We loved staying in this authentic historical home. Our room was very comfortable but we also enjoyed having the use of the comfortable sitting room. The sitting room was the perfect place to enjoy a hot cup of tea while the morning sun lights up the room, or a relaxing place to gather in the evenings and meet the other guests. The home is within walking distance to downtown Freeport but tucked away a half block from Main street to be a quiet and serene place.

Authentic historical homes were not built with modern plumbing. The private bathroom worked very well for us. If you need a bathroom you can do cartwheels in, this is not the place for you.

Our host was amazing, going above and beyond to make sure we connected when we had poor service and difficulty using our cell phone to communicate late arrival. Once there, the room was fantastic, the beds extra comfy, and breakfast outstanding. It was great to stay in a quiet location yet be able to walk to LL Bean in a few minutes, and wonderful to have such a welcoming location and hosts at the end of a long day. Thank-you!

There was nothing to improve, it was perfect!

the property is an historical site and thus has a great B and B experience. it is located within very easy walking to downtown Freeport and especially the LL Bean stores. the owner is helpful, friendly, knowledgeable about the area and took great care to ensure our stay at her B and B together with our visit to Freeport was memorable!

Wonderful owner. Very friendly and accommodating. Excellent breakfasts. Walking distances to all shops and dining in Freeport center.

I took my Mom who is 92. We had a 2nd floor room because I wanted 2 larger beds. Next time if I take Mom will get 1st floor room. Inn is a historic building so stairs are steeper than newer builds. Connie, the owner did tell me before coming that there were stairs to our reserved room.

A full and delicious breakfast, which included French toast one day and a frittata the next. Also, fresh fruit parfait was a bonus. Coffee was perfect! Refrigerator space was available for leftovers from local restaurant meals. Loved the sitting room, which was sunny, quiet, and comfortable. Hosts were very personable and accommodating.

Connie, the owner, was very welcoming and just wonderful. She showed us around and helped us check in around 8:30pm. Breakfast was delicious.

This is a charming historic restored old farm house, a quality that makes it very appealing. If you aren’t into an older farm house vibe, you might not like it.

The location was great just steps away from everything in Freeport. Breakfast was excellent and our dietary needs were accommodated. Usually at hotels we can only eat plain whole fruit but we were offered a whole beautiful fruit salad with tea and everything. It was a real treat. The place was cozy and comfortable.

There was really nothing we didn’t like.

Historic home with original wood floors. Great host who is very personable. Very close to Interstate & LL Bean. Delicious homemade hot breakfast. Comfy & Cozy.

It’s a bit quirky in terms of decor. Shower was small so a larger person would be uncomfortable. It is clean & comfortable with retro wall paper, scattered rugs etc. We enjoyed it, but it is not a “luxury” option.

You feel very welcomed at Candlebay Inn! it’s a very special and unique place with lots of old charm, very centrally located and yet in a quiet street. The rooms are charming, very clean and beds are very comfortable. Cony is a great hostess and Stephanie, her daughter is a great cook. They serve most amazing breakfast, and you feel like you’re visiting old friends that you’re staying with. Great atmosphere and dogs are welcome too.

The home cooked breakfast was delicious and ample. It was especially enjoyable chatting with people from various parts of the country in that particular inn for various reasons. The historic inn, itself, was extremely charming and near the downtown area yet very quiet at night.

I have absolutely no negatives to report. Although brief, it was a very enjoyable stay.
