the furnishings being of good quality too. A Warm welcome from the staff, superb room, with an extremely comfortable bed, as well as good pillows. Bedding and towels matching the room decor as opposed to the standard hotel white, creating a warm homely feeling. Competitively priced, and has a good varied food menu. The Saxon inn is situated in a quiet village surrounded by countryside, it has a lovely terrace bathed in sunlight, where you can sit, eat, drink and watch the world go by listening to the gentle music from the bar. Excellent value for money. I strongly recommend The Saxon inn, me and my husband didn't find one fault!

There wasn't anything we didn't like, we cannot fault it.

Just an all-round excellent customer experience. Our room was lovely and beautifully clean. A real 'wow' when we first entered it. The staff were really friendly and helpful. would not hesitate to recommend and would definitely look to stay there again when back in the area.

There was a live band playing in the bar, which was situated directly under our room. The staff did advise us of this when we checked in so we were aware of it. They did say that they would finish by 10.30pm which they did. It couldn't really be helpd but at least we were warned about it upon our arrival.

Greeted by a friendly lady in the bar and shown through to reception to check in. Room very well equipped, spacious and clean. Nice size bathroom with good shower. Everything I needed had been provided and more. Nice little extra touches like face flannels, tasty biscuits and hot chocolate. One criticism would be the fact you have to ask for fruit flavour tea, but only a very minor point. Dined in the pub both nights and the food is excellent. Tried the home made chicken Kiev the first night and chicken skewers the second and very much enjoyed both. Breakfast has to be ordered the night before with a selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt and pastries also available. There’s a good cooked selection which was very tasty and prepared fresh. So much better than the usual hotel buffet offerings. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will return again when in the area.

The car parking is a bit confusing and could do with some markings to show spaces. Ordering breakfast the night before is not ideal as you may change your mind in the morning.

I have stayed here on two separate occasions now for work, and have just booked to come back and stay with my partner for the weekend. The rooms are incredibly nice, although not huge, the furniture is arranged really well and gives you a real home-from-home feel. Everything is super clean, and there are great little touches like a sleep well packet on the bedside table with an eye mask and ear plugs (although the rooms are very quiet and the curtains good quality), a really good quality towel in the bathroom, robes on the back of the door, Netflix access e.t.c. The pub downstairs is nice, as are the staff and the few locals I met, and the food is excellent. All reasonably priced too. Lovely small village with a 7th century church in the centre, and a very short walk down to the river. Although a small village, it is actually only a two mile drive to a big Tesco/Starbucks and such.

We only stayed for one night and were welcomed as if we were old friends although never been there before. We stayed in room 9 which was spacious and very comfortable with everything you could need. We had lunch on arrival, dinner and breakfast all of which was delicious and cooked to order so was fresh and hot. A very well stocked bar with friendly staff. Will definitely be going back and for longer next time.

Absolutely nothing to put in this box.

Having stayed a number of times and looked forward to a lovely evening meal and breakfast, unfortunately we found the standard of catering had dropped noticeably my steak was mediocre at best my partners scampi was a poor quality product, the batter holding all the oil it was fried in and the oil smelt past its best, breakfast too seemed mainly deep fried and again the smell of old cooking oil making it unpleasant, I know Paul is no longer in day to day charge, get well soon however the staff are as attentive as ever, and the new manager was great even offering my partner her shower when the one in our room proved faulty, but on this stay the catering was found wanting, we will stay again on the strength of the staff and the overall standard of the accommodation and management but will eat elsewhere

This place was lovely. The hotel itself is a gorgeous little pub with a restaurant and only has about 6 rooms. The staff were delightful and couldn't do enough to accommodate me. Nothing was any trouble. I requested breakfast for 07:30 and it was delivered to my table exactly on time. Will definitely be staying here again.

The sink area in the bathroom was quite small but that is the only slight negative I can think of.

Breakfast plentiful and varied. You chose it and when. They served it hot and in time with cheery faces. Lovely surroundings opposite a church built by the Saxons around 680 AD. And.well placed for touring the upper Wear Valley. Rooms spotless and well furnished. Staff friendly, pleasant and helpful. As were the locals.

The Sunday beef. Otherwise nothing really. All good
