Loved the friendly staff. The room was large an the bathroom was amazing. Also the poducts they provided in the bathrom were excellent. We had dinner the night we arrived an it was a sophisticated menu. The food was wonderfully cooked and presented. The wine menu was also very good. I also appreciated the staff made tea and coffee for family friends who visited us on a Monay morning. They also have a lovely outdoor area and a large garden for children to run around in.

We had no problem sleeping but be aware that this property is close to busy roads if you are a light sleeper.

I was travelling solo for business on Valentines day and staff set me a table in the lounge/bar area so I wouldn't have to sit in the restaurant. There was a pianist which was lovely and the food was delicious. The staff were really helpful and friendly - which I always appreciate as a a solo female traveller, my request for a room with a bath was accommodated and I cannot fault the service I received.

The hotel isn't usually open at the beginning of the week which is when I do the majority of my travelling to the area :(

A beautiful hotel steps from stunning scenery in North Yorkshire. Staff all friendly and helpful, delicious breakfast, a phenomenal restaurant downstairs (must try!) and the loveliest sitting room/lounge with two fireplaces. We were extremely comfortable and I'm sure will be back in the summer to enjoy the beautiful sun room and terrace. Great temperature control in the room, a lovely shower head.

Bedding in our room was on the firmer (or older?) side though this wasn't disruptive to sleep. Certainly won't deter us from a return visit.

property was wonderfully clean and staff were great. decor was traditional and lovely. breakfast was tasty and plentiful. room was very spacious, air con was excellent and tea and coffee facilities were spot on although we did not use them. bathroom was clean, water was hot and shower was powerful.

the mattress was not comfortable. likely a personal thing but it felt flat. however, other bedding was lovely. duvet and pillows were great, linen was spotless! the location is somewhat noisy, worth noting but - to be expected given the location but the hotel itself is silent! very peaceful.

Booked this for a friend who was photographing our wedding, so didn’t stay myself. Everything according to her was great. One minor point, both she and I had tried to contact the hotel in the days prior to the stay and the phone was never answered. I visited too to check the arrangements and no one was there. If it was closed then not a problem but please make sure your answer machine says this as opposed to helping other guests!

It's a lovely renovated old country house with attached stables that serve as a bar. Obviously got an interesting history - but none of the staff seemed to know! In spite of being between two roads, the soundproofing was excellent - we had a soundless night. We stayed in an up-stairs double; actually two floors with the spacious bathroom/toilet up-stairs. Great bathtub with loads of hot water. Very good, freshly-cooked breakfast included. We had an evening meal; lovely dining rooms downstairs. We had two starters and two mains - freshly cooked and well-presented. Prices weren't bad considering the venue.

Nothing really. It was a very pleasant stay.

Whilst the location was on the motorway, there was no noise at all which was great. The room was fantastic, we stayed in the Coach House. Everything was nicely decorated and the bathroom/shower/bath was huge. The food was also really nice as was the atmosphere of the restaurant. We really enjoyed sitting at a table by the fire, it was super cosy. Breakfast was also really nice.

TV was a bit outdated, but not a deal breaker at all. Because our room has stairs in it to access the bathroom, there was a security light. However I like to sleep with complete darkness and found this to light up the room too much. Food and drink was a bit more expensive than expected.

It was my first visit to the Tontine - despite having driven past it for years during my working life... The beautifully appointed room complete with roll top bathroom was extremely good value for money... being "shown to my room" was a lovely touch and both members of staff I encountered were thoroughly charming.

I couldn't get the Nespresso machine to pierce the coffee pods but it wasn't the end of the world... I boiled the kettle and had tea instead - I'm sure if Id asked for help, something would have been done about it.

staff were very friendly, lovely decor, lovely big bath and beautiful view from the bedroom window, lovely l'occitane toiletries and great breakfast.

the cleanliness in the room and breakfast area could have been better, a lot of black mould on shower tray grouting and shower door hinges, cobwebs and dust on light fittings and window seat full of crumbs in breakfast area which was a little gross to see whilst eating breakfast. good location for travelling up and down the country but the extreme closeness to the road does make it noisy and effects those beautiful views which is a shame. There was also a key situation in which my room key was missing and I was given a master, which meant I could get anywhere but I was also worried someone could get into my room with a number 1 key! I was also called later about the key so that hadn't been communicated to staff as to what had happened with the key situation

Always wanted to stay here having driven past so many times and reading about due to it being famous back in the 80s when there was very little restaurant culture round here. Only one night booked as visiting relatives. Loved the country house feel down stairs and the room was great (comfy bed, soundproofed windows, no road noise at all) with a fantastic upstairs bathroom. (Note to ask first if your mobility is not good). Evening meal - though the restaurant was very popular on a Saturday night the service was good. My wife declared the duck to be the best she'd ever had, bearing in mind she has eaten her way through an awful lot of French ones. Nice wines, very reasonable bill. Recommended. Carlos was very good spotted we'd booked sat night to stay and Sunday to eat and rang me beforehand. Also ever present and helpful during the stay.

Front entrance is a bit dated (by that I mean 1970s) but you only see it once ! Rear aspect and garden are lovely.
