Agate Cove Inn

I really loved our stay in the Jasper room. It was the perfect size for two people for a long weekend. It had everything we could need including a fireplace, mini fridge, k cup maker, smart TV, and then some. There's a balcony with a view of the cliffs and oceans of the Mendocino headlands. We visited in March, and though it was chilly, everything was in full bloom! The Agate Cove property is stunning. The best part of our day was breakfast at the Inn. We had never stayed at an "Inn" before, so when I saw free breakfast, I was picturing a holiday inn situation. But WOW! Their chefs are incredible, the food was amazing, and you just can't beat the view of the ocean. We were treated so kindly by staff, who always had great recommendations for what to do.

For the most part, the rooms are updated and sparkling clean, but you can definitely tell the property is older once in person. This doesn't bother me, or effect how wonderful I think the property is, but compared to the photos when booking, I was a bit shocked when we arrived to see how old some of the finishes were in the bathroom and bedroom. Everything was completely functional though! Just something to be aware of.

The location and the inn are fantastic, fabulous. This was my 4th time there, and my friend and I came for the 3rd time — coming there has become a special annual retreat of a kind, and we are planning to come again next year. I recommend this place and Mendocino in general to basically all who are wondering where (else) to go in California. It's amazing for a quiet long weekend. Spectacular views of the ocean, its waves, and the cliffs; quiet, calming nature; forests; hikes; sunsets; delicious restaurants; tasty breakfasts at the inn with panoramic windows to take in the view... I will attach a few pictures from different times. If you get a chance to come here, I think you will not regret it.

We stayed in the same room as the year before, and ants still were making their usual way into the room, unfortunately. I understand that the structure of the buildings and the location are perhaps just naturally prone to this, and yet I am still hoping this will improve.

The twin pines view is unbeatable! Second favorite thing is the breakfast, served in a room facing the unbeatable view. We decided to come to Mendocino a day earlier and the staff was very helpful with moving us to a comparable room and matching the price. They did miss some of our special requests but made a good effort to correct the omission. Overall, we experienced a great level of service.

Some of the photos and descriptions of the rooms seem misleading. We expected bathrobes (there weren’t any) and it looks like some of the cottages have jetted tubs (ours didn’t). Just need to pay better attention and ask specific questions next time. Third night night neighbors were loud and you could hear the TV through the common wall well into the night. Not the Inn’s fault, of course.

Location is beautiful and ideal for access to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Room was very comfortable and deliciously warm and cozy. It was the perfect size and had its own balcony. The breakfast is freshly made each morning and adds a very healthy start to the day.

I would like to see refillable pump bottles of shampoo/conditioner and shower gel in the bathroom rather than the small single-use soaps, etc. that were available for guests to use. Hotels need to consider their environmental footprint in more aspects than just saving water. Also, move to only supplying unscented products for guests, in consideration of guests who are scent-sensitive.

This place is absolutely perfect. We stayed in the Emerald room, which was quiet, had a stunning ocean view, plenty of space, and the most comfortable bed. The water pressure in the shower was great. Breakfast was absolutely spectacular. One of if not the best B&B breakfasts I've ever had. And you cannot beat the view from the dining area - it's right on the water. The staff was so lovely and welcoming, and check in/out was a breeze. If we are ever in Mendocino again, we will absolutely be back!!

We loved everything about this place!

This B&B was one of the best we've been to- and every chance we get to go away without kids, we'll usually look for a Bed And Breakfast. This place thoroughly exceeded our expectations. Right after we checked in, we were greeted by friendly staff with a fantastic view, great-smelling entrance, a wonderful complimentary charcuterie board and wine tasting. They also knew we were celebrating a birthday and provided complimentary chocolate covered strawberries and champagne in our room. The grounds were beyond beautiful, stunning views of the ocean from the Farmhouse (breakfast & happy hour room), AND our room. The only reason I gave overall score of 9- because there were sporadic ants in our rooms over the 2 nights we stayed. Otherwise, the best place! We can't wait to return!

We couldn't leave out any food, orange juice, etc because ants would show up.

The view of the ocean was amazing from the property ! The rooms we booked (Emerald and Obsidian) had great views. The breakfast was delicious and enjoyed the overall experience of the way the tables were setup to give the best views. The grounds themselves are extremely well maintained and landscaped.

The days we were there were really hot (temperature in the 90s). Not having an A/C in the room made it a bit uncomfortable - though compensated by a fan and keeping the windows open. A couple of things in the room did need attention from maintenance like the window was a bit hard to open.

Excellent location. Amazing, friendly staff. Fantastic large, cozy room with comfortable bed and bath robes and a huge private balcony with ocean front views- we stayed in the Crystal room. Beautiful grounds, relaxing experience. We will definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in the area. I wouldn’t stay in any other cottage other than Crystal- spend the extra money, it’s worth it!!! One of my top favorite rooms! Breakfast was excellent. We were greeted every time we walked in and asked what we would like to drink-coffee, hot cocoa, hot apple cider or tea. They give you a large French press you can take outside to enjoy if you wish. The lady cooking breakfast was extremely friendly and made you feel welcomed. They were short staffed for our whole stay, but still did a great job running the place. There’s a room that’s open 24/7 with hot beverages, water and cookies (get in the AM, they go fast) which is so convenient. A special spot for a nice getaway. We had a wonderful stay.

The only thing bad thing I could say is that our room, Crystal, was right above the breakfast, kitchen area so you could hear a little when the breakfast was cooking. On the plus side you could also smell it and we’d never find ourselves sleeping through breakfast.

The property is conveniently located very near to the shops & main streets of Mendocino but just outside the town per se, with fabulous views of the ocean and beautifully landscaped gardens. Check-in instructions were thorough and we were able to self-check in. We liked the keyless keypad entry, the round-the-clock coffee and tea availability, and quiet and well-spaced-out suites. We particularly enjoyed spending time enjoying the views from the room’s deck.

The location of the designated parking space for our room did not have a sign causing some confusion (other parking spots were identified). We were able to refer to the property map posted on the office door, though. Otherwise, we were quite pleased by the property.

This is a small B&B directly facing the sea. The gardens are exquisite, the room was very comfortable with a private garden, gas fireplace, large jetted tub, comfortable pillows and just steps to the breakfast area that affords great views of the ocean. We had the Diamond room. The breakfast was exceptional and creative. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, even to the point of bringing fresh baked cookies out as we sat lazily gazing at the sea on the lawn...she said because we raved about how good they were from the night before. The property is a short drive to the village in Mendocino. Very nice, recommended!

An outdoor hot tub would complete the picture!
