Exceptionally nice room in the very recently finished apartment building next to the main pub - I suspect this may have been an upgrade. We had three meals over the weekend and each of them was outstanding. The pub has a really nice traditional atmosphere while the outside area, at least in good weather, has a Med-style pavement cafe vibe. This is clearly a go-to destination venue for people in the area, and quite right too.

Two or three of the staff were clearly very new and didn't know the answer to basic questions. That said, nothing was too much trouble and the standard of service is top-notch. The water took a long time to run hot in our top-floor room, and it's very close to Teesside Airport so you know all about it when planes are taking off. We ended up spending more than £400 for two nights and three meals. Definitely worth it but it's not cheap.

From the outside The Devonport looks like just another decent pub with accommodation. It is only on entering the bedroom (Room 5 in our case) that one grasps immediately that this is a gem. The very clean room was very tastefully decorated with a fine view over the adjacent park. Breakfast, indeed all the meals we had there over our three days, were excellent, so much so, that we invited our nearby family to join us for breakfast on two occasions. My brother also hosted a table of 15 for a superb Sunday lunch there. In short, we know The Devonport's food and it is very good indeed. It is clearly popular with locals - not surprising, given its idyllic location with outside seating overlooking a park leading down to a river.

There was nothing that we didn't like. All the staff were really friendly and obliging. Everything in our room worked. We'd return in a heart beat.

The Hotel was a little hard to find as there were a lot of roadworks close to Darlington on A66 and the sat-nav kept bringing me back to a road that had been closed off. We eventually took an alternate route to end up at the Hotel. This had nothing to do with the hotel but anyone else travelling to this destination should be aware. Check-in was very quick and we were shown to our very spacious room with nice views from the window. The room was very clean and comfortable and we had a very peaceful sleep. We ate dinner at the hotel and the food was delicious. Breakfast was wonderful and Julie made sure everything was to our liking and made us aware of the many local areas to visit. Not having enough time on this trip we will definitely visit the area again using the Davenport as our base. Thanks Julie and all the staff.

There is nothing negative I can say about our stay at the Davenport.

The staff were all wonderful, the entire place was spotlessly clean and you could sense that it was run properly -no half measures or "that'll do" it was wonderful. The food is worth going for on it's own! They catered for my very specific dietary requirements without me having the say - there were suitable choices on the menu. Make sure you book a table as it is popular with locals too. Our 6yr old felt very at home with his sofa bed. Parking was easy out front. Breakfast delicious as dinner was. Restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. Shower was hot and powerful. Family room was large compared to big chain hotels.

Having to leave! Perhaps a handle somewhere to help getting in/out of the bath/shower would be appreciated by some guests; but for a night or 4 you would not be disappointed with anything.

The hotel is in a nice quiet village, rooms are good and the staff are friendly and helpful. I arrived after they had finished serving dinner on the first evening but they still made every effort to provide me with food. The meals were very good through my stay.

The baths with overhead shower in the rooms were very slippery and could easily cause a fall

Breakfast was very nice, served with a smile, and a great coffee. The room was warm and comfortable with a nice view. The staff were very friendly. Parking was very easy and convenient.

Their shower technology is "hi tech" and works fine but lacks the ability to alter the flow rate of the shower which I find a bit annoying ... it was not a big deal. The room was large, clean, and comfortable

Choice at breakfast wa excellent. Staff were friendly, polite and very helpful. Bed very comfortable.

The bathroom was a letdown. Hand basin was totally impractical. The radiator was not connected to heating ipes. The bath was slippery without a rubber mat, there was no bath rail to aid getting in and out of bath. You could not fill the kettle from the basin, and the mixer tap for bath fell off. These comments were passed on to the duty manager, who said she would address these with the owners. Evening meals were the same on consecutive days, and we overheard a couple complaining that there was nothing vegan on the menu.

Excellent stay at this well appointed hotel, in a quiet location. Large, bright bedroom and new bathroom, all very clean. Good choice of cooked breakfast options.

I would have preferred access to a continental buffet alongside the cooked breakfast, although continental options (for example fruit) were available on request.

Quiet location in the countryside. Apartment great for family of 4. Newly renovated, so very clean and free from any wear & tear.

Only two bath towels provided for the four of us - I should have asked for more, but we were here for a funeral, so I had my mind on other things!

Wow. What a most enjoyable stay (room 5) Spotlessly clean, (cleaner than a 4* we stayed at in early July21 where we paid a lot more than the Devonport charge) comfortable bed, fresh clean decor, awesome shower, neat functional furniture, fresh and airy room with good ventilation. Staff that were personable and attentive without being intrusive. Being a pub/restaurant we were concerned about noise but even though our open window was overlooking the outside seating area it was never a problem. All in all we will put this establishment at the top of our list the next time we are in the North East.

Absolutely nothing, although it did rain a little, but I don't think The Devonport can fix that!
