Absolutely stunning; the hotel was immaculate and the rooms were incredibly cosy. Our stay was made more pleasant with the friendliness of the staff. Gleneagles Townhouse is located conveniently; we got into Edinburgh Waverley station and walked to the hotel, which took under 5 minutes. We were greeted at the door by a cordial young man - he was attentive and recommended lovely places for my family and I to visit. From the lobby we had a spectacular view of their restaurant, The Spence, and we booked in for dinner immediately; we were sat in an exquisite hall with palatial original detailing, which was breathtaking. Not only were we spoilt with a lovely breakfast and dinner, but we also had access to their rooftop bar, The Lamplighters. Upon arrival, we were surprised with complimentary nibbles (olives, bruschetta, parma ham etc.). The cocktails were named after Robert Louise Stevenson's characters and novels, and as a literature enthusiast, I was impressed. The Lamplighters is also a great place to retreat to for tea or coffee, after having had dinner at The Spence, to finish off the evening - thus, it is not only for those who'd like to have alcoholic beverages. Additionally, you will most certainly appreciate the views from the rooftop of the spectacular Edinburgh skyline as the sun sets. Overall, this is a place that I would absolutely recommend if you are after a luxurious stay, as well as a central location. You are only a short walk away from Edinburgh's most famous attractions, such as Edinburgh Castle, Palace of Hollyroodhouse, St Giles' Cathedral, National Museum etc. Shopping destinations, like George Street, Princes Street, Royal Mile and Multrees Walk are also on your doorstep. I must also add - that was one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in!!!

There is nothing in particular that I did not like, however, it is good to note that Gleneagles Townhouse does not have vast spa facilities (swimming pool, steam room etc.) - although the spa facilities that they do have are spectacular!

We decided to treat ourselves following our wedding at the City Chambers and we were both so pleased that we did. What a fabulous hotel. Staff were lovely and friendly and gave us a lovely little gift as it was our wedding. Having stayed in Gleneagles a couple of years ago we were blown away and the townhouse doesn't disappoint either. Rooftop bar was a fantastic location for a few post dinner cocktails and once again the staff were superb. Breakfast was included and was fantastic and for what its worth was we felt reasonably priced per item even if it hadn't been included in the price.

There is absolutely nothing not to like about The Town house what so ever. Fantastic addition to the city and beautiful addition to Gleneagles itself.

Perfect location just a few minutes walk from the main train station and close to attractions. Hotel was beautiful and the staff were excellent and couldn’t have done more for us. Despite being on the ground floor the room was extremely quiet and beautifully furnished. Noticed how clean the hotel was everywhere and felt brand new. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful - order anything from the menu and it is included in the room. We didn’t use the spa but it looked so nice and again the staff very friendly. It was an expensive stay but completely worth it.

I really can’t think of anything!

Great location, incredibly stylish conversion of imposing banking hall into a 5 star hotel and restaurant, very luxurious, great interior design and super friendly staff.

First impressions slightly marred by piped music and smell of fried food when you walk in, given the grandeur of the building - they need to fix the extraction. Also having a fixed percentage ‘service charge’ on the room rate - apparently instead of guests leaving a cash tip - is a bit annoying and presumptuous. Either put the room rate up or allow people to work out their own staff tip.

The breakfast was excellent. The space is very impressive. We had some politicians at the next table. They weren't that annoying, but they probably were not guests. Not sure I agree with people walking into top-class hotels and having breakfast. They should at least be charged a hefty premium. The waiter did forget my orange juice, which I didn't mention at the time. The rooftop bar was a great experience. Quite "London". The "wellness centre" also seemed to be open to visitors. Don't like that. The "infra red sauna" didn't seem to provide the required level of discomfort. It was like sitting in a warm box. I've had experiences in other hotels where locals crowd out guests in the gym/spa area. I understand the economics, but it ruins the exclusivity. I'd say have smaller gyms, bars, and breakfast areas or charge guests more.

Loved our bedroom facilities - hooks for outdoors coats behind the door, hotel brolly in case it rains, hairdryer and straighteners, coffee/tea facilities, mini bar and bathrobes. Loved the rooftop bar….for residents only. All the staff were friendly and attentive.

Not a fan of the shampoo or conditioner. Felt it left my hair dry. Prefer Arran products found in other hotels. Didn’t like the slippers….far too big. Disappointed with the window sill near the seat where we had breakfast in The Spence restaurant…..needed dusted! Can understand it’s a busy time of year in Dec and there’s staff shortages but as someone who’s OCD….I notice these things.

The hotel is quite lovely, in a former and very grand bank. Breakfast is served in a glorious atrium. Lovely gym. We changed rooms. First room was somewhat lackluster so we asked to change. Second room was gorgeous! Lovely views to St. Andrew’s square, lovely claw foot tub. Service across the board was perfect— really nice people work here.

The lamplighters lounge wasn’t great and there really was no lounge in which to sit and read and have a drink.

everywhere was easily accessible

we were given an extra bill when we checked out for services, e,g service at breakfast and we had already paid for breakfast; room service ie for making the bed and changing the towels, we had already paid about £500/night so an extra 5% on this was too much and also had not been advertised before we booked. we were, however told we could cancel these charges.

the hotel rooms are the best, the bar area is just stunning and the staff very professional but the food in the restaurant is a let down a bit to be honest. Anyway I’ll still chose to stay in this hotel. I’m quite often travelling to Edinburg and this hotel have the best rooms and the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in!

The restaurant food. Even tho the menu is changed is still not to the standard of what the hotel is offering in therms of accommodation.

The quality of the fittings, fixtures and furnishings, recently refurbished to the highest standards. The building is very historic, but the conversion to a guest townhouse was done so well and kept many of the original features. Both the dining area and cocktail bar were outstanding.

Nothing really, the house it a bit of a maze to get around, but that was part of the fun and discovery of each of the facilities .
