great location and great staff

the room was a little cold (in December), the cooked breakfast could have been better, the food was well cooked and served but the quality of the ingredients was poor. 1 egg, 1 sausage, bacon, 1 hash brown and beans £12.

We appreciated the location. The hotel was only a few stops by bus from the airport (airport bus line 100). The bus stops (both ways) are right in front of the hotel. We choose not to order the breakfast in the hotel, so I cannot really give the feedback here, instead we used to go to nearby cafes (Coates cafe, Nomad - both good). The room was big enough for two people and very sufficient for our few days trip. The room was clean and cleaned every day. They also refilled what we used up (coffee, sugar, milk). The bathroom was nice, clean and renewed. Nice staff at the reception

There was a strange odor in the hotel when we came the first night, it got a little better next days or maybe we just got used to it? Perhaps not exactly ideal ventilation in an old building, however, nothing that would bother us extremely. Quite weak water drain in the shower, it took ages for the water to completely disappear. Wifi wasn´t very good, the connection was unstable and did not work a few times.

The check in staff were very nice and personable. When our shower floor filled up, a wonderful young fellow cleared the drain out and had a plumber come to check the temperatures. A door handle fell off and again, staff sent up a lovely repair man who fixed it right away. The one downside was the beautiful new bathroom, as it lacked hooks for towels or towel bars which we had to drape over chairs to dry and a small shelf or stand to place cosmetics on would be so helpful. The shower however was fabulous! Maybe a rubber mat to prevent slipping on the shower floor would be recommended. We enjoyed the breakfast options and the cook/serve staff were so nice and accommodating! Our room was nice with a lovely garden view and window desks! Coffee, cream, tea and biscuits were provided and daily maid service was wonderful . The breakfast was lovely, many options and very accommodating cook/serve staff! All in all, a lovely little boutique hotel!

Oh dear, it’s a minor issue but the bathroom needs hooks or towel bars to hang up towels after use and a small shelf or stand on which to place cosmetics/ toiletry bags.

The hotel is in an amazing location. We stayed as we were watching a gig at Murrayfield and it's the perfect place for that. The staff were lovely - polite and really helpful. Our room was nice, and the en-suite was the cleanest bathroom of any hotel we have ever stayed in. The traditional cooked breakfast was delicious, with a great choice of cereal, fruit, juice and hot drinks

Our room (room 46) was upstairs in a really hot part of the hotel. The rest of the hotel felt lovely and cool, but the heat literally hit you as you walked up the stairs due to a sky light in the hallway ceiling having a bit of a greenhouse effect. We left the bedroom windows open all night, though, and were fine. When we got back after the gig, there was only one member of staff on the bar. Although the barman serving in the bar was lovely and polite, he was extremely slow. The queue was huge and it took absolutely ages to get served.

The hotel was very close to the city centre without being directly in the centre. Excellent transport links, right outside a bus stop and a 5 min walk from Haymarket Station. The room was very big, lots of plug sockets, TV with lots of channels. Cleaned daily. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast add on options I would stay here again if I was to come back to Edinburgh.

The bed wasn't overly comfortable There could have been a bit more space in the bathroom to put toiletries, and the water was slow to drain from the bottom of the shower. .

We booked the hotel for a concert at the Murrayfield Stadium, which is only a 9 minute walk away, and I was pleasantly surprised at how closely we were located to everything tram, train and bus stops where at the end of the road not even a 5 min walk. We loved every minute of our stay here at The Cumberland Hotel

I decided to stay and have a drink at the hotel bar whilst my daughter was at the concert but was disappointed to find there was no staff around to serve me even after ringing the bell at reception. Other than that, our stay at The Cumberland Hotel was perfect.

We were somewhat reluctant for our stay here due to the fact that most reviews had a lot of complaints. However, upon arrival we were immediately surprised. First of all, the building looks very nice from outside and is well located. The man who greeted us was incredibly nice and welcoming. The room was small but very comfortable and the bed was especially cozy. The bathroom was simple and small but clean. They had an electric water boiler, coffee, tea, biscuits and a nice TV with access to multiple channels and pre recorded content. Besides all that, the staff allowed us to keep our bags safely in the living room before our check-in and after our check-out despite not being obliged to, so they were very nice.

Not much to say here, but we noticed the shower door did not close properly (at all) so it was kind of messy taking a shower. Besides, the shower could have better drainage and water pressure. The bathroom light was extremely white and invasive (personal preference) and the bathroom was overall always cold. Besides that, and despite being nice and polite, we wish the staff would've been more friendly and warming or talkative since they felt very distant.

The hotel is stylish and very well located - right next to a bus stop on direct line to the airport, several buses to the center as well as a quick walk to Haymarket. The staff was very friendly and professional. The room interior was fine, fitting for the price/number of stars. Shower was spacious enough. We also had a great view from the hotel window. Overall we had absolutely no issues and our stay was good.

We ordered the cooked (Scottish) breakfast and it was great, we enjoyed it, but we also saw what the buffet/continental offer looked like and I wouldn't recommend it for that price - extremely basic choice of fruit, scrambled eggs and one type of cheese.

What can I say, I seen the review from the daily mail that this might possibly be the best hotel in Scotland. They weren’t wrong. We loved the fact that there was no keys for the room and you just had to whack the door as hard as you could for as long as possible at 3am in the morning to wake up the door staff to let you in. I loved the location, it was only a 20 minute sprint from the city centre. Close to all the nightlife and my personal fav the pubic triangle. The bar was never open which was fantastic, we didn’t want to drink anymore anyway. But the 2.50 tenants advertised will forever play on my mind. Where they cold and crispy or where they warm and flat. I guess I’m gona have to come back to find out. The showers where lovely and plenty of space for 2, infact I think 3 of us where in there at once. The staff where super friendly, we asked them if they could lift our luggage into the room for us on the day we checked in as we where in a lovely spot in the city centre meeting our good friend Donald Donaldson. Unfortunately, they couldn’t accommodate this request but they were very friendly and provided us with a taxi number so we only had to go all the way back to the hotel to put the bags in the room and then all the back into the city centre again to meet Donald. Thankfully, this only wasted 1 hour of our night, but boy did we make up for it. Overall I would give this a massive 10/10 for me. I wouldn’t be stuck for another hotel in Edinburgh again.

The building is beautiful (inside and out) and the room was comfortable for a family. It is slightly far from the city center, but we travelled by car so we made good use of the parking at the hotel. It was especially convenient when we arrived late from the ariport.

The wifi infrastructure is apparently limited in the number of devices it can support. When the hotel was full we (as well as other guests) could not get an IP address and connect. After the weekend (when many people left) there was no problem.
