John Yancey Oceanfront Inn

We loved our balcony with the ocean view. I enjoyed drinking my morning coffee while watching the sunrise! We even saw dolphins every morning. Our room was in the newest building and yes we paid a little more to be in one of those rooms but it was totally worth it! The staff was very friendly at the front desk and in the breakfast room, The breakfast was simple but had enough variety for everyone in my family to find something they liked! The pool is small but my kids enjoyed it everyday after the beach. the location is perfect with a direct access to the beach. Lots of restaurant options close by! We had an amazing first time in the Outer Banks and would come back to John Yancee!

The John Yancey Inn is right on the beach. We love the location. Also our room was very clean and had a great ocean view. Some of the rooms in another building didn’t even need the boardwalk to get to the beach. Those rooms had back decks that folks could just walk out onto the sand.

The Four Seasons building where we stayed was good. The hallways (carpet in) showed a good amount of wear and didn’t look clean. Very hard I would imagine to keep that carpet clean. The other little issue was that you had to walk up a short flight to even get to the elevator. The elevator was helpful upon arrival and departure but it was not as great as it would have been had it gone all the way to street level.

I loved my room because it faced the beach, had a little porch and I could sit outside and hear the surf. Just what I wanted. The bed was super comfortable!!

The building is a little old and somewhat 'shabby'. I stayed 4 days and had no housekeeping services/towels/trash pick up etc. I emptied my own trash and grabbed some clean towels from the housekeeping cart. I asked the housekeepers is I could have clean towels/trash emptied etc. and they said 'yes'. When I checked out I was told that their initial brochure had informed me that there was no housekeeping unless the guest requested this at the front deck. Oh well :(

We loved that the property was so close to the beach and even had its own beach access. Everyone at this hotel was nice and hospitable. There were so many things to do while we were there. The whole atmosphere is very family friendly, and welcoming.

The only thing I wasn’t happy with was the firmness of the beds. As a person with terrible back pain, I have to sleep on a soft mattress. Also, the door slamming was real. It happened so often, and the cleaning staff was no exception. I was in our room while they were cleaning the room next door, and after 15 slams, I just put my AirPods in.

The room was very clean, as were the towels and bed linen. I stayed in the main building where all of the rooms have been renovated. The breakfast offerings were also very nice with the waffles being a plus. The fact that the beach was only a few steps away from the hotel and not crowded was wonderful. The restrooms and outdoor shower were a welcomed addition as one could rinse off the sand and use the restroom before returning to the room. The location of the inn is central to everything. There are great restaurants across the street and a litte further down the road, so one does not have to drive on the main strip to reach an eatery.

My only concerns were the air conditioner which was loud and needed to be replaced. The room stayed cool, but it was very damp. My other concern was the little black worms that kept appearing in the shower. I sprayed them and the shower floor daily with clorox. The clorox killed them, but they kept coming back. If it were not for the little worms (Google said they were Drain Fly Larvae), I would give the room 5 stars for cleanliness. Since I was only staying 2 nights, I did not make a big deal about the worms (located in room 203). Had I stayed longer, I would have notified the establishment.

LOCATION Had a cute blue fridge with matching microwave and pots and pans. Nice towel hangers and fixtures That is the kind of thing you do to put a little CARE in a room which attracts the eye. NICE JOB on the remodeling. Very clean towels and linings I was able to log on my SLING T.V and watch all my recorded shows ( JUST LIKE HOME ) The breakfast was pretty good. HOT Waffles , hard boiled eggs, breakfast sandwiches, pastry, fruit salad but not every day, fruit. nice heavy cardboard plates to carry food back to room.

They did a very nice job remodeling our room but they stopped at the front door. They didn’t finish the painting and if the door was replaced , That would finish it off. The walls were not sound proof, Could hear next doors TV. ( NO BIG DEAL )

We thoroughly enjoyed the location...30 steps and we were on the beach ! The staff were very friendly, accommodating, and just plain NICE ! The room was clean and very large, the largest we have ever stayed in. I especially liked the counter with a sink outside the bathroom. I didn't have to get water from the bathroom to make coffee! There was plenty of room on it to make sandwiches or prepare something to put into the microwave. The WiFi was really super fast. Last but not least, the breakfasts were very good. There was lots to choose from, and I really appreciated the ladies who worked hard to keep everything clean and the food refilled.

There was only one thing that we didn't like...the bathroom door. It was one that slid open and was outside the door frame. We prefer a real door that provides more privacy.

The room was great, the bed was so comfy and everything was amazing for the price. Room cooled down very well, and we loved the smart TV and that there was even an HDMI cable. We didn't have a room with a view since we were planning on being out and about all day, but when they say it's on the beach it really is - just a minute or two walk from the room straight to the ocean. The staff was so friendly and attentive when we had any questions or issues, I did like that room service did not tend to your room unless wanted. Definitely planning to stay here again next year!

More breakfast options like scrambled eggs or another protein. Room was a little dark when we kept curtain closed for privacy.

My friends and I did a short getaway trip for the weekend. Made the reservation the night before and travel all the way to the Outerbanks from Richmond. We had an amazing time staff was so friendly, the pool was cool, rooms were comfortable, and the view amazing. We stay literally at the beach access rooms and was so worth it. I would definitely come back! We did a BBQ some Carne asada 😋. +1 to all the areas to wash off the sand.

Very small thing. I wish we had more options for the included breakfast. Still nothing that can ruined your time in this great place.

Room was very clean and seemed updated and newer. Beds very comfortable. Can't beat location. With the Ocean Front room, it was truly 'oceanfront', with a great view of the ocean, and you can walk right out into the beach. Breakfast was a good touch, with plenty of options for most to have a satisfying breakfast without pigging out.

Room was smaller than I had realized, and not a lot of room for luggage when the room is a it's max capacity of 4, but having a balcony made up for it. AC was noisy, and it cycled on and off more than we liked.
