Apex Grassmarket Hotel

The hotel is situated in The Grassmarket and is very convenient for all the attractions of Edinburgh. The hotel is busy but there is plenty of space and lleisure facilities. All the staff were welcoming. polite and friendly. Our room was well appointed and very clean and comfortable. The restaurant, which is on three levels, provides a good choice of the food. The breakfasts were excellent although they were partially self service.

We were initially allocated a room on the first floor which was hot and noisey. We managed to get a room change to the fifth floor but not until the following day. This room was quieter and cooler but smaller that our original allocation. There are only two lifts and one was broken for a couple of days. There is no air conditioning in the rooms. The restaurant is on three levels and as most of the breakfast was self service you have to go up and down stairs icarrying food f you are not on the main level, The overall cost of the room.

We wanted a castle facing room and we got exactly that !! Fantastic view ! Location is bang in the centre of the action near Edinburgh Castle! Reception Staff were every so helpful and went out of their way to guide us to the attractions. The young girls at the reception never batted an eyelid before carrying our heavy luggages up the stairs (very grateful as my wife has had cancer surgery and its "no lifting" for her...and I have an old ligament tear in my wrist). Service Desks were warm and friendly. Will strongly recommend this hotel for their fantastic location and excellent customer service!!

The design of the bathtub/half glass wall was an odd one. As water would spill out of the tub everytime one took a shower. Except for this design flaw, no complaints at all.

Apex Grassmarket is in the ideal location for exploring Edinburgh! My room was clean, well-appointed and very comfortable. The staff at the Apex were friendly and so kind. The Grassmarket itself was always bustling and full of fun. I happen to be there during The Fringe and the Apex was a buzz with shows, people and positively radiated with warm welcomes and laughter. Once in my room, which was on floor 1, the sounds and shows being held in the hotel were not heard. It was a great time to be at the Apex!

I cannot think of anything that I didn't like about my stay at the Apex.

You cannot beat this location. Everything is on your doorstep. Ideal for a city trip. We had a beautiful castle view from our room. Staff were friendly and helpful upon arrival. We had drinks & snacks in the hotel bar on our first night and bar staff were so accommodating. Breakfast was nice with good selection. We didn't have time to use the pool but great to have that option there.

Unfortunately, a person in our group had mild food poisoning on final night. Completely unrelated to the Apex hotel.They were still feeling very unwell at checkout time. We totally understand a quick turnaround time  on rooms is needed for the day ahead but not only was this person not afforded any extra time in room to recover/rest, it was made clear they weren't welcome to rest in the lobby area either. It felt a bit heartless.

Good location... Plenty of pubs and shops around hotel, nice decor, very presentable and welcoming The amounts of added extra in room with tea coffee biscuit and offer of fresh milk brought to your room is a lovely touch as well as the bathroom items Nice spacious clean welcoming cosy hotel room

To be honest it's very hard to pick fault, these are my opinions if I'm going to be picky Few spots of what I think is bleach on the carpet, to be honest it was very to see as the pattern of the carpets almost made it blend in And maybe, again me being ultra picky... There slight crack in sink and bath looking worn, but all still in good working order, just don't look as smart as they once did. Hairdryer was also bit temperamental but thankfully i had done the majority of my hair so it wasn't a problem.

Great breakfast choice, well cooked and presented. The staff were very polite and helpful, with the Aussie lad really a stand out for service.

In general the temperature of the hotel was very warm. The room temperature can be controlled with the thermostat or open the window as we did. However, opening the window exposed you to some very poor drunken scottish student singing, for several hours through the night, like a bad karaoke. Solution, ensure your room temperature is set well before you go to bed, keep the window closed, and let the soundproofing do its job.

Room, staff, location, comfort, cleanliness. This was our third stay at this hotel. We love the location as it's central to places we like to walk to. Will stay again when we return.

We had noisy neighbors down the hall over the weekend who kept waking us up. We didn't complain at the time, but one morning I did mention it to a gentlemen at the front desk - I wasn't complaining - and he was very considerate and apologized, offering a complementary dinner that evening for my sister and I which we declined, though it was much appreciated. So basically all we didn't like were the couple nights with noisy neighbors. Once they were gone, it was wonderfully quiet.

Staff were very Great. I did have several issues regarding breakfast on my first morning, however these issues were very well dealt with by Managers & staff the next day.

The PRICE!!! I paid such a lot for just myself & my 9 year old Great Grandson who was 10 this weekend & this was the reason for our weekend trip to Edinburgh........... his first Double Digit Birthday. Duty Manager was very professional & dealt with the problem I had with Noisy guests (who kept me awake most of the night) right away we were moved to the floor above which was much better during the night, THANK YOU to Her she was Brilliant!!! The Negative issues I pointed out to Duty Managers & all suggestions I made were put in place and All dealt with very well.

Upon check in, there was a group trying to get in. My room may or may not have been ready but I was offered to sit in the lounge, which I did with my luggage, but it wasn't a free 'tea'. But it was nice and my room was ready by the end of my cuppa. Loved the view from my room of Edinburgh castle and of the grassmarket strip. Bed was very comfortable and the room was large enough for me to repack myself for the next leg of my trip--i bought souvenirs :)

There isn't an elevator from the street to the elevator where the rooms are...so that was a bit of a bother. Also there is an Apex Hotel a few doors up the street which is where my cab took me first, AND the cab they called to when I checked out, also went there instead of to this hotel...the names are so close.

This hotel is on Grassmarket street, a fantastic line of shops, pubs and restaurants. A short, easy walk to the Royal Mile with views of Edinburgh castle. We simply love this iconic area, and the hotel is nestled in the middle of it all. A wonderful place to stay really.

No complaints really. The greeting staff were attentive and helpful, but quite slow (only 1 person taking check ins at 3PM.) My wife found the bed quite hard/firm but I thought it was fine. The check in area has stairs up to the desk. I was able to manage hauling my bags up, but they should have someone available to assist those who may struggle.
