The location was fine but was not valve for money, was shocked to the price!! (Breakfast)

Ordered food on the Friday night and it was cold and they forgot the veg so that was a bit disappointing. Also was a bit disappointed when I arrived that the room we were allocated was not suitable for a 85year old which I had requested a wheelchair on my arrival, also said on my email we were there for a 85th birthday celebration for my mum. For the money I paid I thought she would’ve got a small cake.

Great location, friendly staff, lovely decorations for Christmas. We were upgraded to a better view room which was very comfortable and the the underfloor heating in the bathroom was a lovely touch. The Nespresso machine in the room was great and the complimentary water. As we stayed over Christmas day we also received a Christmas stocking and some mince pies. They had arranged macarons and balloons in the room for my birthday when we arrived. Nice attention to detail all around. We ate in the No1 restaurant and it did not disappoint, excellent menu and paired wines. I great experience.

The spa seemed like a separately run entity and didn't have the same level of customer service, my treatment appointment was changed twice and then ultimately cancelled which I found out about when I called their desk. We had drinks in Brassiere Prince and the stay were not overly welcoming despite the fact we were staying there. I think what is hard about this hotel is it has the potential to still be the traditional grand hotel it once was, however now it does feel like all the endless chain hotels you get and some of the staff really didn't seem interested.

The location is 10/10. It is one of Edinburgh’s landmark. It has a great pool and allows family swimming at all times. But the most important thing is the attention to detail. We had booked as a family as in so many other “family friendly” hotels before. But at the Balmoral they had equipped the room with kids dressing gowns, a secure step in the bathroom so the kids can brush their teeth, kids shampoo and lots of little welcome presents. Clearly they won our kids over with the biscuits With the Number One Restaurant on Site, we were able to enjoy a grown up birthday dinner with kids enjoying room service and a movie. It was very memorable.

If you push me hard I would perhaps say the wallpaper in bedroom would not be my first pick. But if you need a family treat, the Balmoral is your

Impeccable service. Great attention to detail.

Cold in coridoors and lobby area. Nowhere to sit apart from the bar. Shower was over the bath and very difficult to get in and out because of deep bath.

Every now and then you come across a hotel that really leaves you admiring every detail in and every interaction, and the Balmoral is one of those hotels, it is exactly what you would imagine an iconic 5 star hotel in the Scottish capital to feel like from the moment you enter to the moment you leave everything is immaculate and it's really earned it's reputation the room, the service, the food options were all spot on. it was our first holiday with our 5 month old first born and all his and our needs were catered for perfectly and we can't to come back.

It's not often that i don't find much to say in this section but from our 3 nights stay there wasn't anything wrong with the hotel, the one thing that maybe can be pointed out that the TV's can be bigger in the room and both TVs were not facing a direction that you can watch them comfortably from, but that's really being picky.

The opulence of the hotel. The beautiful Christmas tree and decorations in the foyer. We booked a taster meal at Number One, the in house restaurant which was absolutely superb! The waiting staff were excellent and very attentive. The sommelier was most knowledgeable when my son asked which wine he would suggest. The wine did not disappoint. We spent 4 relaxing hours at our table which added to the whole experience. We were even paid a visit by the chef. Would highly recommend a visit.

We booked breakfast at Brasserie Prince and would not recommend eating there. There was a choice of fruit juices. However this was not self service, instead a glass of your chosen juice was brought to the table filled with ice! I chose Eggs Benedict and both poached eggs were hard and the hollandaise was far too lemony. My son chose the Scottish breakfast and both his poached eggs were hard too. Not a big fan of loose leaf tea which is served in glass teapots. At check out when the bill was presented, gratuity had automatically been added. When I queried this I was told this is the norm. I object to the assumption I would be happy to pay this. However, there was no quibble when I requested the amount be removed.

This hotel is the best we have ever stayed in. the staff was super nice and helpful, the rooms are beautiful and spacious, it is a magnificent building inside and out and the immaculate spaces make you feel like it’s a dream come true. we also had afternoon tea here which is a must! food was of the best quality one can imagine as well as the service and the live music played by a harp player on a small balcony above the sitting room. The friendliness and professionalism of each and every staff member was very helpful. The room was cleaned and serviced twice a day, bed was so comfy you never want to leave it . We were thankfully given a room with a marvelous view to the old town but make sure to ask for it in advance. Definitely stay at this hotel as it is truly an experience to remember!

Excellent location within walking distance to Holyrood House, The Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, and more. We were upgraded to the Junior Suite, which was spacious with a dressing area and a lovely bathroom The hotel bar has a lovely ambience, pianist, and great choice of drinks. We had the 7 course taster meal at No One, which was lovely, but on the pricey side, especially with the accompanying wine. The doormen and staff were all very friendly and welcoming.

It is very expensive, however this is not unexpected for a 5 star Hotel in a central location in a beautiful city.

This is truly one of the great hotels of the world, and could not be in a better location. Staff are knowledgeable, pleasant, and take great pains to meet every guest request. Awesome dining and bar options. We stayed here twice and luggage storage and return of laundry between our two stays was handled flawlessly - all in our room waiting for us when we arrived for our second stay.

It would be oh so nice if the lift from the platforms of Waverley train station were still available
