The Grove Inn

Sasha was so helpful and let us store our bags when we arrived early. The location was perfect and we felt safe and secure. Bed was comfy and there was a basket of snacks and a coffee machine. Try the alamo square cafe up the road and make sure to visit the alamo square park for panoramic views of the city (beautiful at night also)Location is walking distance to several neighbourhoods with restaurants and stores to check out. Would recommend this place to anyone

If your neighbours are super loud you will hear them. could use more outlets, the weather was cool during our visit so AC was not needed so can’t comment on if it gets too warm.

We truly loved everything about the property, except that we were not able to adjust the A/C in the room. There was a standing fan but we are hot natured and it just wasn’t cold enough for us. However, that was very minor and with the temps in SF in April, it wasn’t a big deal. The staff were amazing and so helpful. The location was close to public transit and within walking distance to restaurants. Just right down the hill from a park near the Full House townhomes- the “painted ladies.” The Inn is quaint and the location is quiet- we always felt safe.

It was very convenient to walk to Hayes Street, or catch a bus, or walk to Alamo Square Park. I liked the blackout shades so I could block out the street lamps. I appreciated a coffeemaker in the room, and a tea kettle, hairdryer and fridge. The bed was very comfortable and I slept well.The staff was delightful. I would definitely come back.

I realize it's not possible to leave the office open if the staff does not work past 5pm, but I missed having a lounge area to sit in. If business is slow across the street at the Alamo Square Seafood Grill, they close as early as 8pm, and do not stay open till their posted time. The people next to me were a bit noisy and stayed up late...oh well. I still had a good time.

great location a block from Alamo square and the painted ladies. right on the 22 bus line. easy access to other routes. our room faced grove and had a bay view window. bathrooms were recently remodeled. Less than 20 rooms so it feels like you’re part of the neighborhood rather than a big hotel. very clean throughout. key fobs to enter main door. area felt safe and it’s on a very pretty street.

there’s no on site parking. the lot they recommend is 4 blocks away and is pricey. street parking is only 2 hours every day fyi. there’s no AC but they give you a standing fan that isn’t that strong . windows provide air flow but when windows are open, you have bus and street noise. the bathroom and shower was quite small but clean. no ice machine. the stairs to get to second floor are quite steep. front desk is only 9a-5p and if you arrive late, it can be a challenge checking in.

a gorgeous building in a premium location very close to the famous neighbourhood of Mission, Castro and Haight Ashbury, but also not far from Union Square and downtown. My room was spacious and comfortable, two big windows facing the street but still very quiet. Bed was very comfortable, the bathroom had very good quality free toiletries and a powerful shower. I loved staying at the Grove Inn with my friends (we had three bedrooms) and I highly recommend it. For my birthday I found a very sweet birthday card in my room. That was a very nice touch. I will stay again!

The location was ideal, in a quiet and safe neighborhood very close to the downtown area, easily accessible by public transit. I felt very comfortable staying with my two teenage kids here. The beds were extremely comfortable, the price much more favorable than othe hotels, with a corner store and small cafe nearby for getting fruit and breakfast items. The staff were super welcoming. The check in process was seamless. Would definitely come back here to stay!

Everything. Location is excellent! Can get to Lower Haight and Downtown - both in walking distance. Neighborhood is lovely. Painted Sisters a block (uphill) away. Have stayed here 3 times now. Rooms are clean, staff are welcoming and good at what they do, and, more than once, have gone out of their way to help me. They are responsive, efficient, and available while still respecting a quiet environment. Notable: easy check-in and check-out, comfy bed, private bathroom (important to note when booking in SF), relatively quiet SF neighborhood (I actually like the sound of the metro busses), and close to tasty food and bev (have to go to Toronado for a Pliny on tap). Really..stay here if you can.

Love this place. Only one suggestion...replace wardrobe with mini fridge and mini microwave. I would rather dress out of my luggage if I could have cold drinks and someplace to heat up leftovers (w/out having to get dressed to go downstairs).

The historic building had clean, high-quality remodeling inside. Room quality was well above the rate I paid. The value was very good compared to alternatives in the area and overall. Very nice soaps as well.

The location is not on a MUNI line, but the neighborhood was quiet. (There is a bus line right next to the Grove Inn.) I wanted to be close to/on Alamo Square with the Painted Ladies. The Grove Inn is perfectly located in a quieter neighborhood.

Great location in Hayes Valley amongst the old Victorian terraces and great bars and restaurants. Bed was comfortable and shower was adequate. Staff were nice upon arrival but very "hands off" after that point which was actually fine. Nicely restored old place.

Room was a bit stuffy upon arrival even though it was quite cool outside, but opening the window fixed that. A pretty inadequate cooling unit in the room - if it actually got warm out I wouldn't want to rely on it. Better shower pressure would have been nice but it was fine.

staff were friendly and helpful, check-in and check-out were easy. We stayed in the standard queen room, which was very comfortable and felt spacious as it had high ceilings. The room and bathroom were clean. The snacks were greatly appreciated. Location was excellent - walking distance to lots of nearby sites and activities (Hayes Valley, Valencia street, Dolores park, painted ladies). We did not notice any issue with noise, but we were not there over the weekend. Ear plugs are provided however.

I did not see an elevator, so you need to be fit enough for stairs.
