Overnight stay recently on way to Scotland. What a great place. Man behind bar so helpful on arrival showing me where to park. Double part of triple garage all to myself behind hotel - and free! Room was warm, comfortable and very clean and nice decor. Ate at recommended restaurant Zen, a fab Thai restaurant 2 min walk away and returned to Victoria Inn for rest of evening as found bar staff and locals so friendly and full of chat. Had a lovely evening. No breakfast here, but not an issue, as lovely 5 min cobbled street walk into city Centre where there are lots of places to eat. We went to Vennels for breakfast and would recommend. Durham City is a beautiful place and had a lovely stopover. Would highly recommend the Victoria Inn. It’s in a great location, away from town noise but close to walk in, family run, they’ve been there decades and know their art, so friendly, nothings a trouble and full of character - as is this Victorian pub. Will definitely stay again.

Great central location with a lovely walk over the bridge into town. Fantastic room, lovely decor, Lovely fresh smelling bed lined and towels. Good black out shutters and blind for long summer days. Literally everything we needed for a comfortable night in Durham. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice to be shown to our private, free off road parking too. Would definitely return!

A little noise from the pub below but really not much. Earplugs helped!

Rooms are adjacent to a great old-style pub with friendly landlord. The room was comfortable with a good bathroom and really powerful shower as well as a bath with lashing of lovely hot water whenever needed. Large fluffy towels and a very comfy bed; also adequate wardrobe and drawer space. Location was good with a 10 min walk to Durham City centre, over the foot bridge. Having free parking spaces was a big bonus as parking in Durham is difficult.

We knew in advance that breakfast wasn't included but it would have been nice to have some biscuits to go with the tea/coffee provided in rooms. Also the excellent shower was located over the bath which did feel a bit slipply getting in and out (some of us over 70's aren't quite as agile as we would like to be these days) so a non-slip mat or grab-rail would have been helpful. Room is on a main road so naturally is a bit noisy but that's the price for being close to the centre.

Walking into one of the most local pubs in Durham might have been intimidating, but you quickly realise that it’s one of the very few best and original ones left. The rooms are really well considered and the location is fantastic. Great crack from everyone working the bar and an awesome place to stay.

10am checkout is on the earlier side but super kind to not have to rush out of the parking space.

Location great and very handy for town. Staff were very helpful on arrival and departure. Room was lovely and big and really clean and comfortable.

There is a beer garden at the back and there was a student party nearby overnight. It did not affect my sleep, and guess you have to expect this staying in a pub..

A lovely traditional pub downstairs and comfortable room with everything we needed. The house-keeping staff were very friendly and asked if we needed anything additional. Everyone was very accommodating of our rather large dog and she lapped up all of the attention! The room was clean and tastefully decorated. We were able to leave our car in the car porch which was a bonus so near to the city centre.

Wish we had found this place sooner as our daughter is graduating this year!

All the staff we met were really friendly and helpful, it was clean, tidy and comfortable and the location was quiet as well as being just a short walk from the centre of Durham. Well stocked refreshments tray, with tea coffee, bottled water and biscuits

We had 2 rooms for our family one of which was right at the top of the building. This itself wasn't a problem but it had the sloping roof and the shower was over the bath, so you couldn't stand right up if you wanted a shower!

We stayed in the top floor family room which was of good size with lots of pillows and cushions in varying firmness levels! There was a kettle with enough supplies to make coffee or tea and some biscuits which is replenished on a daily basis. The room was cleaned everyday and towels changed on request. There are nearby garages to park your car. The staff are very friendly.

There is only a bath in the family room and no shower due to the height restriction I suppose.

It was very clean, quiet, comfortable beds and simple but lovely decorated room. Happy with the hairdryer and the watercooker/tea/coffee and the wallpapered cupboard was a lovely surprise. Friendly owner, parking nearby and the walk to the village centre a joy and not far. nice and light bathroom. nice bath, no real shower other than a handheld one.

a little breakfast would have come in handy since we had to leave quite early in the morning before any breakfast places around the corner were open. Instead, I had a nice early morning walk into town and bought some 'picnic' in the local supermarket.
