DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh Airport

I was very pleased with the hotel on the whole, in terms of comfort and cleanliness. On arrival the receptionist was very welcoming with lots of smiles and information. She made my day by giving the the lovely warm cookie with melted chocolate. A really nice welcoming touch. I have to mention the very lovely evening restaurant staff; three sincere individuals who were superb at making me feel at ease and took pleasure in explaining the menu and their recommendations. They really made my evening on both nights. It was during the 2nd dining experience, I realised they were an actual family. A husband, wife and their son. Originally from Romaina. They were delightful!

I wouldnt say there was anything I didn't like. However, if I had to mention anything, it would be the hot breakfast. I didn't enjoy it much, as it was just luke warm and by the time you're half way through, it's very cold.

Our room had recently been refurbished and was extremely comfortable. The location was extremely good for travellers who had arrived on an evening flight from Palma, Majorca.

The cooked breakfast was grim, bacon hardly cooked, scrambled eggs that tasted of nothing. We had been staying in a hotel in Puerto de Soller, Majorca for a week, and had excellent breakfasts every day. The non cooked part of breakfast was much better. I had prunes, pineapple and yoghurt, which was fine. There was very attractive looking porridge, which was tucked away at the end of the breakfast counter. I would have had this in preference to bacon and egg, but only discovered it too late in the day.

The hotel is in a convenient location for early morning flights and the airport shuttle is an added bonus as the walk to the terminal would feel extra long in the cold wet winter. The beds are very comfortable and rooms are well appointed. Very nice for an airport hotel.

This may have only been a one-off problem, but the smell of smoke was strong in our non-smoking corridor and seeped into our room heavily. The front desk staff said they were unable to do anything to stop the smokers. They did offer to switch our room but as it was late at night we felt that would be more disruptive than the smoke. Hopefully most guests are respectful of rules and this isn’t an ongoing issue.

Great airport hotel stay before an early flight drop off for family member. Was surprised how underrated this airport hotel is, as had the most relaxed stay and staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Great food and drink options with the bar and restaurant, good breakfast options. Proximity to the airport and the shuttle service provided were a boon as we could use the shuttle at 3am with lots of luggage for the early flight departure, walked back as was only a little over 5min walk back. As we had some time before check out, had to choose between enjoying the spa facilities or go into town, so managed to take the 100bus into the city centre for a few hrs to explore a bit while the car charged at the hotel parking. Even booked to come back and stay for another flight in a month as really loved their vibe!

The front desk staff was extremely friendly and nice. The room was clean and quiet. The shuttle from the airport was easy to find and seamless (we had rented a car, and returned it the night before an early flight - and thus, stayed at this hotel due to location). The restaurant was great (vegan options, gluten free options), and waitstaff were attentive. The shuttle driver was kind. Overall - VERY happy with the experience.

The shower was not designed well, so water spills out and onto the floor (and door, which was starting to rot away) no matter what you did. Very small issue, and simply a design flaw.

We booked here last minute with all the flight cancellations on the August bank holiday weekend. Given everything the staff would've had to deal with that afternoon & evening they were all incredibly friendly. We decided between here and Moxy for 2 reasons: 1) DoubleTree could accommodate 4 of us in one room and 2) DoubleTree had a pool...which meant keeping our daughter busy whilst we sorted everything else out. The pool was incredibly big for what we were expecting, and warm - so that was great!

Rooms are getting a little dated; but it looked like there was a room at the end of the hall getting redone as a concept room, so that could be promising.

We had a friendly welcome at reception and the bar and waiting staff were very attentive and engaging. The room was clean and easy to find.

We purposely booked this hotel as it had a swimming pool for our children. We did not realise they were not permitted to swim without an adult in the pool with them (we would have remained poolside) They are 12 and 8 and both swim to competition standard. I do realise this is not the case for all children but if we had known they couldn’t swim then we would have perhaps booked another, more competitively priced hotel. I don’t remember requesting a quiet room however the room we did have faced the car park and the airport runway. The noise wasn’t an issue for us and is to be expected at an airport hotel but if I had asked for a quiet room then this certainly wasn’t one.

The cookie was delicious, and they allowed me to check in about 5 hours early, which was appreciated since I was travelling alone. The beds were very comfortable and very clean. Even though I was very close to the airport - close enough to watch all the planes taking off from the runway - I didn't have any trouble sleeping, I could hardly even hear the planes. This was super nice since I had an early flight the next morning and wanted to get my rest. I loved the shuttle to the airport, since it meant I didn't have to worry about finding my way there walking or getting a taxi in a new country. Just let the front desk know that you need them to call the shuttle, since it doesn't stop at the hotel unless they know you need it.

The showerhead in my room didn't work, and the bathtub had a couple hairs in it and the paint was peeling, so taking a bath wasn't super appealing and I couldn't take a shower instead since the showerhead wasn't working. The sink was big enough to be able to wash my hair in it, so it wasn't all bad, but it could have been better. The TV wasn't a smartTV, and while it got decent channels, I would have preferred having access to netflix or hulu.

Good location and very comfortable hotel. Most of the staff were excellent and the facilities of a high standard.

My daughter was not informed, when she offered to add a tip for service onto the dinner bill, that a service charge was included. I think this was unfair and she only noticed when inspecting her receipt later. The hotel was ideal but I felt that generally it was a very expensive visit.

Public areas were not warm. Reception had difficulty recognising my booking and determining whether the bed night was before or after parking. Dinner menu prices displayed were not what we had to pay. Service charge is added and then vat is added. It is not right to have to pay vat on a service charge.
