The Marx Hotel - Downtown - University Area

Breakfast was very good, but the man in charge of it was very slow, and we always had to wait for everything to be restocked. Everything would run out at once, and then there would be nothing until he was able to restock it, which took quite a while.

The restaurant was permanently closed, the hot tub was broken, and there was no ice on any floor the entire week. Every time we came in or left whoever was at the front desk rarely said anything at all. Once in a while, we got a hello, but that was it. Most of the time they completely ignored us.

The price was good for the property. It’s comparable to the quality inn where we usually stay because we bring our dog. The quality inn was actually $100 more. It’s decent. Rooms we’re clean and good size the front entry way was nice and very convenient in the middle of town.

The interior is a little dingy in the hallway a slight smell but not terrible. The pool wasn’t opened because it needed 24 hours to clean but we weren’t told that or given a discount. Someone complained but they didn’t really do anything except say sorry maybe the manager helped her out idk. Also the chef may or may not be there for a warm breakfast they didn’t know. However, they do offer free continental breakfast. My husband and I call it the maybe hotel. Lol

We didn’t stay for breakfast. The beds and room were lovely quiet great view. Staff perfect Loved shower the pool was great so great to swim so clean. Will stay again for sure. Thanks to all

Staff was extremely friendly and nice, and the location was convenient. The room itself was comfortable and it was mostly well kept by the housekeeping staff, and had limited problems with garbage piling up.

Mainly, the moldy coffee pot that was in my room. I'd suggest doing something about that. Also, the breakfasts at times were fairly limited but I made do.

The location was perfect….. downtown near many restaurants

Very difficult to find. Needs much better signage on back of hotel……. As the back of the hotel faces Main Street……… and the front door is way around the corner, down the hill…..with little to no signage of where to enter the front door parking lot. I needed to get out of my car on Main Street and stop a couple walking by….who used their I-phone map along with mine…… to figure how to drive to the front door. The area is charming, but like a rabbit warren chamber.

I honestly think the reviews are being a little too unfair given the change of ownership and renovations - we were here for Oneonta Alumni Weekend in June and the hotel was absolutely perfect. Our room was sparkling clean, the staff was very pleasant and accommodating, and you cannot beat the location.

location to oneonta where my daughter attends college. Mary was exceptional in helping my mother and I get into our room 3 hours early! my mother is on oxygen so this was very important for us to be able to get into room. Mary’s friendly and helpful personality will bring us back!

The location of the hotel - it is literally near everything -- Main Street, the University, wherever you need to go.

The hotel looks a lot older than it really is. It's a bit shabby and can use some updating. Also, the breakfast wasn't that great but it served its purpose. It was disappointing that the pub on premises hasn't reopened since the COVID shutdown. I hope they do reopen it.

Spiders in the room. Window was slightly open by someone and I had to kill about 20 spiders in my window.

I was very pleased. The room was comfortable, but could use some updating. The bed was comfy. When calling before arriving with questions, the staff was superb!! The breakfasts were just okay.
