Holiday Inn Ellesmere Port/Cheshire Oaks, an IHG Hotel

Beautiful location and I arrived very late nearly 1am and the night staff were unbelievably helpful my booking was not showing up but they done everything they could to help me without the booking as most hotels would turn you away not these staff they bent over backwards to help 1 million percent recommend staying here. Once booked in at nearly 1.30am the lovely lady made me juice with the offer of tea and coffee she then made sure that I had food - snacks ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING STAFF

Staff were very friendly and helful; in particular Anna at the leisure facility, the reception staff who checked us in, those supporting with breakfasts and the housekeepers that we spoke to. The pool was lovely, if not particularly big. Other pool users were friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Housekeeping was good. Bed comfortable. Room clean. Good supply of towels.

Minor issues with decor and facilities. Decor in corridors was in need of repair... some torn pieces of wallpaper. We stayed in an accessible room; one of the additional handrails was particularly rusty. The tiles in the wet room bathroom were extremely slippery when wet. It would be good to have bottles of water supplied in the rooms, particularly as it was so hot during our stay.

Loved the scenic element of the hotel very peaceful. Large spacious and clean rooms very comfortable bed. Quiet hotel and lovely reception staff.

Girl with red hair on the bar not friendly at all did not smile and said they were not serving coffee at 2pm after we checked in? Also was more interested in speaking to the men drinking their pints at the bar rather than serving people waiting of seeing if you needed assistance. We went for coffee elsewhere. This is not a reflection of the other staff.

Very big room with views over the canal, actually very nice setting (whereas to get there we drove through areas that definitely are not lovely). Lovely walk to be had around the canal towards the canal museum, all very clean and airy. Very nice hotel, nice bar, friendly staff, restaurant on site, pool (we didn't use it). Good choice at breakfast.

Car parking was a bit tight as there was a wedding party (having said that, we couldn't hear them so that's a big plus). Food in the restaurant was OK, nothing amazing not terrible either. It wasn't clear when we booked that the swimming pool was in a separate unit, so you would have to come out of the hotel to go to the leisure area - and you needed to book even for a swim, so in the end we didn't bother. But these are small points and they didn't hinder our enjoyment of the site.

We enjoyed the food - the breakfast was excellent - our room was in a great position the beds were comfortable - we had requested a quieter room away from the lifts etc as we are light sleepers and they honoured this for us - the staff are just lovely, attentive and helpful with everything.

Two things which we would class as maintenance issues - the heating /air con - we couldn’t initiate the cool and the info on the wall says it starts at 19 degrees and can be up to 15 mins to start cooling - It’s June 23 and the summer has been exceptionally warm so we was unacceptable when we tried it in an already warm room. The shower was very very difficult to set to shower use and was hit and miss as to whether you got it - it needed plenty of effort and tries - were not inform and I’m an engineer- To recap these two things should be more straight forward to use and need looking at soon as

Dinner was good. Breakfast was standard self service 'full English' or 'continental' so easy to facilitate, but nicely cooked. Room was excellent, with a large double bed. (I am a widower, but large bed is still nice). Last year I was struck down with bowel cancer, and now have a colostomy bag. I am also recently widowed (only 9 weeks ago). When I spoke to the member of staff on the reception desk as to problems I might have as to changing my colostomy bag and the removal of used bag(s), she could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Vicky Ash was is her name, and she made me feel 'at ease' on what was my first trip away since the occurrence of both events.

cannot fault the hotel in any way! service from all staff was superb, such a warm welcome and a ‘nothing was too much trouble’ feel. a perfect location with only a short drive away from Cheshire oaks, lovely surroundings and the gym / pool facilities were great! Usually we skip hotel breakfasts as they aren’t always the best.. but this did not disappoint! :) I loved the VIK club for kids which my daughter loved and also the Easter quiz/chocolates that were in the room on arrival - such a nice touch! I was down early in the lounge area replying to work messages and a lovely lady Heather made sure I had a coffee sorted and was super friendly ! The hotel room was very spacious and super clean + air con (that actually works ) we will be back again for sure. thanks again for such a wonderful stay !

The breakfast was fantastic! Great choice and friendly staff. The room was clean and comfortable, the beds were huge, and choice of feather or foam pillows. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Small pool in the leisure complex next to the hotel was free and very quiet. The view and surrounding area are beautiful. The hotel is situated close to the Blue planet aquarium and to lots of shops

The pool complex, whilst being a good , was very rundown and definitely needs some tlc. The carpets were a bit stained but nothing terrible.

Good breakfast with wide range of choices for both hot and cold dishes. Additional choices could be ordered such as pancakes, porridge and poached eggs. Evening meals and snacks were good quality and reasonably priced. Staff were without exception, friendly and very helpful. Beautiful setting on its own island with canals around it. Very quiet location. Free car park. Very comfortable bed. Room was a good size. Really enjoyed our stay.

Nothing. Would have preferred a walk in shower, but we didn’t ask. Not sure if they are available.

The staff were extremely friendly, very warm welcome. The rooms were n8ce and clean, very basic but for the price I was happy. Beds were comfy. The location is actually nicer than I thought being right by the water. The breakfast was really good lots of choice, we were woken up by a false fire alarm which was really annoying but I suppose it can't be helped. I would come back here as we didn't get to use the leisure facilities so didn't get the full use of it. Other than that I was very happy!

As mentioned the fire alarm went off but really nothing to complain about
