Sonder Royal Garden Apartments

Really nice spacious apartment, high ceilings, just a 5 minute walk from the Royal Mile. Service requests were promptly followed up by remote support & local staff.

Although the apartment was tidy, it could (and should) have been cleaner: there was coffee residue in the coffeepot and the toiletries were not clean. Also, being located in a relatively old building, the window panes had old/crackling/moldy caulk around the glazing. I.e. it needs some TLC maintenance wise. Sonder prides itself on the highest level of service, with that comes - in my opinion - an immaculate level of cleanliness which was unfortunately not the case. Given their pricepoint, I expected a higher standard.

The apartments were in an excellent location as only a few minutes walk to the shopping & restaurants districts, Christmas market and easy walk or bus ride to the old town/castle. Automatic code check in/out was easy. All information was provided beforehand but reception staff were also on hand and very friendly and welcoming. The apartment was beautiful, modern décor and facilities and very comfortable. We flew to Edinburgh and found the 25 minute tram ride from the airport to the city centre excellent and only cost £9 per person for an open return (concessions and family tickets available). The tram stop at St Andrew's Square is a five minute, downhill leisurely walk to the apartment. It was a bonus to be able to leave our bags prior to check in and after check out to help us make the most of our break without lugging bags with us. Highly recommend as will definitely be going back and also looking at other Sonder apartments around the UK and world.

Nothing negative about our stay

The apartment was great! Really big and specious, nice interior. They view was amazing in to the garden and with a sea view! (not sure if all have that nice view) Fully equiped kitchen. Comfy bed with proper bed linen. Great hair shampoo and conditioner. Storage space. Possibility to refill coffee from reception. We used the washing machine (powder present) and the dishwasher. Definitly recommend to stay when you want to stay a few days in Edinburgh, it was very comfortable and convenient.

They force you to do an online checkin in advance. We would have preferred a standard checkin since we arrived early. We felt we didn't get all the information correctly such as the cleaning, garden and access codes. We also had issues that the access code was not working. Then they gave us a badge that worked much better. You shoud at least have the option to do a standard checkin. No access to Netflix etc. even though its preinstalled?

Staff in reception were so friendly and very helpful. Studio apartment was lovely, comfy and clean. Very little nosie at night. The location is fabulous. You are a short walk from the tram stop, airlink bus stop and the hop on/off tour buses. Would definitely stay here again.

Bright airy apartment with large windows and large rooms. Good potential for a wonderful stay but disappointing attention by staff to maintenance. For the high price and a “luxury” stay the attention to details is lacking.

Clearly disinterested staff /or no maintenance management of the apartments. Each day we told the front desk staff about the issues needing attention listed below and each day we were asked what apartment number we were referring to. Despite the large windows and the hottest days in Edinburgh we could not open the windows more than 1cm. In the bedroom the blind pulley was broken so had to be down the entire time which blocked any air or light into the room. The light in bedroom did not work as bulbs simply not changed. So room was actually dark for our entire stay. Curtain pair in sitting room missing. Fan was noisy and needs replacing.

Super clean apartment! That goes a long way with me. Spacious studio and loved that it had an in-unit washing machine! (With detergent provided for both that and the small dishwasher--thanks!) Also loved that the bathroom floors were heated and overall the bathroom was spacious with a full size tub/shower, towel heating rack, and enough space for toiletries. The location was SUPERB. Super easy to walk a block and be in the heart of New Town, then a short walk to all the Old Town sites. We walked to the Royal Mile in 12 minutes, Edinburgh castle, Holyrood etc. The only time we needed to take an Uber was to/from the airport and to/from Leith.

Not much bad to say! The beds and pillows could have been plusher. As an American, we prefer to have washcloths to wash with in the shower which would be a minor thing to add (in addition to regular bath and hand towels).

Location was great and the view was really nice. The apartment was spacious and perfect for 3-4 people.

The check-in was a pain and having to download a separate app to get the details and sign up for another platform was annoying.

The property provided us with good facilities for some administration after some 10 days on the road. Having a washer & dryer Combo machine was great. The kitchen was very well equipped with all that we required. The location was very close to main attractions being 10 minutes walk away from Princes street. A great breakfast eatery almost opposite our apartment. And although we didn’t need the staff at the reception till check out they were polite, talkative & helpful.

The top floor loft apartment was exceptional in every way, Location, comfort , cleanliness, super view from the balcony to the Forth estuary and beyond, with a full sunset. Short walking distance to Edinburgh's top sites. It's in the must return category.

Only minor - could have done with an inhouse bluetooth speaker to play some music.

There was no breakfast included during our stay but that was alright. However, I did like that it was easily accessible to all the tourist attractions in the city. I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely recommend this to someone else. I loved the room ambiance and the bed was most enjoyable thing! It gave you the right amount of privacy and comfort after a long day's stroll out beautiful Edinburgh.

I was a disappointed that we had to wait at 4pm just to check into the apartment and we were asked to pay extra if we wanted to check in earlier. Check out time was at 11am which didn't really give you ample amount of time to enjoy a 24 hour stay.
