The Psalter

The room was beautiful and exceeded expectations. Lots of nice little features which show the room design has really been thought out. Loved the bedside shelves/lamps which were also wireless phone chargers. The shower was great; good pressure and got nice and hot. The personalised note on the bed was a nice touch, as were the drinks vouchers although I didn't notice them until I was getting into bed so it was too late to use them. The decor throughout the hotel was beautiful.

There was no cooked breakfast option, only continental, and the options available were limited. Cereals and a couple of pastries. Didn't see any toast, fruit, cheese or yoghurt. I'm GF so the only option available was a pot of instant porridge which I don't feel was worth the £5 charge. Had we known there was no cooked breakfast when booking, we probably wouldn't have booked this hotel.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was tastefully decorated, immaculately clean and had everything we needed - even a fan! The bathroom had a spacious shower, soap, bodywash, shampoo and conditioner were provided. The hairdryer was nice and powerful! Tea, coffee milk, bottled water in the room. The bed was really comfortable. The breakfast was amazing! We had the garden breakfast and it was top quality. The tomatoes, mushrooms and poached eggs were cooked to perfection. We didn't eat anything from the buffet as we didn't want to spoil the cooked breakfast and then we were too full afterwards. The coffee was good and I loved the cups and saucers too. We stayed here as it was within walking distance to a party we attended but it is a hidden gem if you don't want city centre. We had a drink from the bar on arrival and sat outside in the sun to drink it - very relaxing!

Very nice little hotel and the kind, friendly and welcoming staff are a credit to the establishment. My niece enjoyed her pizza dinner and we loved our complimentary mocktails - a real treat for a 14 year old! The bar staff were excellent. We were late for the cooked breakfast but had been advised to book ahead which we didn’t want to as we were unsure of our plans. In spite of this, the staff were willing to rustle up something for us - including the chef who made the kind offer directly to us. There was enough continental fare available so we were happy with that.

The stairs were a challenge for my nearly 84 year old mother as well as for me but I’d happily stay here again.

The room was clean and comfortable. I had asked for a single room, but was upgraded to a double. It had been left with windows ajar and fan going, appreciating that was a hot day. The breakfast is not included in the price, but there is a fixed price continental breakfast or a cooked breakfast for a bit more. It was good to be able to get an evening meal in the bar on site. The food is either pizza or Korean depending on the day. This was my second stay and I expect to be back.

I would have liked an upright chair in the bedroom so I could work there. However there was room in the breakfast bar to work in the evening and the staff were helpful in enabling me to do this.

This was my second visit to the Psalter and yet again I absolutely LOVED it. I was brought up near the hotel so it's always quite nostalgic for me doing a trip back but it's always absolutely SPOTLESS and I love the fact it's really cool, modern and quirky with pictures of Jarvis Cocker everywhere. It's brilliant! The bathrooms are absolutely beautiful and again spotlessly clean with ample supplies of the most BEAUTIFUL products. There are a load of free teas and coffees and not one but FOUR coffee biscuits! It's not really the cheapest option in Sheffield but it's got the vibe of a beautiful boutique hotel so whether they like it or not, I WILL BE BACK!!!!!

Literally the only thing I didn't like with both stays was the really uncomfortable bed. It's so firm it doesn't even budge but also it feels really cheap and not like the memory foam or pocket sprung ones that loads of other hotels seem to use. I didn't actually sleep that well on it so my suggestion would be a really good quality mattress topper.

Very impressed with cleanliness. Staff are so friendly. Enjoyed breakfast. Really appreciated upgrade, rooms next to each other and on 1st floor.

Shame to learn Johnny has moved on. Young man on late shift was extremely polite and professional. I came down to ask for some more milk, to find out you have oat milk, staff member apologised that I didn’t have enough milk in my room which I really appreciated but was more than happy to return to my room with oat milk. For me personally, my mattress was too firm, but I appreciate this is personal preference, and having said that, I slept brilliantly.

Everything was perfect from start to finish. Very friendly and helpful staff, every part of the hotel (restaurant, bar, room) was super clean and well kept. Not one thing to complain about and will definitely be staying again when we next visit Sheffield. We came to see Pulp play at the arena and they even had a couple of Jarvis Cocker pictures up on the walls which really made it for us. Complimentary 2-4-1 drinks vouchers in our beautiful room, someone available 27/7 so it doesn’t matter what time you come in. The breakfast was brilliant also at a reasonable price.

Booked this hotel last minute and was not expecting much because it was cheaper than Travelodge and Premier Inn. When I checked in, I was surprised as the quality and cleanliness of the hotel. Every thing from staff to comfort was amazing. They have very modern technologies and use the best material. My toilet mirror had a built-in light and Bluetooth!! And they only use The White Company products. They also have parking which is so convenient. Everyone is very polite and once I finished my stay they contacted me and hoped that I enjoyed staying there and even sent me a voucher to go again! This has never happened to me before. Everything was perfect and will be going back there again!

Oh my God I can't rave about The Psalter enough! I was brought up quite close by so was in a bit of a nostalgia trip but I was SO overjoyed to find it! The staff were absolutely DELIGHTFUL and the room was superb. Because I was on my own I have to admit it was quite tiny but it was decorated just so beautifully. It had a window that actually opened which seems to be a bit of a rarity these days but also there was a really lovely upright radiator that had a mirror attached to it so you could easily dry your hair as well. There were not one but FOUR Biscoff biscuits and the breakfast was utterly DIVINE. The bathroom was fab too with really beautiful products but I've got to stop now else I'll go on and on (even more!) Can't wait to book the next visit!

Unfortunately, and surprisingly I have to say, the bed was SO hard that it barely moved so I sadly didn't sleep very well as it was a pretty awful mattress but the bedlinen and pillows were beautiful. Also there were alot of people coming back really late at night and were bashing their doors so much that my room actually shook but that is obviously about the people, not the hotel.

Staff were brilliant, especially with our dog. Very attentive and through. Staff even brought up an extra fan when we said our dog was too hot in the night and spoiled her with treats. Liked the decor and appreciated being able to bring the dog to the bar and restaurant. Breakfast was really nice! Location is brilliant for the west of the city.

Our room didn't have bedside lamps and the overhead light was quite bright for winding down to sleep. Bed was a bit hard for me, wish it had a mini fridge, especially since our room had free water. My husband (6ft) smashed his head on the bulkhead over the toilet a few times.
