Staff were lovely, very attentive. Was given a choice of room on check-in, in case the booked one didn't suit. room was comfortable. shower good, albeit the shower cubicle door opening a bit small for a large framed person. Evening meal i had was excellent. Good choice of seating both inside and out.

Breakfast time was limited for a work stay (0830-0930 only), meaning a delayed work start. Wouldn't stay again for work in the area, but would definitely stay again for leisure. TBH, I'm sure if I asked for an early breakfast the hosts may have obliged.

My goodness, I don't know how to say how amazing, brilliant, fantastic this hotel, pub was. It has been one of the most amazing places we have ever stayed. The kindness thought was amazing. There was smaller Karen and taller Karen. We ordered food in evening and kindly bought it up to us. They allowed me breakfast in be next morning. If we go Durham again, which is beautiful, would stay there and just get a taxi into city. Only 2 miles. Well done this amazing place xxx

Everything was lovely

Spotlessly clean. Jasmine in the evening and Karan in the morning were very welcoming. Comfortable beds. Room 6 on the top floor has a lovely seating area (2 chairs) and low table where the 3 of us could have our takeaway ( we arrived after 8pm when the kitchen closes - not a problem as we knew this in advance). Room 6 has a bath with shower and lots of character with its low beams.  Room 2 on the 1st floor has a shower and 2 single beds make a large comfortable double. We liked it here and are going to stay here again next year. Its a good stopping point when travelling up to Scotland

We only stayed here for one night but wished we could've stayed longer. The Avenue is where we'll always be staying from now on. Everything was just perfect. The breakfast was to die for. Perfectly cooked and the produce of the food was so tasty, obviously the best products. Karan and Peter were so welcoming. We don't need or want to go anywhere else now. We went by car but since there's a bus stop directly over the road and the return bus stop being about 20yards up,we decided to take the 10min bus drive into the centre. The whole of downstairs but beautifully decorated for Christmas too . This place is 100% and more the place to stay.

Nothing whatsoever.

Karen and her staff were brilliant from the time we arrived until we left. Karen even rang us up after we had finished the Great North Run to see if we were OK and to say that as the kitchen would be closed by the time we got back, if we wanted a takeaway then she would sort a table, plates, knives and forks out for us and we could eat in comfort in the restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble for her

Nothing. The whole place, Karen and her staff were brilliant

We last came to the Avenue back in 2020, and decided to revisit as it has now reopened under new management. We stayed for 3 nights, bed and breakfast. I have to say, I was not disappointed. Both Karan and Peter are the perfect hosts - very helpful and attentive. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed in room 6 - which was on the top floor. It was very comfy and spacious - although the beams were a bit low, but that’s the compromise for the spacious room. It also had a bath & shower, which we used both, as the bath was divine after a hot day walking around. I we had an excellent sleep, the bed was incredibly comfy, and the room comes with everything you need (coffee making facilities, hairdryer, tv etc) The food is superb - great taste and portions we ate on an evening (I highly recommend the Gammon 👍) and I had the full English breakfast, which was perfect. Would we come back? Absolutely! Would I recommend The Avenue? Without a doubt. We will definitely be back again. Thank you to all at the Avenue - our stay was relaxing and enjoyable 👍

There was nothing not to like.

Very clean and you can see the owners are working very hard to keep the rooms well maintained and serviceable. Great location only a few minutes drive into Durham city. Lovely breakfast and very friendly helpful staff who catered for our every need. We would love to come back and stay at The Avenue again :)

We should have noted that our room was in the roof space with limited head room, and should be avoided if you can't manage two flights of stairs.

Nothing was too much for Karan to do for us. The staff were accommodating and pleasant at all times. Karan went above and beyond. Even ringing us to see if we needed food after doing the Great North Run, she then organised for us to have a chinese takeaway - her partner collected it and they provided a seated area and all cutlery in the dining area. Her communication was excellent and she was lovely to talk to.
